  • Oil painters:
Size: 35.8 oz
This is an excellent “every now and then” item. It will clean and restore your brushes, even those with dried on oil / acrylic paints. DO NOT let it touch the ferrel. This stuff is so powerful it will literally melt the glue inside the ferrel. Let a brush with dried oil paint soak for 15-20, it cleans right out. Let acrylic soak for 30 mins. I don’t think I’d use it everyday because of the potential damage to the ferrel and the handles. But it can absolutely save a brush from the trash can!! ... show more

  • Removed paint stains on a jacket.
Size: 4.2 oz.
I used the product to remove eight (8) year old paint stains I had on a jacket. I attempted to remove the stains with many other products , but none of them work . I purchased the Winsor Newton brush cleaner and I was able to remove the paint stains. It’s expensive, but it works.

  • Works exactly as advertised!
Size: 4.2 oz.
I had three W&N brushes with dried on acrylic. I'd tried everything for months to get them back to a usable state. I soaked them in this brush cleaner for 24 hours. It worked like magic, brushes are usable again. Definitely recommend!

  • Removes Acrylic Paint and Sealant from Resin Dolls, Cleans Airbrushes; Melts My Gloves!
Size: 35.8 oz
This is not a free product review. I do recommend this product for removing paint and solvent based sealants from resin. I've been using Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer for several years. I like to buy this in the large 32 oz. bottle, which is a great value. This does a great job cleaning brushes, but I primarily use it to remove previous paint (faceups) jobs from my Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls (BJDs) which I paint and seal myself. I use Mr. Super Clear matte/flat to seal the resin followed by acrylic paint, watercolor pencils and chalk pastels, then seal over each layer of my work. Sometimes, I want to re-paint my dolls. Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer removes the sealant and all of my other products from the doll without doing any damage to the resin material. Nothing else works as well. Sometimes I also use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for stubborn spots aided by a tooth brush for small creases. Usually a cosmetic cotton pad works well. The left over residue washes away easily with water and scent-free and dye free dish soap. After this treatment, my dolls are left as clean as if they were just removed from the mold by their artist/maker. I also love Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer to clean my airbrush parts when I break them down for internal cleaning. Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer can be re-used, as I save my used product at times in a small glass jar. The used product works well for especially messy jobs as it sometimes takes a few washes with the product to remove the old paint. I have only one issue with Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. It melts my gloves, leaving a bigger mess than what I had in the first place. I work in the medical field and frequently wash my hands. My hands are a little rough, even during the best of times. The chemical components of Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer (likely ethanol) dry out my hands even further to the point of serious discomfort. Every glove type I have available at home including nitrile and latex melt when they come into contact with Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. I have reached out to the manufacturing company and asked a question on this listing for a glove material suggestion to wear, and have never had a response. This leaves me with the choice of doing further damage to my hands each time I use the product, or avoiding one of my favorite hobby-related activities. Neither choice makes me very happy. I would like very much to have a suggestion for a chemically compatible glove material to use in the future. Thanks for reading my review. I hope this has been helpful to you in some way, and you will kindly click the button below. ... show more

  • Remove paint from leather products and clothes!
Size: 16 oz.
I have a leather motorcycle jacket that I thrifted and has acrylic paint stains from the previous owner. The jacket was worth purchasing and I knew there had to be a way to get the paint out when I ran across a YouTube video about using this! It worked like a charm! I used a sponge (an artist sponge - NOT a kitchen sponge) and dabbed lightly at the stains until they were gone. I did let it soak for a few minutes after applying it and then rinsed the area with another sponge damp with water. The leather needed to be restained (of course) but it looks like new! ... show more

  • Worked wonders
Size: 16 oz.
After trying a few different dissolvers on my dried acrylic paint brushes with ZERO luck, I knew I had to dry something a little pricier. BUT this product WORKS. My brushes had dried acrylic paint in them for weeks and they restored almost like new. There will be some staining of the bristles and a little remained at the very base of the brushes, but overall they’re like new. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Do not soak, very powerful solvent
Size: 4.2 oz.
This works wonderfully, but please do not leave your brushes (especially synthetic) in the solution for longer than a minute, tops. Take a small amount, about two fingers, in a glass jar and swizzle the dried brush into it. Dunk it in water every 30 seconds to a minute to see the progress. For a fully harded paintbrush it will take a max of a few minutes of this. If you're not aware, acrylic paint is a kind of plastic and so are synthetic bristles. This will dissolve the acrylic paint but if you let it sit it will eventually work on the bristles too. It isn't quite as strong to have that take less than 20-40 minutes, so you'll have plenty of working time. People who've ruined their brushes have probably soaked too long and underestimated the power of the solvent. This works amazingly if you're rational and cautious about it and remain aware of the strength of the solvent. I had a brush frozen solid with paint and it is like new again. 100% recommend. Fumes are fairly minimal but remember your high school lab safety and don't shove your nose in the glass or anything, it does have a bit of a smell. Might be worth noting it is also hydrophobic so when you rinse you will need to rinse well. A gentle soap wouldn't hurt if you're really worried but running water was enough for my brushes. ... show more
