  • Inexpensive RGB USB-C keyboard with nice typing experience
Style: black and grey
This 60% keyboard from Guiheng promises to deliver a “mechanical feeling” experience, and it somewhat does. Now, nobody is going to mistake ANY membrane keyboard for a proper mechanical keyboard, but this is a nice attempt at bridging that gap. The only thing that seems iffy for me here is that the keycaps are replaceable—but replaceable with WHAT? They’re not Cherry MX-compatible, and they aren’t compatible with any other keycap stem types with which I’m familiar. On top of that, Guiheng isn’t advertising where to buy a replacement set. That said, you’re unlikely to ever actually need new keycaps, and the price of a replacement set—regardless of stem type—would probably run more than the keyboard itself. Anyway, “replaceable” keycaps aside, this keyboard also has full RGB backlighting, and Guiheng has been good enough to include the macros for toggling each lighting mode right on the product page itself. (Seriously, most RGB keyboard makers should do this as a matter of course, yet most of them don’t. It’s baffling.) Even without those instructions, though, you’re in luck; Guiheng has printed a “sun” symbol on every key that toggles a backlight RGB setting. Just hold down the Fn key while pressing one of these “sun” keys, and something will happen. You might have to explore a bit, but you’ll never have to do it in the dark. Considering its price, this is a very strong 60% keyboard for use at home, at the office, and on the go. It’s nice and quiet, and while the key presses are a bit thick and firm, you won’t get fatigued using the device for extended periods. And yes, you can game with it, too. PROS 👍 Quiet membrane typing experience; decent tactile feel 👍 All RGB lighting effect keys clearly marked (use with Fn key) 👍 All media control keys clearly marked (use with Fn key) 👍 Everything works right out of the box 👍 60% layout is compact with tiny footprint 👍 Full RGB lighting with dedicated on/off lighting key 👍 Attractive set with good hardware color combinations 👍 Detachable keys (requires keycap puller tool; not included) 👍 Decent quality plastics for the price point 👍 Very good value for a wired RGB keyboard 👍 Excellent item listing includes RGB control macros (screenshot these!) CONS 👎 No height/angle adjustment 👎 No wireless connectivity 👎 Fn+V and Fn+> appear to do the same thing 👎 No shine-through key caps 👎 Detachable keys not compatible with most keycap stem types 👎 Delete key not in my favorite spot ... show more

  • Pretty good for an entry level mechanical keyboard
Style: black
If their goal was to make a budget friendly entry level mechanical unit, they have succeeded. This thing comes in simple packaging with just the keyboard, a usb a-c cable and spec sheet/qc card, no extras or gimmicks, so do not expect a full mechanical keyboard starter pack out of this one. The base is also fairly light, has no retractable "feet" for height adjustment and makes a hollow plasticky sound when the keys bottom out, making it obvious that this is a budget unit. The font on the keycaps is also a bit... budget looking, but not to the point of causing issues. That said, what you DO get is a no-fluff budget optimized unit with decent red switches and some basic rgb that just works and is a good entry point to dip your toes into mechanical keyboards without breaking the bank. I am using this thing as my backup keyboard to plug into the laptop when I am at home and am honestly enjoying typing on it about as much as a more expensive unit I have connected to my desktop. If you want a mechanical keyboard that does the job on a budget with no extras, this unit is for you, but if you want a more premium experience, you will need to look at something higher up in the pricerange. ... show more

  • Smaller than expected
Style: black and grey
I bought this for a gaming rig I was building, and thought a matching RGB keyboard would be nice. As you can see in the picture, it is compact. For space constrained desks, this can be a good thing, but if you're accustomed to certain keys being in certain locations, this may be problematic. I also find I'm having to hunt the FN key to access the "alternate" keys frequently, such as Function and multimedia keys. The other problem I had with this keyboard is it did not seem to work with my USB-C cable. While it has a USB-C port on the keyboard itself, it seems to only want to work with the included USB-A to USB-C cable. I had a USB-A extension cable that I used in lieu of my longer C-2-C cable. Its good, has great asthetic, is the right brightness, seems durable (I've dropped it once), so I'm happy with the purchase, but next time, I think I'll just make more space on the desk and get a regular size keyboard. ... show more

  • Budget Keyboard That Looks Great but Feels Underwhelming
This keyboard looks pretty cool, especially with the color combo I chose, but it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of feel. The “mechanical” switches are closer to membrane in feel, and the whole board has a flimsy build. That said, it’s lightweight and could be ideal as a child’s first keyboard or for someone who wants to dip their toes into the compact keyboard world without investing heavily. Just temper expectations on the performance and build. ... show more
