  • Great info. A bit$$$
Format: Paperback
Nice guide for the areas-not as detailed as specific city’s, but local input is invaluable. Easy and quick.

  • Good for looks, definitely not a guide book for adventurers
Format: Paperback
Having traveled through much of the southwest, I found this book lacking in actual locations I would recommend a person to go. If you're immensely boring and very wealthy, you should get this book and take a few trips it highlights. Four stars because the book itself is pretty and the design is impeccable. ... show more

  • Fun & charming
Format: Paperback
His is a charming little book, with fun factoids about the unique cities, sights, and people of NM, CO, AZ, UT, TX and a bit of CA. It's not exactly a travel planner, tho there's a bit of that - I have added a few sites to my bucket list!

  • Rather than a laudry list of things to do, actual stories
Format: Paperback
The Desert Southwest is my favorite area in the US. I have many emotional experiences there from childhood to adulthood, so it takes a special book about this special place to impress me. This field guide is the best modern-day field guide I've read, and it captures the essence of the Southwest through narratives and essays, not laundry lists. I love this book. ... show more

  • Not what I'd expect
Format: Paperback
I was expecting a book that explored roads, towns, eating and lodging, and sightseeing and recreational resources; kind of a "local's" how-to-get-around-and-what-to-do-while-you're-there kind of resource. It turns out it has more historical information and anecdotes, including book and newspaper excerpts than I would expect in a "field guide." Although the information is interesting, I doubt I will look to the rest of the series for information about other cities and parks. This guide does provide background information about the area, if that is what someone is looking for. Also, as a used book, it is in very good condition, and the only marking I've seen inside is an inscription from the original buyer to an apparent gift recipient - which may be an appropriate use of the publication. ... show more

  • Good info to know
Format: Paperback
This is a nice travel guide. It's helpful with making a route, hospitality services, nature, and more. It's not too much where it's kind of a pain to read through. Informative and to the point, with some fun knowledge intertwined.
