Color: Blue
I bought this toy to give to my nephew for his birthday. The age says 8 to 12, but he is 13 and has had endless hours of fun with it. There are a ton of different ways to build it, and even more ways to play with it. This toy is perfect for any child enjoys science and technology. Buy it!

  • Great toy + leaning tool
Color: Blue
Very useful teaching / leaning tool for younger kids. The solar toy can be configured in many ways and fosters curiosity in kids. I love that it does not need batteries and fairly rugged for what it does.

  • A serious kit - lots of work and lots of fun!!

The media could not be loaded. First off, this is not for the lazy or faint of heart! It was a lot like building with Legos, but you really have to take your time and get everything just so. There are a number of smallish gears that need to be properly lined up, and little pegs that need to pushed in all the way, and in the right order. The instructions were a kind of road map, just pictures with very few words, and I found myself staring at that in bewilderment a few times. Sometimes the item number in the instructions was not right (F1 for example...) or the picture just didn't make it very obvious, what we were supposed to do. Anyway, that's all part of the fun to me, and you really have to think through what you are trying to accomplish. I built it with my 9-year old. I don't think he could have completed it on his own. Some of the pieces are just too hard to push in, and the mechanisms a bit complex for him. One small example of something hard for him to figure out is how to assemble the robot head. You have to hook the white part under the black part, and then snap it down and into place. That's not clear at all in the instructions, but pretty obvious is you take time to look at the pieces and think about how they must go. See photo. They included labels and little bags to sort the parts into to make it easier to keep track of them. It works pretty well, but it's a little hard to get some of the parts out when needed, and a small parts organizer would be a nice upgrade (not realistic in a kit at this price-point, however). It can also be hard to get the labels off, if you make the mistake I did and cut them out before peeling them off the paper. There is a lot of thought that went into designing this kit. You start out by organizing the parts into bags, and then build modules that will be used to construct the various robots that can be built. I included a photo of the head and body modules (the body has all the gears), and a short video of one of the robots. It in unfortunate that there is no remote control with this kit. There isn't even an on-off switch (though we plan to add one). Once you connect the wires, off it goes! Even so, my son gives this a glowing 5-stars. He's very impressed with the design, and enjoying tinkering with it, to make sure every little piece is where it belongs, and troubleshoot when it stops moving (usually because something got misaligned or the power wire came lose). All in all, very fun... but not for the faint of heart! ... show more

  • If not for the competition, this would be 5 stars..and MAYBE STILL IS, if also competitively priced!
Color: White
Wow what an adventure. This is a wonderfully-invited step up from the NUMEROUS lego sets my son has immersed himself in over the years. It's almost like he was "built" for this. ;) I CANNOT dock, nor reduce, my recommendation from this amazing toy due to its inherent HIGH POINTS of being intricate, involved, commanding-immersion, robust, and challenging. YES< most youthful arrivers may very well lose interest after a good--FUN--while. Maybe that's STILL worth it and very successful. Everyone has their breakoff point, but just because most won't take sports to the professional level, it doesn't deter us for liking, embracing, even loving them with ape-crazy cheering alongside for as long as the ride lasts, right?! My son has not finished all the builds either. Maybe he never will. But it perfectly challenges his mind and finer motor skills. He's forced to problem solve, if partaking. He learns patience and reward...as well as processing of difficulty and even frustration. ALL of this stuff makes this "toy" a 5 star recommendation in my mind, but there ARE many similar ones on the market that currently are jumping all over the place in pricing incentives, discounts and the like. I expect this item to likely do the same during these holiday sales blitzes, so I'd recommend jumping into this when the price fits right for you. Another well-done STEM 'toy', worthy of strong consideration ... show more
