  • Very Excited to have WD Red SSD's available
Capacity: 4TB Style: SSD
I've purchased a number of WD Red SATA drives 4/TB and was happy with them, so I decided to take the plunge on the WD Red NVME 4/TB drives, too. Not the most expensive option, but it offers the highest TBW rating of any 4TB drives but a huge margin. I have these running in my QNAP NAS U.2 slots for higher throughput I/O for an ESXi Home Lab offering up iSCSI LUNS and CIFS volumes. Having lost a number of hard drives over the years to the dreaded 3year death grip I'm always looking to purchase higher quality HDD's (WD Black) and higher quality SSD's (WD Red). Thank you Western Digital for offering the higher quality products. ... show more

  • Purchased for Synology 920+ Works well.
Capacity: 500GB Style: SSD
I purchased 2 of the 500GB for my Synology 920+ running DSM7 Easy tool-less installation. Decided to use only ONE of them in READ mode for my Calibre and Plex libraries as well as Docker images. Noticeably faster load up of art work which is important for the Media room experience. Movies will not see any speed boost - as why would they? But the artwork loading is quick and very noticeable once cached. Synology WILL complain when you set up the Cache as there are no WD products in the Synology "compatibility" chart. Don't now if this is due to a failed business agreement or whatever, however it will work. I have 15TB of storage, and the Single 500GB NVMe SSD is more than enough. I will likely move the other one to another NAS, or into my computer. i likely could have gotten away with a 256GB NVMe SSD but room to grow is always good. Please note that the Synology Read/Write cache mirror set up has caused some people grief in the past, so please do your own research on this before doing it. Personally I don't feel the need. ... show more

  • Perfect Drive
Capacity: 4TB Style: SSD
This drive is really great. I haven't tried to benchmark the speeds, because I'm just using it in a USB enclosure; so I will never be able to see those speeds anyway. Professionally, I use a lot of virtual machines to perform my work; this drive has a ton of space which is perfect for what I'm doing and is large enough to hold all of my documents, manuals, and basically everything else I could ever need for work. Being inside a little USB enclosure, it fits into my bag easily. I expect it to be a strong performer for years to come. ... show more

  • Doing Great
Capacity: 500GB Style: SSD
Bought 2 of these for a Synology DS1522+ which work only as caching memory (R/W). They have improved response for 2 virtual machines and file retrieval.

  • Used for Time Machine, WD has been reliable, runs on the hot side so buy a decent enclosure
Capacity: 1TB Style: SSD
WD has been reliable. The SSD Red meets my needs and so far so good. Use it for Time machine backups so it is used with some frequency. It runs on the warm side so plan accordingly regarding your enclosure, thermal pads, etc.

  • Fast and hopefully durable
Capacity: 500GB Style: SSD
My previous NVMe drive died quickly and just outside of warranty. I found that I really tore through it as I do a lot of 4k video and photo editing. I was less worried about speed and more worried about getting something that could hold up longer. These Red SSDs have a significantly more TBW rated than most of the others in their class. You can get something much faster and bigger for the same price as one of these... but if you need the durability, look no further. I cannot speak to the durability as it's still very new... but I can say that the speeds look to be as advertised through my limited testing and so far, has not let me down. ... show more
