I've got a heavy old 17" monitor attached to the short arm and again a heavy old Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop connected to the long arm. So far it's holding up splendidly, no issues with slipping. No sharp edges, tray surface is smooth but it comes with small stick on rubber pads to reduce sliding, comes with cable clips with slots to hold the wrenches used to adjust it, also comes with extra monitor screws in case you decide to mount 2 monitors instead of use the laptop tray which is normally screwed on to the second VESA mount. The only plastic seems to be the knob to tighten the clamp, 2 cable clips and a thin sleeves between the joints that I'm guessing are there to keep metal on metal contact at a minimum. The top of the clamps are padded to protect the top of your desk, the bottom is not. If you really care about the underside of your desk, add some felt or moleskin to the bottom part - probably won't scratch as none of the metal pieces are sharp, but it's not worth risking if it matters that much to you. Definitely would do it for a glass desk. I have an Ikea desk (FREDDE Gaming desk) with metal poles from floor to top of a shelf that are flat on the wide side and round on the thin side. I've mounted this to sit on the flat side on a horizontal section of it and it's very secure (moves the whole desk like it's 1 piece when I push the main pole back and forth). I don't think I'd go thinner than these metal poles though (about an inch wide and half inch thick). Tried to mount it upside down from the top shelf, but unfortunately it has a metal bar under it that didn't have enough surface to keep it stable. I think it would have worked right-side up on that same bar or if I had wanted to drill a whole in the shelf to use the other method of mounting it. I bought another Wali mount which I'm using as a mouse tray (the one that doesn't have the monitor arm ASN: B07BDQQVN2). Anyway, I mounted it upside down so that the tray was under the desk (the tray can go horizontal when upside down). It's the same clamp and pole and it's solid upside down. I can't see any reason it won't work in the long term. So if you have a shelf or want something under the table, upside down can work. It is risky though, if a monitor arm were to slip on the pole it'd fall right off since there's nothing to stop it when upside down. So be sure to tighten it. ;)

Pretty sure the reason for returns is that the screws & spacers provided to mount the monitor are limited. I had to source my own to get the job done but the setup is fantastic. Stand feels sturdy and it works well for my mobile workstation paired with a USB powered monitor. It would be nice to have included a strap to secure the laptop but i will make one.

Very study and does exactly what I wanted it to do. I attached it to a portable rolling desk and it doesn’t wobble at all. The monitor is secured pretty good and I roll this thing all. I also used the shorter arm on the monitor and the longer arm for the tray. The tray is a little uneven but not too bad. Would buy it again.

Never wrote a review before but I was pleasantly surprised with this product. It's solid and made pretty well, it's a little tiny more expensive than other similar monitor stands I've seen but I think it's worth it. Comes with everything you need, screws, Allen wrenches, etc., My primary purpose for this stand was to use it for a monitor and my laptop, to my surprise they come with an extra second VESA monitor mount, so later down the road if you want to use it primarily for 2 monitors you'll have the extra monitor mount and all the screws for it as well. No complaints. I think I read some other reviews that says the arms aren't strong enough to hold up a monitor or whatever... They're probably idiots, there's a screw at the joint of the arm labeled "+" and "-" tweak that to adjust the strength of the spring. It'll definitely hold what they recommend in the guidelines.
