This is a replacement of the identical kayak I sold when I moved back to the USA. I lived on the beach in Mexico near the mouth of an estuary and had access to endless miles of mangroves, estuary, and open ocean. I had used the Tarpon there for about seven or eight years and was extremely happy with it - so much so that I didn't even think of switching when it was time to get another. It is a relatively fast kayak that handles well for its length in tighter quarters, and is still pretty stable in open water and surf. The design made it handy for not only relaxing day trips, but for overnighters as well. I am 6'1" and 240 lbs, and my wife is 5'4" and 120 lbs and we both had the same boats and felt the same way about them.

I ordered 2 of these, nice boats but they came unwrapped so they were dirty and scratched a little. Not so bad that I refused delivery but bad enough that it looked a little used. Maybe a little disappointed. There was a broken bungee hook but I had another so I just replaced it. There are also missing items on one of the boats. The Dritec dry box and the Magnatec water bottle strap was missing. I called Amazon CS and had a hard time understanding the agent. I think someone is supposed to get back with me to help me get the missing pieces and if they do Maybe I'll revise this review. I still like amazon and I'm usually fully satisfied so the 1 star is for the poor packaging for shipping. Update: the manufacturer is sending the missing parts as a warranty claim. So I increased the review to 3 stars. I'm thinking of contacting Amazon to see if they'd give me a little credit for my used looking new kayaks. This my final edit. I just want to report that all my issues have been resolved. The manufacturer sent me the missing parts on a warranty claim and Amazon made a little adjustment to compensate me for the shipping damage. Honestly the shipping damage amounted to about 1 year of wear and tear from use, not enough to refuse delivery but enough to make my new kayaks look used. Anyway, these are very nice boats and I happy with our choice.

I love this Kayak, I’ve used them for years and this is the first I’ve owned. The only issue I have is that it’s missing the waterproof box, Magnetic Drink Holder, and Scupper plugs. Other than that it’s in great shape and fun as hell!

This has been this worst product I have gotten from Amazon! I'm not blaming Wilderness Systems. I have one of their kayaks and absolutely love it!! I ordered this kayak on 7/17 and it was to be delivered on 8/6. Kayak wasn't even shipped until 8/5!!!!! I had no notice of delay from Amazon. Come to find out that it wasn't shipped until 8/5 because they had to wait for another kayak to be restocked. Funny cuz when I ordered it, it was in stock!!!!! To make sure I had product in time for our vacation, I called shipping company to arrange a pickup. When kayak was used for very first time, it took on water making it completely unstable. Capsized and put my husband into the lake. His phone was in the dry tek lock box, that opened and his phone now sits at the bottom of the lake! Found a three to four inch slash on the hull of kayak. Also came to find the lock box was missing the closing clasp! Kayak could have been damaged in shipping. But I fully believe that it was bought before, damaged and returned to Amazon who then sold it to me. Should never have been sold!!!!!!! It should have never been cuz it was missing a part that would have kept my husbands phone in the lock box. Will never purchase big items from Amazon again!!!!!! Have no faith in this company with bigger items! They needed a kayak to ship to me and shipped a defective item! Plus first customer service person hung up on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very stable kayak for a sit-on-top. This is a great choice for those looking for a day of paddling with others and has plenty of storage for hitting the water to do some fishing. Some might think the seat is a little low for fishing and not having the option to sit higher would be a big negative, or even not having a really stable option for standing in the kayak itself. However, when I've had a higher seat on another kayak and the ability to stand... I simply just didn't do it very much at all. I also find it much easier to net a fish, place the handle of the net under my knee and then unhook the fish, it just felt more natural to do that. With larger dedicated fishing kayaks, I also found myself not being able to keep up with my wife in her Pungo 120, so moving to the Tarpon 120 was really nice. It let us get out and paddle together and keep up with one another without a problem. I also found the Tarpon to be slick out on the river and cut through water nicely, so paddling didn't take much effort to get the kayak moving nicely. I really like the firm handles in the front/back and each side, compared to the previous model which had rubber grips with nylon attaching them. The seat is very comfortable! It's one of the most under rated things when it comes to purchasing a kayak it seems. The seats for Wilderness are great and you can paddle for hours and hours and get the support needed without having a sore bottom or back afterwards. Having the option to pull the straps on each side in tight, and pull the handle upwards in the front area to bring the seat down to support your lower back firmly as well as it pulling the front of the seat up to support you knees... it's just a very well thought out seat for a sit on top that really gives the support in the right places. It's nice to have some dry storage in the front and plenty of room in the back for a milk crate, cooler or whatever you'd like to bring on your journey. Overall I would say this is a great kayak that covers a lot of bases. It lets you get out and fish comfortably and also just have a day of paddling as it cuts through the water nicely. I would highly recommend this kayak to anyone!

As a bigger guy..280 pounds I was worried how this would sit in the water. Not only did I have no problems getting into the Kayak but I was faster than my 120 pound wife. I felt like I was cutting through the water like a warm knife through butter. I did buy scupper plugs for the back well of the boat and now my gear stays dry. Also, because I am tall, 6 foot 2 and I saw nothing about leg length on any reviews I will add this; At 6 foot you are completely legs straight. So it's a slight bend for us taller guys but the Kayak is stable enough that you can hang a leg over the edge if you need to.

Tracking is great. It took several tries to figure out what seat position worked for my bad back. I ended up needing to add the lumbar yak pad. As lumbar support was not great for me. I kayak year round and have been for years. My last kayak finally wore out. I got this one for the seat. It’s pretty good. Like I said tracking is really good but I feel like the boat is slow in the water but from that I’ve learned to maybe slow down and enjoy the water more than a big workout. Guess it’s good I also go to the gym then. The bummer is the scratches as others have mentioned when delivered. It’s just wrapped in a little clear plastic like siran wrap almost. Also I was missing parts. I finally got the missing parts now after several attempts, playing some game to prove I bought the kayak. Amazon just told me I had to go direct to manufacturer and even that was a bit of a challenge to find the right place/person and even form to fill out. I’ve also noticed that in just one months time, the seat fabric is fading and even more so the trim edging in two months has gone from orange to now yellow. If I put the back down the part that is covered is darker than the exposed area. I live in Seattle so not like we have massive sun. So if you care about that, cover your seat.
