I’ve enjoyed El Volcan since it was part of the Allegro Coffee lineup. That line became a house brand and the price was raised and never goes on sale. I still keep watch for a sale price. Otherwise, there are plenty of bulk coffee vendors that offer a more reasonable price.

It took a while to go through this because we preferred our other local coffee more.. but this wasn't bad or unpleasant. The flavor was mostly mild, so it didn't really come through as a strong espresso flavor when we pulled a shot of espresso with this, which is our normal means of using coffee beans.. This coffee has a really smooth, mild flavor that’s perfect for those who enjoy a lighter roast. It’s not too strong or bitter, and it makes a nice, clean cup whether you brew it in a drip machine or a pour-over. I like that it's whole bean so I can grind it fresh each time. I am a coffee connoisseur and this is delicious. You can taste the hints of honey, orange and brown sugar. It's a great tasting coffee to drink black. It has good enough flavor on its own.

Good! Not a new favorite or anything but has some depth of flavor at least! It does have a flavor/aroma that's sliiiightly on the baby diaper side (imo, my partner never smells it but I do in some coffees) which I don't love but that's just me- it seems to be a unique depth of flavor thing (that light roast normally has, slightly acidic berry etc) at least so I appreciate that Beyond that, it tasted pretty standard/basic to me. My main complaint is that for light roast, I found it tasted more medium-dark roast so that's slightly disappointing. Like a bit bitter + burnt. ... show more

This coffee is amazing! I used it in our automatic espresso machine and it has been a super delicious way to start the day. The beans ground up perfectly and were super fresh on arrival. I like the coffee, the brown sugar is nice and the orange isn't too much. We have a new place in Florida and were expecting guests so I thought something with orange would be nice.     • Slight sour aftertaste

Based on taste alone (finely and freshly ground in my coffee grinder and used in my espresso machine), it’s not my cup of…coffee. While “mandarin orange and honey” sounded delightful on the packaging, I did pick up notes of it, but I couldn’t really get around the overall sourness of the El Volcan whole beans. I think had Whole Foods roasted the same beans a little longer, it would’ve tamped the sourness. Also, the bag arrived with a very short expiration date that expires only three months out. While whole coffee beans will keep for a long while, especially if unopened, it also tells me it’s also not the freshest beans. And, I find it a little overpriced for what it isn’t — it isn’t organic and not single origin, or at least it makes no mention of it anywhere on the bag. ... show more
