I love the paints and the colors. These are the best paints I've ever had so far. I didn't use watercolor for over 3 years and this is the first painting I did after the break. The packaging left me a bit disappointed though. It's very difficult to open it and the paints fall out easily. I hope that will be improved one day. The people who are complaining about it actually having 40 colors instead of 45, it is actually mentioned in the description so I have no idea why you're complaining. ... show more

This is my first professional grade paint. The colors are vivid. The paints themselves can be removed and replaced as wanted or needed. The pallet is much smaller than I expected but I am still happy with my new toy.

Paints are fine but I just find that after trying them I like the tubes better. I hate the case these come in. Hard to open and when I put the force needed to open it, pans flew everywhere. For the price I think they can do better than that.

Been using the W&N Cotman pocket sketcher set, along with a couple of less expensive sets that have more colors. After deciding I like Cotman, I ordered this set, mainly for the whole pans, which hold more paint and cause less wear and tear on brushes. First, the harder you try to open the case, the more difficult it becomes. Pressing in on the bottom edge a bit helps a lot. Unwrapping the individual cakes was like opening little presents. Each pan is marked for future reference and a drop of water in the bottom helps hold each cake in place. There is some wiggle room in each row of pans but with the cover and lid closed they aren't going anywhere. Both the cover and the lid come off (the lid must be opened to an angle), making it easy to arrange your workspace. The lid has three mixing areas, big enough to mix up large batches of wash, and the cover has eight smaller sections. Some people have mentioned the lack of greens in this set but with 4 yellows (including ochre) and 4 blues, in addition to viridian and sap green, dozens of greens are possible. With a little mixing, this set provides hundreds of colors and shades. Whole pans of individual Cotman paints are hard to come by but these will last a long time. When they run out or I want other colors it is easy enough to fill empty pans from a tube. This is a versatile set with a lot of quality paint for the money. Highly recommended. ... show more
