First tip is to check your exhaust manifold before tackling this job. Chances are it is cracked. Common problem with these engines. Remove engine covers and then remove the manifold heat shield to see the manifold. Second tip is to get new oxygen sensors. They’re cheap and, well, why not? Remove you old converter…not much to talk about here. You know your abilities. When installing the new converter, use copper anti-seize on all of the fasteners. Now, for the biggest problem I saw and probably what gives people issues is the alignment of the converter to the lower support bracket. Install the converter onto the manifold and tighten the nuts. Next, tighten the lower mount back to the engine and see how it aligns with the mounting bracket on the converter. Mine had about a 1/4” gap between the two mounting brackets. If you just ram the bolt tight, it will put the converter in a bind leading to a broken housing that everyone complains about. I put two flat washers between the two mounting brackets and then tightened the bolt. Oh, and you will need the gasket for the converter to manifold connection and the gasket for the rear of the front converter to the front of the rear converter. ... show more

If you can weld go ahead and weld the flange that bolts to the manifold because after about 500 miles it will crack all the way around the outside in between the bottom of the flange and the top of the converter itself but once I welded mine have not had a problem since

Was working great, after a month I was driving to get on the freeway and the catalytic converter split at the flange. It looked like the weld was not probably fused. I welded it and it’s working again. It was a big inconvenience to have it break, remove it, fix it and then reinstall it. Big warning ⚠️ if you buy it on Amazon, the warranty does not apply. Poor Welding ***** Poor Manufacturing No Customer Service It's sad to see a once reputable company not honor its merchandise. The Catalytic Converter is sub standard in its manufacturing. No excuse Walker! I understand sometimes things go wrong. The right thing to do is fix them. So help me, I will not purchase anything Walker Related again.
