  • Easy to use
Showing is the grill temp probe. Easy to use and accurate with the Webber IGrill.

  • If you want accuracy!
Honestly depended on my grills built in thermostat to know ambient temperature, but was obviously off due to heat rising. What’s most important, is the temp at the grate, where the food is placed. This has been a critical change for me, in knowing the correct temperature, resulting in perfectly cooked proteins and veggies! ... show more

  • Great UI. No connectivity problems. Just wish they were Wifi.
Very smartly designed. I maybe like the cord wraps they come with as much as the probes themselves. I know this is silly, but lots of cord wrap solutions do a terrible job. These hold the probe itself perfectly, and are precisely tapered inwardly to keep the cord from coming out, but without making it difficult to put it in there. The cord wraps/holders snap together so you can keep multiple probes together for storage. As a former product designer, I hope whoever designed those suckers knows that someone out in the world really appreciates how well they're thought out. As far as the functionality of the probes and the app, they're pretty great. The app is pretty user friendly, though I think they could study the Chef Steps Sous Vide app to get some pointers on making it even better. I haven't had any problems with the Bluetooth functionality that some have reported (I use an old iPhone 8). I only took a star off because I would love it if these did Wifi so I could step further away than 30 feet, and maybe even monitor longer cooks (like Brisket) while running an errand. ... show more

  • Limited usefulness and accuracy
For Father's Day 2017, I received a Weber iGrill 2 thermometer that came with 2 meat probes. So, I decided to buy an ambient probe. Up to that point, I was using the thermometer in the lid of my Weber Genesis grill to preheat and maintain the grill temperature according to Weber's "On the Grill" app recommended temperatures and the food was turning out as expected. Naturally, I started to compare the grill thermometer and the ambient probe readings and found the ambient probe was 50º-100º higher when mounted to the top grate of the grill which was as close to the same height as the grill's thermometer as I could mount it. Of course, every bit closer that the probe was mounted to the burner tubes than the grill thermometer would result in a higher temperature. I thought something might be wrong with the probe, so I requested a return and was told to keep the original probe and received a second ambient probe from Amazon. Excellent, now I could compare two probes and determine which one was bad. But, the second one also read high and now I started to notice that both probes would stop reading altogether ~560º. I asked Weber what they thought. They responded by sending me 2 new ambient probes. At this point, I thought with four to choose from, surely I'll find a probe that I could count on. This is also when I discovered that the temperature readings could be exported to Excel. So, the next time I cooked some Sirloin, I set up an experiment. You can see in the attached graph my readings off a new and clean grill thermometer (gray) and the other four probes installed side by side on the top grate of my Weber Genesis. Here were my observations from this little test: 1) All four probes stopped reporting at ~565º, but would also start reporting again when their temperature dropped below 565º. I assume this limit is a Weber iGrill issue, but I can't be sure. 2) Some probes seemed to lag other by up to 1 minute heating and cooling down. 3) When installed at the highest point in my Weber Genesis, the ambient probes were fairly consistent with my grill's thermometer until ~450º which is when I start to need accuracy for cooking higher temperature food like steaks (450º-550º). 4) During cooking, the four ambient probes averaged ~70º-90º higher than the grill's thermometer. This wouldn't be a big deal if I could compensate, but (1) above meant that I could really only heat the grill to ~470º on the grill's thermometer before I would lose readings from the ambient probe. So, that's what I attempted to do (I let it dip down to 450º-460º), but that extended the cooking time ~6 minutes since I basically had to cook at the low end of the suggested temperature range to maintain ambient temperature probe readings. So, my conclusion is that these ambient probes may have their use when grill temps are well below 500º, but their limited installation options and low max temperature handling capability meant I had to choose between accurate cooking times and wireless ambient temperature monitoring. For now, I'll stick with accurate cook time and just use the meat probes with the Weber iGrill. ... show more
