  • Have reasonable expectations, this is a decent flat-pack dresser
Color: Caramel Size: 1 pack Style: Mid-Century Modern Pattern Name: Dresser
If you're used to putting Ikea furniture together, you'll be fine. solid wood with the exception of drawer bases and the rear cover of the dresser that you affix with finishing nails. You get an assortment of screws, dowels, and Allen key, and an anti-tipping kit. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver and maybe a hammer to tap a few of the dowels in (most of the dowels fit in easily but the diameters are not consistent, so some require tapping in). Get some bees wax (as recommended in the instructions) to lubricate the drawer rails so the the drawers move smoothly. A couple of reviewers commented that the glue was missing. There is no glue stated in the instructions, it's not supposed to come with it. Get a good wood glue and glue all the dowels in (once you're sure the assembly is correct and you don't plan on ever disassembling the dresser). WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR! Someone left a review about the crappy assembly and damage due to the assembly process. This is easy to do if you're not careful and not thinking. For example, although drawer assembly appears later in the instructions, the drawers can me assembled by themselves at any time. Wood dowels guide the drawer sides to attach them to the drawer front. There are two pocket holes on either side that require 2 screws each side to finish connecting those parts together. DO NOT OVERSCREW HERE! The wood is soft and you may want to keep turning the screw until it complete stops moving but don't do it -- you will likely poke through the drawer front ever so slightly (like I did with only one screw, luckily). Also, when you screw the drawer sides to the rear drawer panel, there are two screws per side at this location. One reviewer apparently did not center the rear panel thickness in the middle of the screw hole guide and so screwed too close to the back of the drawer panel that she split the panel. Use some common sense (not to pick on people, but really, just realize that you're using the force of a manual screwdriver to drive into soft wood, the holes are wherever you decide they go. DO NOT OVERSCREW. Use some wood glue, you'll be fine! Have patience. There are a lot of parts but most go together similarly. Turn on some music, grab a drink, have at least three hours, and just take your time. I paid two fifty five for this, I would not have been happy if I paid $300. If you own the Billy series of bookcases from Ikea, the wood is similar -- very soft. Anyway, it's great temporary furniture for an apartment. Do not overload the dresser top, as the center appears that it may sag (i.e. don't stand on it, it's not that kind of dresser). It has four corner legs and could use center legs on both the front and rear base. I did not install the particle board backer, as I plan to add some 1/8" wood strips so the piece does not wrack. Without the particle board backers nailed in place, the dresser will wrack with little force. The top edge of the dresser came with some missing stain, it's got some white streaks. I can recolor it, but that was the biggest surface flaw I saw. ... show more

  • It's a good quality piece of flat pack furniture, ya'll!
Color: Caramel Size: 1 pack Style: Mid-Century Modern Pattern Name: Dresser
We bought this six-drawer dresser for our son's nursery and we're pretty happy with it! We scoured the internet for a dresser that was both affordable and good quality, and after reading TONS of reviews we decided to take a chance on this one. Since the previous reviews are what helped us decide, I'm going to address some points that tanked the reviews on this product. -ease of assembly: ya'll...it's flat pack furniture. It's going to be an absolute pain and take forever to assemble. My husband is not a naturally handy guy but he is patient and has assembled flat pack before. It took him about 3 1/2 hours to put together on his own. The pieces are all very well labeled and if you sort them before hand, it will be SO much easier. You also have to pay SUPER close attention to the small details on the drawings (which side the screw holes are on, which side the little ledge is on, etc), but they are there! -pre-drilled holes: on the 6-drawer dresser, there are pre-drilled holes that you just drill the screws or tap the pegs into. My husband used a hammer to gently tap the pegs into their holes (which all fit fine) with a dab of wood glue on the tops. The only step that did NOT have pre-existing holes was when you use the small framing nails to nail the two backing pieces to the dresser frame. Pretty straightforward, not a big deal. -quality: it's on the cheaper side of what I would want to pay over $300 for, so definitely get it on sale (which it frequently goes on). Overall though, I'm very happy with the look and the quality for what we paid- it's a very handsome dresser! My only issue with it is the drawer pull edges seem like they will chip with a lot of use. -drawer smoothness: the drawers pull out smoothly with no issues! My two-year-old daughter can do it with little effort. The instructions say that if there are any drawer issues, you can use wax to prime the drawer sliders. -tools: My husband used an electric drill on the lowest setting so that it wouldn't split the wood when he was trying to get the screws in tight. He used a hand screwdriver on just a few pieces. The ketchup packet of wood glue they include was WAY enough to use as the directions stated. If you need to come back to the assembly project, just use a chip clip to keep the glue fresh. We emptied half of the packet onto a paper plate and dipped the ends of the pegs into it before sticking them in their holes and still had enough left over to complete the rest of the project with excess still on the plate. -functionality: Like I said, we used this for our son's nursery. If that's your plan, know that a standard foam changing pad LITERALLY JUST fits width-wise on the top of the dresser. It's a bit more narrow than I would have liked for a main dresser, but it still fits everything we need it to. I think this dresser is best suited for areas of the house that you're not going to use a whole lot...like as an entry way or a buffet cabinet, etc. I'm a little suspicious that it won't hold up as nicely as I want it to as a nursery dresser that will be VERY heavily used for diaper changes, storage, and the like multiple times a day. We'll see though! Overall, if you love the look of the dresser and you want something that's a good balance of quality for the price AND made of real wood, this is your piece! If you've never assembled flat pack before, this probably isn't the piece you want to start with! ... show more
