  • Decent product, but expensive
Style: 4TB
This SSD is marketed as for ROG Xbox Ally X but it's just the same product as SN7100 ssd. Exact same spec, works the same too. The SSD itself is pretty good, fast read / write speed, less power draw than previous generation (SN850X), and less heat. This makes it very suitable for portable devices like laptop or handheld. I haven't noticed thermal throttling when copying large files (30+min). It also comes with a XBOX game pass (ultimate, 1-month) coupon. The problem with SSD, or any memory product in 2025/2026 is price, it's ridiculously overpriced right now. Bought this when first launched at $399, a few days later price nearly doubled, insane... ... show more

  • Handheld, Not Hand‑Warmer: An NVMe Upgrade That Keeps Its Cool
Style: 2TB
Quick Take: An officially licensed PCIe Gen 4.0 powerhouse that balances extreme speed with elite power efficiency. While it technically lacks a DRAM cache, its real‑world gaming performance can match or slightly edge out “premium” competitors like the Samsung 990 Pro in some tests while running cooler, making it a top‑tier option for handhelds and thin laptops. ▪️ Officially Certified: Officially Certified: Officially licensed for Xbox gaming on the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, this drive takes the guesswork out of the upgrade and behaves like a true plug‑and‑play drop‑in instead of a generic M.2 gamble. ▪️Efficiency Standout: Third‑party testing has dubbed this drive a “power efficiency king,” showing nearly the same real‑world speed as the SN850X while using less power and tending to run cooler --a big deal for battery life and thermals in handheld gaming ▪️Real‑World Snap: On paper, the 7,250 MB/s read speed is impressive, but the strong 4K random performance is what you actually feel. Windows boots, game launches, and app loads feel incredibly snappy, with some application‑heavy tests putting it roughly a couple percent ahead of well‑known flagship drives. ▪️Sustained Performance: Even with the drive loaded to around 80–85% capacity, third‑party testing shows it holding speed better than many budget Gen 4 drives, which often fall off a cliff at high fill levels. A very generous SLC cache -- on the order of hundreds of gigabytes --lets big game installs and patches complete without an obvious write‑speed crash. ▪️Added Value: The included 1‑month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate trial lets you immediately stress‑test the drive with day‑one releases and a large library of Xbox titles on console, PC, and cloud. ▪️ Pricing Sweet Spot: At the $200–$250 range, this is a "strong buy." If the price drifts significantly higher, it’s worth watching for a sale, but for handheld users, the thermal benefits alone make it a smarter pick than more expensive, power-hungry drives. Summary: This drive proves that you don't need a massive heatsink or a "DRAM-on-board" sticker to be an elite performer. It is a quiet, cool-running masterclass in modern storage for the ROG Ally and PC alike. ... show more

  • Lightning-Fast, Ally-Ready Storage That Delivers True Next-Gen Gaming Speeds
Style: 2TB
Picked up the SN7100X specifically for my ROG Ally setup, and it ended up being a really solid upgrade that feels purpose-built for handheld gaming. This drive is officially licensed for the Ally/Ally X, so installation is as straightforward as it gets - no compatibility weirdness, no thermal surprises, no guessing game about firmware or power limits. It just works. Performance-wise, this thing absolutely moves. The 2TB model is rated for up to 7,250MB/s reads and 6,900MB/s writes, and in real-world usage the system reactions match those numbers. Game loading times shrink noticeably, large titles unpack faster, and jumping between apps feels more like a full-size gaming laptop than a handheld. Coming from a previous-gen Gen4 drive, the extra snappiness is immediately obvious. SanDisk is using their newer TLC 3D CBA NAND here, and it does seem to make a difference. Sustained transfers stay fast for longer before hitting the SLC cache wall, which is perfect for huge game installs or moving around massive files. Even better, the power efficiency boost is real - the drive runs cool inside the Ally, and I’m seeing a bit less battery drain during normal gameplay sessions compared to the older drive I replaced. Storage-wise, 2TB feels like the sweet spot right now. It gives plenty of room for big AAA titles, updates, and a rotating backlog without the constant “what do I uninstall today?” routine. And if you go with a higher capacity later, the SN7100X lineup goes all the way up to 4TB. A nice bonus: it comes with one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which is perfect for immediately testing the speeds with large downloads and a fresh library of games. Overall, the SN7100X hits the right balance - fast, efficient, reliable, and tailor-made for handheld gaming devices and laptops. If you’re upgrading a ROG Ally (or building a compact gaming PC), this drive feels like a premium yet practical choice. The price is on the higher side, but you’re paying for the performance and the peace of mind that everything is officially supported. Highly recommended! ... show more
