A tip to preserve lug nut finish -- glossy black coating

After recently installing my second set of these (first set were on for 10 years and the coating held up well considering the number of removal and installations both by hand and impact wrench) I decided to try a method I came across on the internet. It's the use of a plastic sandwich bag inside of the socket. Torqueing by hand to 90 ft-lbs I found that a 1 qt freezer bag worked well. The plastic was thick enough to allow multiple nuts to be tightened before wearing through. The regular sandwich size zip-loc plastic was thinner and didn't hold up as well. I used a 19mm deep chrome socket and it was a snug fit which was nice. I just today checked torque/re-torqued the new nuts after 150 miles and couldn't see any marks on the black coating. They rusted almost immediately but, they cover the stud threads perfectly keeping the stud threads covered keeping the threads clean.

I bought Deez nuts for my car because somebody messed up my other nuts and I just couldn’t have that. These are good nuts. Probably some of the best nuts you could ever buy for your car. Buy these nuts you won’t be disappointed. They’re strong nuts with a nice shine to them. I know they are cheap nuts, but it doesn’t mean that they’re bad nuts. They’re quite good nuts for the price you pay. If I had to buy some nuts again, I would buy these nuts.
