Not cast "iron" tables, but a great and affordable 6in benchtop jointer

At the time of my purchase, the description vaguely states "cast iron, metal". There may be some cast iron inside somewhere, but it is not the top tables of the jointer, which is appears to be cast and machined aluminum. That aside, the jointer was easy to set up, 99.9% spot on for cutting head to outfeed table, and nearly spot on table to fence. Only needed to do very minor adjustment to the fence to square it to the cutting head and outfeed table. Ran some pine through it to check things out, then jumped into squaring and surfacing some mahogany. Oak followed, as did a little maple. All nicely processed. I'm really surprised by the cut quality of the 12 staggered cutters. Keep in mind this is not a heavy duty floor stand jointer, it is a light-duty bench-top variant. Works perfect for the 3-4 foot long boards I typically need to surface. Fits nicely on a shelf or under the bench when not in use. Hook up a good dust/chip collector, as it will spray wood chips all over the place otherwise. I did notice another review where they stated the push-pads were defective. Their "defective" pad appears to have made contact with the cutter. My pads are well made, no faulty adhesive, work really well. Also, some reviews comment about the aluminum table being damaged, or scarred after just a few passes of material. While the table will mark up, it doesn't impact the flatness nor ability of the jointer to do its job. Yes, a true cast iron table set would be an improvement, but the price would likely increase proportionality. The tables on my jointer show "use", but nothing that can be felt with a fingernail, the marks seem to be more burnishing of the deck lathing than actual damage to the surface. Glad I made the investment.

I run a sawmill and wood shop and generally make paneling and lumber for sale. I had a large jointer that I never used so I sold it in the fall. Of course you should never sell something like that because I just started making trim and needed a jointer. The WEN was a quick shipping option at a decent price with the helical cutter head. Its a no brainer if you can get a helical head. They are so much easier to work with, sharpen or replace. And no adjusting for depth. This cuts smooth and clean like passing through butter on my pine trim. I am making absolutely perfect, matching trim pieces. They are all turning out to the exact same width after running through this machine. I machine one edge on the jointer and then run it through the table saw to cut to size. Then run it 2x more through the jointer on the freshly cut side. Perfect every time. It is relatively quiet although I wear hearing protection. It works better with planed lumber though. Rough sawn lumber catches on the rear fence and makes running boards through a bit tougher. For my needs, running pine trim boards through, even 8ft long, it is turning out great. I use infeed and outfeed rollers and have had no problems. I figured this may be a temporary tool in my wood shop. But now I will be using this as long as it continues to work.

Great entry level jointer.

A spiral head cutter for under $300?!?! I figured it was worth the risk to check it out and I am very satisfied. While the infeed and outfeed tables are only aluminum, they do not flex under usage. The cutter head leaves very clean surfaces on maple and purpleheart (both are prone to tear-out, but the jointer did a great job). As per instructions, I would recommend only taking 1/32" passes at a time. The motor does not hesitate at that depth nor did it hesitate on a 1/16" test pass, but I would not cut that deep in actual use. The tables were also almost perfectly level, requiring only raising the back, far corner by a 32nd or so. (Plenty of videos on how to level the tables are available.) The fence is the weakest link. While not hard, it takes a bit of work to get it square and true to the table. Make sure you have a good try-square to set it and double check it on the outfeed and infeed tables before every use. That would be the one change I would like to see. Also, a few screws were a little loose out of the package, but that's a common occurrence with many benchtop tools. Pros: Price Lightweight. Great for a small shop like mine Clean cuts in hardwood like maple Comes with set up tools and safety pushers The tables are well machined and flat Motor is powerful enough Almost ready out of the box. Only took ~2 hours to level and true the tables and fence, and set up for perfect square cuts. Cons: Fence setup is a little tricky to make sure it's true No onboard tool storage Both of these are very minor issues. In summary, if you take the time to give this jointer a little out-of-the-box TLC, you have a fantastic light-duty machine. I have mostly run maple and poplar through it with no issues and I definitely have no regrets buying it.

Very nice budget jointer

I purchased this in April of this year and have used it on several projects. The unit seems to be well built, but as others have stated the fence has it's quirks. The base that the fence assembly slides on is solid and the fence assembly sits positively on it. The upper part of the fence assembly needs to be improved but is perfectly usable once you know what you are working with. When setting the 90 degree stop, you have to make a rough adjustment, tighten the height adjustment screw, and check level again. As others have said, the level, or plumb of the fence, might change slightly when you lock the fence down. When you know this, you can compensate on the adjustment to get it perfectly 90 degrees when locked. Someone had also mentioned that when you run a board through and maybe tap the fence slightly, it will go out of alignment. I have tested this by literally banging on the fence with my fist and cannot get the fence to move out of alignment. The fence alignment along the length of the table is slightly off out of the box. This misalignment would probably need to be fixed by shimming the fence mounting plate where it attaches to the body of the jointer. However, this misalignment does not affect jointing, so I am not sure if I will try to fix it. The infeed and outfeed tables are coplanar on mine and the infeed maintains the same angle left-to-right and front-to-back when adjusting it the entire range. Dust extraction works pretty well with only a small amount of chips making it above to the table surface. Overall, this unit does exactly what I want it to do, at a very affordable price point. I will report back later with any reliability issues, but so far everything has been great.

This was the last tool I purchased for my small business woodshop. When I starting buying tools to equip my brand new shop I had a priority list...having gotten through the last 40 years without a jointer I still considered it an optional luxury. Boy, was I wrong! Buying the Wen brand was already a no-brainer for me. I have long experience with this American company and own a Wen miter saw, belt sander and planer. No complaints at all with any of them, and I have always been pleased at the much lower impact to my bank account compared to DeWalt and other brands that typically cost exactly twice as much, or more. Jointers and planers USED to be somewhat optional when generally available lumber was good. Lumber now (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards), even "select" choices, would have been firewood in the '70's. Someone remarked to me at Lowes last week while we were both sorting through tuba four after tuba four trying to find unwarped ones that "they don't know how to grow trees anymore". Amen, brother. Because of this, planers and jointers now make it possible not just to achieve near perfection in the pursuit of straight, flat edges and faces but provide the ability to make something reasonable with today's big box store garbage lumber. I've built three projects since including this tool in my arsenal and I love it, especially for laminates where a perfect edge is necessary. While I did of course check everything for square and level out of the box, the only adjustment needed was a minute change to the fence for 45°. Cuts are flawless...my sander and hand plane are bored. Dust collection is about 90% on a 2" flex hose with a 660 CFM collector. I appreciate that two push devices are included. Power cord could be a foot longer but it hasn't ruined my day yet. I do now wish I had opted for the wider 8" model but that regret will be rarely felt to be honest, and I couldn't testify it would have been worth the additional $150. I definitely recommend this tool!

Great bench top jointer at this price point.

Just got my JT630H Jointer. Set up was a snap. I don't know why people were having problems with the fence set up. The two orange levers are spring loaded and can be repositioned to tighten down the bracket holding the fence and keep out of each other's way. After a few minutes the fence was straight to the table and 90 degrees to the table. It seems very solid and should stay aligned. My shop vac hose is slightly big for the supplied dust port so I will need an adapter. I wish they could standardize these dimensions, so you didn't have to buy another part to make it work. Ran a 1"x4" oak about 2' long that had been cut from a larger board on a table saw through this jointer. It removed all saw marks on the face and edge and left a very smooth perfect 90-degree face/edge. For doing work on boards up to 6" wide x up to 4' long this would be great choice at this price. If you watch any videos on set up of this jointer, don't pay too much attention to the one where he puts the fence on upside down. I give this 5 stars.

A handy tool for desk shelves

The spiral cutterhead left a nice smooth surface, so I spent less time sanding before finishing. Setup took longer than I expected, especially getting the fence square and checking the tables. I had to make a few small adjustments before the cut looked even. It takes up a decent chunk of bench space, but it handled the boards I needed for this home office project.
