Top Amazon Reviews

  • Very Good Value
Color: Black
Thanks to all of you who gave assembly tips in your reviews! It helped us to avoid what could have been some big headaches. Here is a summary of the what I learned from others as well as first hand: Be sure to read the instructions before starting to assemble. Other reviewers are SO right, if you are using these as bunk beds, be sure the upper rails with the most holes are facing down. The extra hole is necessary to install the ladder. Many people wrote about how difficult if was to install the little gray tabs which stabilize the bed slats. Please note the tabs are flush on one end and there is a little space above the tab on the other end. The flush end goes next to the rail. We were getting very frustrated trying to snap them in place until my husband noticed the difference. The reviewer who suggested taping or padding channel locks to press the tabs in place has a great idea! (The tape/padding is to protect the outer railing from getting scratched). Another note: Some reviewers stated they bought the same beds from Walmart for less money. The ones Walmart has that are exactly like these are priced the same as Amazon. Walmart does offers a less expensive set that looks very similar to this one. I wonder if the reviewers who said these beds are "shaky and not very stable" bought the less expensive set. This Walker Edison set is VERY sturdy and does not rattle at all! If you check out the Walmart site, you will notice the less expensive set is shown with different bedding than this set on Amazon. Walmart's $199.99 set is pictured with the exact same bedding but I think in a different color. These beds are good quality, very sturdy and the finish is great. I like that the ladder can go on either end. The wrap around upper rail makes it possible to place the long side of this set away from the wall. This makes the process of putting on sheets, etc. much, much easier. Amazon's Prime Free Shipping was wonderful and the beds arrived on the expected date. My only complaint is not with Amazon or the bed manufacturer, but with UPS. They did not bother to ring the doorbell and just left the box in our carport. (We were home all day, too). When my husband started to move the box, the bottom was open and items started falling out! Fortunately, we were able to retrieve everything without any damage to the bed itself and amazingly, nothing was lost in shipping! The hardware is blister packed nicely with letters on the side of the cardboard backing that coordinate with the instructions. Initially, we thought eight of the bedpost end caps were missing because there was only a package of eight when the inventory sheet listed 16. Then, we noticed eight had been installed in the bedposts by the manufacturer. Assembly does take time, but we tend to be a bit methodical. I would recommend these beds to a family member or friend. They really are a great value for the money! ... show more

  • Great for adults and kids
Color: Black
Bought this since it had a high approval rating and wasn't too expensive. Very pleased! Bottom mattress is 9" with a 1-2" pillow top/plush top, and I can sit on the bottom bunk and read to the kids without bumping my head or it being too dark. Ladder rungs hurt my feet if I climb them barefoot, but the kids don't seem to mind, and I'll get used to it. I put a pool noodle on the ladder rungs to see if that would help spread out the load on my feet - that didn't do much. Very sturdy, easy to put together, bed doesn't come up off the floor when climbing the ladder. Just make sure you pay attention to where you're putting the openings to mount the ladder, as other reviewers have said. Black version with black hardware is very good looking. The side rails on top didn't seem like they'd fit, because the holes didn't quite match up, but after getting all the screws in and tightening them all slowly in turn, everything ended up together well and tightened up nicely. No problems with shaking, nice and sturdy. Love the 250 lb weight limit per bed. ... show more

  • So far, so good!
Color: White
After reading the reviews and taking notes on how to avoid the Step 3 Mistake, I carefully followed the otherwise clear instructions and got the bed put together curse-free in under 3 hours - I did have to enlist the help of my husband when it came to popping those blasted little plastic tabs into the crossbars, which he didn't have much trouble doing. He wondered if those who said they did have trouble were trying to push them straight in or one side at a time like he was. We also put the top crossbar/slats section together before attaching it to the frame, so maybe that made it easier. Anyway, the plastic tabs definitely make the slats feel nice and secure. Here's the rundown: (items marked with * are reasons for the 4/5 star rating) About the construction: -Okay, first the packaging. Couldn't have been happier. Nothing was bent, scratched, or misshapen. The packing was nice and padded and tight. None of the metal pieces rubbed against other metal. While it might seem a little wasteful, each of the 44 metal slats was in its own individual plastic sleeve, so none of them were marred at all. I didn't think to check, but the sleeves felt like recycled plastic. I'm not sure if you know what I mean, but there you have it. Come to think of it, the cardboard for the "O" parts may have been recycled, too. Pretty sure the rest of the packaging wasn't, though. -One of the holes in one of the end posts (A or D) must have been slightly off, as one of the assembled [head or foot] pieces (step 2) wasn't quite straight after I assembled it. This didn't make a difference after the bed was completely put together, though. -*The ladder could be a little better constructed. The horizontal metal pieces that attach to the top bunk aren't exactly flush with the edge of the crossbar it attaches to. If you have the right dremel attachment, you can widen the screwhole a little bit and push the ladder inward as you tighten the bolts. Otherwise, you may have a tiny bit (like, a cm) of a sharpish edge sticking out at the top of the ladder, either from the rectangular horizontal piece or from the top of the hollow tube. (Kind of hard to explain.. sorry!) Not a huge deal, and pretty easily fixable. Also, if you change your mind about where to put the ladder, it's really easy to move. -*The posts are definitely not as flush as the picture would have you believe. No surprise, of course. It would be nice, though, if there were some kind of sleeve that slipped over the tubes where they connect, kind of like a curtain rod..if that makes sense. About the finished product: -The extra little legs in the center of the bottom crossbars are nice and make the bed feel extra sturdy. -The ladder might take some getting used to. While the design does make it more compact since you don't have a ladder sticking out diagonally and taking up 2 or 3 feet of extra space, it is a little trickier to climb up a perfectly vertical ladder, at least for a 7-year old. The inclination is to lean back as you climb, which would loosen the joints and eventually make the bed wobbly. I'm sure we'll get the hang of it, though. -It really does seem sturdy. There is very little jostling on either bunk when someone gets on or off the other one, as tested by myself (115lb on top bunk) and my husband (170lb on bottom bunk). Just remember to check and tighten the bolts periodically. -Another reviewer mentioned the height, saying it's taller than most bunks. This almost turned me away, as I was nervous enough having my rambunctious 7-year old boy on a top bunk. I was relieved to find that this isn't actually the case - it's the bottom bunk that is a bit lower than usual. As the other reviewer also mentioned, this gives you plenty of headroom on the bottom bunk, which is true. Unless you're freakishly tall, any adult could sit comfortably on the bottom bunk (which could be important for bedtime reading and storytime). The top bunk almost seems lower than normal..I'm 5'3" and I can almost see over it. :) -I think someone mentioned the mattress size. We used two regular twin mattresses, and with bedding on them, they fit perfectly. A naked mattress would have space on the sides, but I think it's meant to allow for comforters and such. If you don't use fluffy bedding, you can always fill in the space with stuffed animals! All in all, I'm happy with my purchase, and I'd recommend it to someone who is looking for a sturdy bunkbed and doesn't want to settle for the cheap one that goes by many names but gives itself away with the same photo everywhere you see it...here on Amazon or at the Big Stores. If you've been shopping around for bunkbeds, you know what I'm talking about. ... show more

  • GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE, BUT BE PREPARED FOR AN INTENSIVE ASSEMBLY
Color: Black
I was very leery about buying bunk beds on line. But I had very few options after our supposedly reputable family run furniture store here in San Diego, totally left us in a lurch after sitting on our order for a week. I had 4 adult size guests due to arrive and no beds to accommodate them for sleeping. We ordered 2 sets of the beds and 4 of the 6" mattresses. We put 1 set together the evening it arrived and the second set the following morning. Assembly takes two…..unless you have an unlimited amount of books, ladders, or other devices to prop up the "other end" as you work. The directions were ok, BUT THE ADVICE FROM THE AMAZON CUSTOMERS WAS EVEN BETTER! MANY, MANY THX TO YOU ALL FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE SUCH WELL THOUGHT OUT, DETAILED, INFORMATIVE REVIEWS! IT MADE THE SALE AND WAS GREATLY APPRECIATED DURING THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS! We had no problem with alignment of the pieces with the predrilled holes. There were a few problems with some of the mattress support rods being a fraction of an inch too long, but we were able to move them around until they all fit. The ladder attachment was somewhat awkward and could have been better described in the directions. The biggest problem was with the little plastic squares from Hell. They worked…eventually…but who thought that was a good idea?! Even using a flat metal tool to apply pressure to assemble these little demons was excruciating to our fingers…especially my arthritic fingers. Thank goodness there were two of us! Needless to say, the second bed was assembled in half of the time as the first. After a very interesting assembly experience and about 2 weeks of use, I can say that I am very pleased with the sturdiness and stability of the beds and feel that they were a great value for the price. (I regained full motion of my fingers after a couple of days) ... show more

  • Good, basic bunk/beds
Color: Black
Great bed for the price and exactly what I was looking for. It's on a hard floor and bins slide under it easily. The bunks are spaced well so my teenage son can sit up all the way comfortably on either bed. He's 14 years old and put it together himself for him and his little brother. Nothing complicated with the assembly. The mattresses we chose are fairly thin so we should have put a board under them right away. The metal bars under the mattresses bent in a saggy shape and were very noisy before we put a piece of plywood over them. It's much sturdier and quieter now. I like the clean, minimalist design. The horizontal rods on the head/footboards can easily hang a basket/bin/anything. I also like how it can be separate twin beds or stacked as a bunk bed. The black looks nice in my boys' room and is holding up well, no scratches or marks. Overall, it's exactly what we wanted. ... show more

  • I'm glad I pulled the trigger and purchased this bed
Color: Black
I was hesitant to buy this bed due to some of the negative reviews--after all, my kid's safety is my number one concern. However, there was still an abundance of positive reviews that far out number the negative. I'm glad I pulled the trigger and purchased this bed, it's great quality at a great price. I'm not sure why so many people were complaining about poor instructions or the length of time it took to assemble. The instructions were fairly straight forward, I didn't have a single issue--just read the instructions and look at the pictures closely. In regards to the assembly time, it took me 2 1/2 hours to assemble by myself. That might be lengthy to some, but considering the amount of pieces and the fact that I did it myself, I think I made pretty good time. You're building a bunk bed, you kind of have to have the expectations going into this that it will take some time. The best advice I can give: 1. When you install the upper cross bar labeled 'Part H', Make sure the small screw holes are facing DOWN! If you do this incorrectly, you will not be able to install the ladder and will have to disassemble everything to that point. 2. If you're using this for a young child and are concerned about them falling off the top, I would recommend not getting a mattress thicker than 8". We purchased the Signature Sleep Contour 8" mattress off Amazon and it's perfect. It leaves exactly 6" from the top of the mattress to the top of the guardrail. Overall, the bed seems really sturdy. My 6 year old sleeps on the top and my 3 year old on the bottom. I have laid on the bottom without any issues, I'm 210 lbs. Not to be rude, but I'm fairly confident that most of the negative reviews about this bed are likely caused by human error--simple as that. Take your time and don't rush it! ... show more

  • Great experience given assembly caveats
Color: Black
My experience was very similar to many others. Shipping was quick despite the 100# weight. Previous reviewers were right on the money warning me about getting the #H piece upside down, so I "dodged that bullet." I did get another of the bottom cross bars upside down, but that was quickly obvious as soon as I tried to mount the additional two feet on the bottom cross bars. Assembly took me about 2-1/2 hrs. I was mostly slowed by having to lock in the 44 cross "slats". I guess my fingers aren't as strong as others, as I had to use various methods to insert the locking tabs (to hold down the slats). I tried hammering, but broke several of the locking tabs. I then did a lot of them using wood (to protect the bed from marring) with vise grips. That was slow. Finally, the best method I found was to fully engage one side of the tab, then to push the opposite end (with a piece of wood), slightly bowing the tab before it snapped in. Since you end up having to put in 88 of these tabs, getting a fairly quick means of doing these tabs would have saved me some time. I finally figured out the latter method at the halfway point, after which the remaining tab locking went fairly quickly. Overall, I am very happy with the product. Looks good, is quite sturdy, and seems to be well designed. My 7 yo daughter and 5 yo son love it! ... show more

  • Well its up...
Color: Black
This was something else to put together... It took about 4 hrs with me & my husband & 2 of ours kids helping off & on... After putting it together, we said never again would we buy anything like it... Some of the directions are lil backwards cause we felt that if we had started a different way vs following the directions it would have been easier & not have taken so long... I noticed as I was tightening the bolts that they can easily become stripped so be careful... Be careful of the bars that go across for the mattress to be on cause those are a pain to put in & have them lock into place... Also please be aware of how u putting in the side rails for the ladder to go so the holes can match up or else u risk the pain of having to unscrew one side to reverse & flip it, in which we had to do & that was us following the directions to a T.... Once it was up, & the kids starting to go up & down it, it is a lil wobbly & makes a lil noise, but nothing that is unbearable which is understandable due to the material... I think it's pretty good tho... I would recommend if u definitely don't mind putting all those pieces together & think it's going to work out pretty well considering I bought it for my step kids for when they come over on the weekends... ... show more
