  • Far Exceeds ALL Expectations. Comparable to Scopes 2-4x the Price
Color: WHI 4-16X50 SFIR FFP Style: Option 6- Only Optics & Basic Access...
BOTTOM LINE: Buy this scope. It's a rare instance where a company is able to provide a scope that will far exceed your expectations, at a price you'll believe is impossible. High quality glass, amazing features, excellent build, perfect for hunting, shooting, or competition. I'd buy several more if I had the cash ;) And no, I didn't receive any sort of compensation. This was a completely unsolicited review. TLDR: This is what I love to see! Westhunter is a serious optics company utilizing the same manufacturers in Wuhan as many, many other more recognizable names. Anyone who has used big name companies these days--assuming you've looked across brands and not been locked into the "I'll only ever use _____because of_____" mindset--has probably recognized some striking visual similarities between brands. It's almost as if they all use the same OEM that offers the same basic model designs. Oh wait. That's EXACTLY what they do! That's why, if you aren't too proud to look, you soon find that lots of terrible $150 scopes look very similar to those $900 scopes...at least on the outside. These OEM manufacturers offer a number of lines of scope chasses and various options; a spectrum of glass quality; and a number of coatings packages, with both coating quality, and numbers of surfaces coated. I suspect they also allow companies to bring in their own proprietary coating formulations. There are also variations in chassis design allowed so long as it doesn't require significant retooling. We are all familiar with Vortex, Athlon, Nikon (RIP to the scope line), Bushnell, etc. But few people Stateside have heard of Westhunter. Westhunter uses the same OEM manufacturers, but has far fewer offerings than the better known players. They do mainly higher power variable power scopes and low power variable power optics preferred by many competition shooters. Westhunter is a completely Chinese brand. It's not a joint venture, or a foreign company manufacturing in China for export to the US. In fact, Westhunter has focused on domestic sales (yes, China has a large civilian shooting community), regional sales, and sales in Europe. I'm not sure on all the details of the competitive shooting community in China--who can participate, can civilians own air rifles (they cannot open regular firearms) etc. What I DO know, is that buying a high quality US or Japanese rifle scope in China is prohibitively expensive. Japanese or US scopes in China (or Europe or Oceania) run 2-3x or more what they cost here. Aside from shipping costs (from China to the US, and then back to China), the governments on both sides slap tariffs (and probably VATs). That lousy consumer situation created pressure to build a high-end scope company in China. Enter Westhunter. It can take full advantage of it's proximity to the OEM manufacturers (and knowledge of customs, laws, culture, and language) to negotiate the best price on the best materials, oversee every step of production to ensure QC, and avoid all national VATs and tariffs. Because it is a wholly domestically owned company now attempting to compete in foreign markets, I also suspect the Chinese government helps out with favorable tax rates and other direct or indirect subsidies, all of which allow Westhunter to bring high end glass to market far cheaper than other companies (even if there is no government assistance). Westhunter built it's business first to service mainly the high power air rifle competition community, which means, many of their scopes are actually far more recoil resistant than those of many major brands. People competing in those sports also demand good glass (they are shooting REALLY SMALL targets). For Westhunter to compete, they need quality optics and a quality build at a decent price. This is not Monstrum or any other cheap scope company jumping on the tacticool bandwagon to make a few bucks selling to unsuspecting newcomers. Westhunter is NOT a newcomer to the optics market at all. They have been at this for a while now, providing high-quality scopes, primarily to Chinese, Oceanian, and European shooters. All of its experience translates easily to the hunting and tactical markets. I tell you all this to drive home this point: WESTHUNTER CAN AND DOES DELIVER EXCEPTIONAL OPTICS AT AMAZING PRICES! SCOPE SPECIFICS: GLASS QUALITY. This scope has glass that is easily comparable to Vortex Diamondback HP and Tactical scopes; it's much superior to the glass in my regular Diamondback. Already, at $150-165 it's a great deal. But it's also 4-16 power--probably one of the most versatile power ranges, assuming the glass is good and the image remains clear at all levels. Check. ZERO LOCK.This also has a zero reset and zero lock. Again, not something normally on scopes in the price range unless the scope is junk.... Which this is not. TURRETS. The turrets are also excellent for this class (think Athlon Ares; Vortex Viper HST). The clicks are both audible and tactile, not overly mushy. If anything, they might be a bit too easy to turn. Thankfully, you can lock them down so they don't turn at all. I haven't actually shot the box yet, but I've done a rough approximation and it seems to come back to zero. I don't use the turrets much, to be honest--i usually don't shoot much past 300 yards (no where to go). When I get around to mounting this, I'll see if I can test this out better. RETICLE. Love it! It has a great reticle that is.... Wait for it.... ETCHED! No wires to break. Very useful for estimating range, and best of all it's FFP!!!!!!! ILLUMINATION. If I could fault one thing, this would be it. The illumination is only on the small cross hair. To be fair, that's going to be the most important part to illuminate during an early morning hunt--shots will probably only be inside 100 yards--but something to keep in mind. The illumination itself is perfectly fine; no side bleeding or halo. ACCESSORIES. I didn't buy this for the accessories, but they are great to have nonetheless. The strip down model has a sun shade (THANK YOU!) and a throw lever! It would be nice if the throw lever folded, but that's being greedy. Also came with flip caps. Nice gesture, but not sure how tough they are. I'll use until I find out ;) BUILD. Overall a solid scope. It's lighter than most that I own in this mag range. Time will tell if that's good or bad. As is, color me IMPRESSED!!! OVERALL. This is not one of those terrible companies that sells junk for a couple hundred dollars. It is a legitimate company that sells a truly decent product comparable to scopes several times it's price. Anyone who's been shooting a while has succumbed to the temptation to try an inexpensive scope, only to immediately be filled with buyers remorse. This is one of those rare instances where I immediately wished I'd bought a couple more ;) It's no $2k scope. It is, however, easily in the Athlon Argos, Diamondback Tactical or others. It's actually fairly close to my Athlon Ares/Midas--maybe between those levels of such a thing existed ;) Happy shooting! ... show more

  • Just buy it!
Color: WHI 4-16X50 SFIR FFP Style: Option 6- Only Optics & Basic Access...
This is a true bargain for the features, workmanship and price. Yeah it's Chinese, but so are most optics like this in this price range. The difference is that this scope stands out as a serious competitor for scopes costing 3 or 4 times as much. Off the bench on one of my target rifles, it performed as well as my much more expensive optics. I don't think you will be disappointed! ... show more

  • If you get a good one, it's a bargain.
I've ordered 8 so far, 2 had issues, 1 is as clear and sharp as my Athlon Argos scopes.

  • It functions on a Savage 111 Long Range Hunter 300 Win Mag
Color: WHI 4-16X50 SFIR FFP Style: Option 3- Picatinny Shooting Kit C
With features found on scopes four times it's cost this scope surprisingly functioned, and holds zero at 100 yards on a 300 Win Mag. The only negative is the lack of a graduated scale to determine the revolutions to zero. Let's see how long it lasts...
