I have never owned calipers before - or even used them - so I don't have anything to compare these to. I have some reason to trust their accuracy, e.g., measurements matching known dimensions, but what prompted me to write a review is the fact that (a) they came with a hard plastic case, which I love and (b) they are so easy to use that when I measured a watch, for example, all I did was remove the calipers from their case and open the jaws to fit the watch and the calipers turned on by themselves. They have an on/off button, but I noticed they always turn on when you start using them, which I love because it saves a step, and especially when I am measuring delicate items like a 70 yo mechanical watch, it's helpful not having to then press the button. It's a small thing but details matter. And while there were a few slightly cheaper models, and many much more expensive, I have liked other Wen products, which seem to me, in general, and I suspect here too, to balance nicely between quality and value. I have done woodworking since the early 80s, and so when it comes to that, there are brands of tools that I trust and pay extra for and would never want anything but those. If I were working in a lab or anywhere professionally where I needed to measure things very accurately, I am sure I would want a much more expensive and likely higher quality tool. Maybe I would even not want it to be digital - I do not know. What I do know is that I've had this tool about a week and used it about a dozen times and it's the best $12 I ever spent.

Easy to read and remember how to access functions. I love the fact that this one uses the larger coin battery. for the ones that use the other smaller batteries, i have never trusted the pressure of the little battery cover.

I can't comment on the accuracy for sure but it seems to be very close to another digital caliper I have which is supposed to be more accurate. That said, I really prefer this caliper because it is LIGHT and PLASTIC. Light for being able to hold easily, and plastic so it does not scratch the watch faces I am measuring! One small detail is that you have to re-zero each time. It almost always closes at +0.01mm. Obviously negligible but sort of annoying. But for the price, quality and usability I would 100% recommend this product to my friends. Thanks!

It's a little smaller than what it appears in the picture. It seems accurate when I measured it against known dimensions. The readout is large and easy to read even without glasses. There was not clear directions on where the battery (which is included) went. It said to use a flat head screw driver to remove the cover. There were no screws, but you just pry up a little door and a battery holder pops up. the button battery pops in (can only go one way) and the whole things slides back in to the tool. You zero the tool with the calipers closed and you're ready to do. I like that it has an on/off button. It comes with a plastic case. You can't beat this deal for the price. Bonus that it reads out in fractions. I can't comment on it's longevity, but I assume it would be just fine for light duty applications. I'm very satisfied.

The tool works, but there is no way to lock a position or use it to scribe lines. I picked it up to have a spare set ready at my desk, and they work for that.

If you need a digital plastic caliper with decent accuracy, this one should serve you well. It offers a lot for the price. Pros: 1. The large display is easy to read. A backlight would be nice sometimes. 2. Fractional measurement included. 3. Good accuracy and repeatable. It agrees with my pricey stainless caliper. But no, you wouldn't want to use this one (or just about any other plastic caliper) in a machine shop or where measurement is super critical. 4. Movement is smooth but tight enough over the entire scale, at least when new. The body stays put. 5. Auto-off and auto-on. 6. Battery included. 7. Plastic storage case included. 8. Super low price. 9. Two year warranty, according to the included paper manual. Cons: 1. Although reasonably accurate, it has the annoying habit of being off by at least one trailing digit (e.g., .0005") when the jaws are closed, requiring frequent zeroing after closing. And if you press hard when it's already zeroed, it will change the reading by at least that same trailing digit. Apparently, there is enough play of the body/jaw and/or the jaws aren't perfectly straight/flat, which allows excessive movement. 2. No lock screw. This will become a bigger issue if/when the body starts to loosen on the slide/scale due to wear over time. If this doesn't happen for say 6-12 months of relatively frequent use, then that's not too bad, since the product is priced low enough to warrant relatively frequent replacement. If it doesn't happen within the 2-year warranty period, that would be amazing. Still, the screw should have been included. 3. No thumb wheel. This isn't a machine shop quality measuring device, but IMHO it still should have been included. I highly doubt the additional 50 cents or so (pure guess) per unit in cost due to adding the lock screw and thumb wheel would have turned off any customer. I would have gladly paid a couple DOLLARS more for these and another dollar more for a backlight. Perhaps the manufacturer will reconsider and add them in a future version.
