This biochar based potting soil was very easy to work with when I added it to my garden as a soil amendment. I mixed this blend in to my garden soil several days before adding seeds for the growing season, as the instructions state. It is still early so I can't comment on any improvement to the plants themselves, but I can comment on the texture and ease of use of this potting soil. It was fluffy and soft, with almost no clumps at all, straight out of the bag immediately after opening. It mixed very well with my existing garden soil and retained the moisture from what I could tell. Based on the texture, I think this would also be a great soil for starting indoor seeds, as mentioned by others.

When it comes to gardening I have a black thumb and little experience so keep that in mind as you consider my review I put some of this in several cops and dropped in some vegetable seeds. I've been watering as instructed and I am getting some healthy looking sprouts so far. I think this means this product is well designed for growing vegetables. I am using this blend for my tomato plants, and the blend is very good. The soil holds the moisture well, so I do not have to water my tomato plants as frequently. There are no bugs in the mixture. There is not much to the bag so you will not be able to pot many plants. But for the plants that I did use the soil, they are growing well.

This review is for the Wakefield - Premium Biochar Blend - Organic Potting Soil with Humic Acid for Vegetables - Enhanced Organic Soil Mix with CarbonBoost for Vegetables,Tomatoes and Gardens - 2quarts. I originally purchased this to add to some plain potting mix and cow manure. I decided to try half of the bag in one pot by itself. I am planting some seedlings that I will leave inside for a couple of weeks, as there is still snow on the ground at my place. As you can see in the pics, the soil mixture is nice and dark. I also like the resealable bag. I am basically just curious to see how they do before in invest anymore into this brand of enriching/enhancing soil product.

I'm very excited. Yes, about this soil amendment. Why? Well, I just looked at the back of this. Before I just though "biochar" and that's great. However, looking at the back of the bag, there's something in this that the listing doesn't even mention... Mycorrhizae!!! I'm thrilled to have this in there. I've been wanting to get some and now I have a little to bring some valuable benefits down to the roots. I'm new to all this, but I've read countless articles praising mycorrhizae and how it dramatically improves the health and growth of your plants. So I can't wait to use it! Without that, I still would have given this 5 stars. Now, that's unquestionable. (BTW, I obviously haven't used this yet, but when I do, I will try to remember to follow up this review with some idea of how well it enhanced growth and production. I hope you liked my review. I always try really hard to write reviews are are candid, honest, and helpful for your shopping decisions. No AI here... all the poor writing is mine and mine alone! :-P

I was looking for a bag of dirt for my seed starting as that season is right around the bend and will be here before I'm ready. Now thanks to Wakefield, I'm ready. I couldn't help it. I opened the bag and giave it a sniff. It's smells like good fresh dirt. It's blended for veggies and that's what gets a jump start in my garden, so we're right on track. It's very black, just like in the image listing - so biochar is spot on. I've not worked with dirt that has Mycorrhizal Fungi in it previously, but this will be a fun test. You should note that while the listing says, organic, nothing on the bag claims it is organic. This may make a difference to some folks, it does not to me. This will also help the plants retain more moisture for less frequent watering. This is important in some settings. I suppose harvest time will tell how successful this soil is, but I'm really counting on this giving my seeds a good solid start for healthy roots. Would purchase again for more seed starting and will likely keep one on hand for the future. Happy plants = happy me!

I've used this soil in my starts, and they are doing fantastic! I like that this is so environmentally concious. I've wanted to use bio-char for a while, and didn't realize you could just buy it. You can use this as is, as straight potting soil, or you can add it to existing soil for a real boost!
