I bought this mortal and pestle to replace another one that I bought but it didn't work very well. This is a VERY nice M&P. It is sturdy and well built. The wooden base is just beautiful against the black stone. It grinds my spices beautifully. I absolutely love it. I purchased this Waldwerk mortar and pestle set because it had the oak base so the stone wouldn't scratch my granite countertop when my husband enthusiastically makes guacamole. He loves it. It's a small bowl, really just big enough for one large avocado and fixin's, but it's perfect for him. He loves how heavy the stone is. His only complaint would be that the pestle is small for his hand, but he has big ol' man hands. If you are needing to make large amounts of guacamole, this is not the mortar and pestle you seek. If, however, you are making a serving for one or two, this will work fine. It is also great for grinding spices and other things.

This is substantial and heavy. It does a great job with saffron and herbs. I don’t usually leave things out on my counters but this is kind of a statement piece. It gets lots of comments from guests.

Love the acacia base, the actual mortar and pestle are well made and the finished sides are nicely polished. Exactly what I was looking for, and I suspect this will last a very long time.
