  • Great Value for a Valuable Tool
Style: Corded Deluxe w/ Steady Grip Pattern Name: Tool Kit
The item and kit arrived exactly as described. Item comes in a purpose built case with a shadowed caddy for all of the included attachments. Operation is as advertised. The flexible shaft and stabilizing grip are excellent add ons that are worth the cost of the package.

  • Good alternative to corded Dremel.
Style: Corded Deluxe w/ Collars Pattern Name: Tool Kit
Only one project with it to date (about 45 minutes runtime), but it handled that well; metal smoothing, so utilized grinding wheels and sanding drums . I personally recommend corded tools if you don't need to work in the field with them as they have superior torque and unlimited runtime. I use mine in the shop so this is no issue. To date this tool seems the equal of Dremel branded tools in performance though far less expensive. I recall buying WEN branded tools as for back as 1980 so they didn't just spring out of the woodwork yesterday. ... show more

  • Great value, solid build. Extension cable (flex-shaft) included. Fraction of the cost of Dremmel competition
Style: Corded Basic Pattern Name: Tool Kit
Exactly as described by other positive reviews. This item has an included flex-shaft extension cable of generous length, and a few accessories (all at a price one-fifth of comparable Dremmel that would run north of $100 with an optional extension cable). Features of note: This is a solidly built variable-speed rotary tool with plenty of power to avoid bog-downs. The variable speed dial control is a numbered thumbwheel near the base, and 'clicks' in at maximum speed setting for a physical feedback of setting without having to look. Motor brushes can be accessed via simple turnscrew ports on the side for brush replacement. Since the Tool has a convenient metal loop at the base of the power cord, it can be easily hung up for storage. The extension cable is priceless as I can concentrate on my work item, with just the lightweight plastic handle in my dominant hand....and not need to hold the heavy motor unit that would need two hands to operate safely under load...the motor unit can now be left resting on a floor/table next to me. The extension cable also makes changing speed or switching power on/off much safer as the 'business end' and power controls are separated into two hands. Although the extension cable works best when arranged to be as straight as possible to reduce frictional heating and wear in the cable, it did not get overly hot when curved....there are anti-kink strain-relief springs at each end of the cable that help prevent over-bending...a nice touch. The hand unit on the flex-cable stayed cool even under heavy loads. DOWNSIDES: The process of attaching the flex-shaft is somewhat cumbersome (unscrew/remove normal end cap, secure inner cable as you would an accessory tip to the driveshaft, and then screw on protective outer housing/cap). However, this is not a big deal.... I plan to keep the flex-shaft attached full-time...why would I *not* use it? It won't fit in original black case with cable attached, but the included plastic box is flimsy anyway; the metal hanging loop on the main tool body takes care of storage issues. RECOMMENDED ACCESSORY PURCHASE: SE RA9228 228-Piece Rotary Tool Accessories Kit I purchased this with the SE RA9228 228-Piece Rotary Tool Accessories Kit which offers a great supplement of accessories, including polishing compound, several diamond-burrs and enough cutting discs and sanding disks to last me a lifetime...for a very reasonable $18. The accessories are secured by friction fit into HDPE plastic lined holes to keep them from falling out, and spaced for easy insertion/removal. Everything was in place upon receipt. There is enough open spaces in the nice included wooden box to dump all the extra accessories from the WEN box into it. Now, I have ALL my accessory tips and polishing supplies in one convenient organized box. ... show more

  • Decent rotary tool, internal details
Style: Cordless Pattern Name: Tool Kit
Summary: I have had a Dremel tool in one form or another for the past 30 years. So I was excited to try a 2-cell 8-volt lithium ion powered version. Observations: Lots of reviews on this item, so I'm going to skip over what everyone else has already said, and discuss one issue which I discovered during first use, that the key lock mechanism does not appear to be very solid (lots of play). My first test was to elongate some mis-drilled holes in a tool rack, using 1/8 carbide drill bits (both items listed below). The holes I was elongating was 5/16" in diameter, and I opened the slot about 1/4". I used speed 3 for most of the grinding, and as you can see from the after pile of steel dust, it was very effective. When I first tightened the collett with the wrench, I noticed that the lock mechanism had a lot of play. My first thought was that it was plastic, and I would probably break it, so I tightened it carefully. Disassembly Details: I decided to open up the Wen and investigate the details. There are a total of eight screws, and two are under the label, so you'll need to cut away the label (WARNING: this probably will VOID your warranty). The orange trays are Horusdy Silicone, and worked well to hold the tool during disassembly. I found that the shaft is supported by a small bearing right behind the threaded shaft area. The lock mechanism is a brass piece pressed onto the shaft. There is an aluminum button that is shifted by the black lock button. I was not able to easily determine how to disassembly the lock button, so that is as far as I got. I am satisfied that the interface for the lock is aluminum into brass, so it should be okay, although I did notice some damage to the brass portion (but it still locks sufficiently). Upon reassembly, I applied thread locking compound (Loctite 242, blue) to the set screw (which was loose during disassembly). Internal Details: I also looked at the details of the Lithium Ion battery pack and found it is a 2-cell, with a total capacity of 900 mAh, consisting of two 14650 cells. The industry standard cell for flashlights is the 18650, at a minimum capacity of 2300 mAh, so this is a pretty low capacity setup. Battery pack was marked SixPack Technology, with a manufacture date of 2019.12.15 (Wen tool was 03/2020). There is also a small black wire near the pack, that is a thermometer to measure the pack temperature, presumably to shutdown the tool if the battery gets too hot. Pros: Lithium powered, 5 speed settings, LED light, Cons: Lock mechanism has some play, which I'm concerned might eventually fail. Conclusion: The Wen 23072 appears to be end of life, and also appears to be a rebranded version of the EnerTwist. The Wen (or the EnerTwist) appear to be a decent setup for a rotary tool. I am rating this one 5-stars based on value for cost paid (EnerTwist is $32).
