  • User-friendly and works well
This welder is tiny, lightweight, and works really well. Adjustment is a simple dial with an LED display to show what the amperage output is. I essentially can't weld, since the majority of my experience was decades ago on fluxcore MIG gear. I started with 3/32" 6013 rods, thanks to advice from my buddies. Some dial fiddling was called for, but soon I was putting down horrible beads on some 1/8" plate. The penetration was poor and the beads didn't seem to go where I aimed them. A quick peek at a YouTube tutorial, and I adjusted my amperage way up. Now I was making ridiculous wide flat beads and blowing holes all over my plate. At least now I wasn't false starting nearly every bead! A little bit more fiddling, and I was able to put down a good looking bead. Filler insertion into the parent metal was good, too. This welder runs well with only 110v input. It has survived all my clumsy learning efforts and many mistakes without a hitch. It just starts and goes. Once I had technique and selecting amperage down better, I was able to get good results every time. Now I am able to weld thinwall tubing with it. It does square section tubes with ease, but round is a bear. Results, however, are well worth the trouble. What this all leads up to is, If I can weld using this machine, so can you. It would be a great hobby or light duty welder for someone who actually knows what he's doing. I recommend this good little welder to people of all skill levels ... show more

  • Great little stick welder +/- with 7014 3/32 rod
I am completely amazed at this little S7welder does very well+++++I have been welding since 1978 different projects from utility trailers to 1/16" flat plate and ALWAYS used the "OLD TRUSTED LINCOLN Red 220 A/C welder" AND always will (my Dad showed me how to weld back in 1971). So for the past 4yrs have been seeing advertisements all over the internet for these SMALL tiny welders, and always said ARE YOU SERIOUS????/ So was not sure how good they perform. And yes i have bought 4 DIFFERENT welders and they all seem to pretty well the S7 is the last welder/ It works very well and i could not resist the price i looked at it for 3weeks before i finally give in to it. I WILL NOT give up the original Red Lincoln 220 welder (old reliable) owned since 1978 ... show more

  • Easy to use, does a good job
This welder performed great, I grew up on a farm and had some experience welding so I was not a true beginner, assembly was simple and the product performed as described, the only downfall was took a little time to dial in the right temps as the guides leave a little to be desired for details, it performs best with small diameter rods, for a hobby welder or people looking to add the ability to do some light welding this tool should do the job, I am unsure if it would hold up with daily use, but for myself who uses it maybe once every two or 3 months, it was a great value and worked well. ... show more

  • Stuck in a hard place
I wanted to remove the head from the engine block of my2006 ScionXb. I tried to remove it using screw extractors but they didn't work. Bolt head extractors wouldn't work because they were to big to fit into the area where the striped head bolt was located. I knew I neede to tack weld a bolt onto a rounded out bolt head on an engine block in order to remove it, but my wire feed welder couldn't reach down in there, so I needed another option. I started seaching online for a stick welder because a welding stick could definitely reach the bolt. On the first page of search results I found this little stick welder for $69.00. I ordered it on a Friday and it was supposed to arrive on the next Monday. It actually was delivered before 10am on Sunday morning. I rounded out the bolt head some more so I could push another bolt in and weld it to the damaged one. It did exactly that with no problem. This welder is very small and lightweight so it can't be used to weld I beams on skyscrapers. But for tact welding and any other small projects that don't need continuous welding of beads, it is perfect. Crawing under a building with this unit would be much easier than trying to lug a millermatic 140 with you. I give this product 5 stars! ... show more

  • Very small, but packs a HUGE punch on a budget.
This welder is VERY small, so I didn't expect it to be as impressive as it is. I ran through a little 3/32" 6011 at work just to fool around and see how it'll behave, no hesitation with the right amperage. 7018 in the same size was used to weld the hammer in my photos with this little guy. That's a 4lb head, schedule 40 steel, one pass after a tack weld. If you're a hobby welder, a mechanic looking for an easy little machine to use as needed but don't want to spend thousands, or even a farmer needing a small machine to do quick repairs anywhere, this guy is great. AND it's 110v, which allows you to work anywhere with a 110 outlet nearby. My only complaint is the welding leads are a little short. However you also get 2 extra connectors, so if you bought additional welding cable, and clamps, you can make longer ones. Thus this is a really small issue considering the price point. All told, no I didn't expect high dollar welder performance, or even harbor freight performance, but it beats those things with ease. Even for a novice it isn't hard to use. Absolutely worth the $70 or so. As I said, I'm considering getting another one later for work. Just to have it because what good mechanic doesn't have a welder in his shop? ... show more
