I am not a professional painter. Now that that is out of the way, I don't know how anyone paints without one of these on larger jobs (even a single room). There becomes an efficiency point for using this vs. a standard roller, but i'd say anything that you are doing that is the size of a 10x10 bedroom or more, this is well worth it. The time i have saved with this little thing made it worth its weight in gold. However, its not perfect, which was expected at the price range its in. I ran into the following issues that were all rectified: - The pump loss section on its second use. It would not pull paint out of the bucket. However, after playing with it enough and leaving the machine running it eventually worked and has worked flawlessly the following 3 times i have used it. - The connection where the roller slides on to the handle tends to leak. To fix it, i just pulled the connection apart, wiped it off and put it back together. Fixed it every time it happened. This was usually when the roller was pretty saturated so i may have overloaded. Either way, its an easy fix. All in all, great machine for what its worth. Takes a bit of time to get a feel for how fast the paint loads the roller and how often you need to run the pump, but once you get it down, you will fly! I don't see this lasting 10 years, but honestly if you get 2-3 jobs out of it, its well worth the money. Lastly, cleanup sucks (as it does with most power rollers). If you do it right, you will spend 30-40 minutes or so. Small price to pay, but doing it correctly extends longevity.

I really went back and forth before buying this unit. I am in the middle of a big painting project and thought, I've wasted $73 on worse things so I thought I'd give it a try. I watched a few videos on YouTube regarding the usage and clean up and also purchased a 5 gallon pail which really helps in the clean up. This thing has worked great so far. The first day, it made quick work of the bedrooms and hallways. Cleaning up the first time took a little extra time but I'm pretty thorough in my clean up. When I came back the next day the unit worked great. A little piece of advice here is when you go to use it again after cleaning it, run the unit without the suction tube in anything and that will push any excess water out of the lines. Clean up was easier after the second day. I just put the suction hose in the 5 gallon pail of hot soapy water and let the unit run (draining into the sink) while I cleaned the roller and other tools and it was fine. It's been two weeks since I used it so I coated the seals on the roller arm with petroleum jelly and covered them in saran wrap so they should be fine for next weekend. Overall, this is a real time saver. It's so nice not having to go back and forth to the paint tray all the time. I wouldn't use this to paint a bathroom or maybe even a small bedroom but anything more than that, it gets the job done fast. The paint spreads nicely and clean up isn't bad.

I have always found that the Power Roller is worth the clean-up if you are doing a big job. The Sidekick is similar to the Power Rollers I have used in the past, but there was one big problem that I had to get creative to solve. In prior Power Roller models that I have used, the button to send the paint to the roller was at the bottom of the extension handle. The paint flowed through the extension handle. It made sense. The sidekick's design did not make sense when I tried using an extension handle. Because the button to turn the pump on and off - and therefore control the flow of paint - is located in the handle that is connected to the roller, installing an extension pole puts the button with the roller at the top of the extension pole. As a result, you have to press the button to start the flow of paint, quickly use the pole to move the roller to the ceiling to apply paint, and then pull the roller back down quickly to turn the pump off before too much paint is applied. Many times the paint would drip because I could not get to the roller at the end of the pole fast enough. Very frustrating, especially after the previous Power Roller designs worked much better in this regard. I started to think about alternate ways to turn the pump on and off and came up with a solution. I purchased a wireless remote control outlet. I purchased this one from Amazon: Wireless Remote Control Outlet, Fosmon Outdoor Electrical Outlet Switch Weatherproof Heavy Duty, 3-Prong Plug-in ETL Listed (Battery Included). I plugged the remote control outlet into the wall, then plugged the sidekick into it. I then turned on the main power switch on the base of unit and pressed the button in the handle connected to the top of the pole. After that, I taped the remote control switch to the bottom of the pole and used it to turn the unit on and off. Never had to take the roller off the ceiling (except when my arms got tired...) With that fix, the unit works great. Again, I would not recommend it for small jobs because of the cleanup involved, but if you are doing a lot of painting, this unit will save you time and paint.

While this roller does have some imperfections, it's still 5 stars to me when compared to the alternative. I splurged on this power roller because we have SO MUCH to paint. It has and will continue to save us so much time and our backs. It's easy to set up & easy to use. I love that you just connect it to your can, saving all the pouring and drippage and gooey dried lids. It was surprisingly simple to regulate the amount of paint coming through the roller. These types of items are hit or miss so 5 stars from me because it does what I wanted and the few frustrating things don't compare to the time savings and physical labor. What's imperfect: -While you don't have to constantly reload your loader and climb up & down the ladder to do so, the roller is a bit heavy because of the tube full of paint you're also holding. No fault of the product, just important to know. -The trigger that starts & stops the paint flow is easy to use...until you get a couple of hours in and the splatter and general paint on your hands causes it to stick. We should have stopped to clean it when it started, but tried to power through and eventually couldn't make it stop and spilled paint all over the floor trying to just shut off the power entirely. Manageable, but also good to know in advance. -Cleanup is a chore. But no worse than you would expect. I'm known to often throw out rollers rather than wash them, but that's not an option here. You have to use the provided roller or replace it with the same. I bought a spare and it wasn't too expensive. To clean the rest of the machine you will need a 5 gallon bucket and a lot of water. You'll almost have to take this outside unless you have a tub you don't care about. Otherwise, it's just a matter of running the machine for a steady half hour then just wiping it all down. It's worth it if you use it for a big project, but I wouldn't drag it out for a small room or a single wall. There's no quick-change of colors. Overall, no regrets on the purchase. My time & back are worth more than the pricetag and the cleanup.

This product started out great, but that only lasted about 30 minutes. After a short time of use, the button on the roller handle, which i guess is a pressure switch, stopped functioning properly. I would start the pump to get more paint, but then the button would not fully return back to the starting position, which meant I could not turn off the paint, leaving me with paint pouring out faster than I could roll it. To alleviate this, I had to turn it on and off each time I wanted paint with the power switch. I did this for one other room and the start of a hallway, however mid-way through the hall, the machine stopped turning on completely. I attempted several different plugs and extension cords, however nothing worked to get it to start again. Wagner needs to make the switch on the handle, a toggle switch or one that does not get gummed up by paint. If this had worked properly, it would have been awesome because when it did work, it was very effective. However, since I think the design of this item is flawed, I would not recommend buying it because these problems will persist in my opinion.

I have to say this actually works. I was skeptical going in but it does make painting faster and without an unwieldy pole having to be dipped in a tray continually. Other reviews note it’s hard to clean. I’d say takes a while but not so hard. More on that in a minute. I couldn’t understand how it used more paint , as many note. I still don’t understand but it does go through more paint for a same size surface. I never had any clogging issues with the device. It works flawlessly. Cleaning: the instructions were confusing and I think one part actually written incorrectly. What I do is run the paint out back into the bucket as specified. Then I mix my dawn and water in a 5 gallon bucket. I get another bucket to run into. I take the cover off and wash it in the sink as I would would any other roller. The use the machine to run the solution from one bucket to the other. Then clear water. It takes a while but not active time for me other than washing the roller cover. My friends told me not to get it, that it didn’t work. I feel there must have been a glitchy earlier generation because this item does what it promises.

Bought this, as I'm remodeling a house and had a large area for a single color. First, don't buy this for a single bedroom paint job, where you have standard 8 foot ceilings and smooth walls. It's not really worth it for that when you consider the money and time investment. I used this in a large "great" room, dining room, etc. Some walls had old paint over knockdown walls, some had new knockdown applied. This thing worked really well for my situation. The hardest part is getting it going. You need to work the paint into the roller and that will take a minute or two to get it saturated...but you have to keep rolling on the wall, even if you're not painting anything. Otherwise, you'll get bad drips. I did the vast majority of my work without a drop cloth (laminate and tile, no carpet). Once it's saturated you're good to go. Use 5 second bursts to recharge the roller with paint as it runs low. People who say this thing pumps paint too fast, obviously left the thing running the whole time and are obviously idiots. This helped a lot on the fresh knockdown walls, because it can lay the paint on pretty thick without having to roll it in the pan every other stroke. Knockdown tends to eat up paint pretty quick but I effectively covered all the surfaces in 2 coats (second coat being very quick and light, just to fill in the "holidays" as painters call them). On smooth walls, this thing flies. I used this with 5 gallon and 1 gallon cans with no issues. CLEAN UP TIPS: I got this down to science. - You basically need three 5 gallon buckets (homer pales from HD for $5, if you don't already have a couple) - Helps to be outside at a hose or spigot. - Strip paint from roller, back into paint can, as much as possible. - Fill one buck with water (IF you have access to warm water, great...I didn't) and Dawn dish soap. Stick the feed tube in there, as you would a paint can. - Pull off roller, strip parts, throw in second bucket (IF YOU'RE THROWING AWAY THE ROLLER, DON'T FORGET TO TAKE OUT THE INTERNAL PARTS) - Hang handle roller on empty 3rd bucket (or hang it on something like a fence, etc) - Run the machine. Let the soapy water flow through the machine for a solid 15 minutes (don't put them in the same bucket as suggested in other posts...you're just cycling dirty water back through for no reason) - Use second bucket to wash roller and parts while it runs. (These rollers aren't cheap....try to get a few uses out of them) - Empty bucket #1, rinse and fill with only clean water. - Run machine again and let the plain water run through for another 10 minutes. - Take the handle apart and make sure it gets cleaned well. I like to stick the end of the metal piece right on the end of hose to blast out the little holes of any dried paint. If the latex paint dries and clogs a couple of those holes, you're screwed next time. - Make sure you're only pumping clean, clear water...at that point the internals are as clean as they can get. - Pull the feed hose out of the water and let it run for a minute to pump out any water in the hose. Try to elevate the machine and use gravity to drain the hose. I like to hang it up in the garage to let it dry, with the handle in a bucket to drain. - Clearing the line of excess water is important, otherwise you'll go to use it again and you'll start with very wet paint and get a lot of runs and drips. - I like to re-start it with the roller off and the handle in a bucket. You'll see the paint flow through and push most of the water out first. Let it run in the bucket a little to make sure you're dry and then put roller on. - You WILL waste a little more paint with this set-up than with a traditional roller - be aware of that if you think you're going to be right on the edge of having enough paint. Other tips: Don't get the perforated rollers at HD - they SUCK compared to the Wagner brand rollers on Amazon and are twice the price (in-store, compared to Amazon). UPS showed up while I was rolling with an HD roller....I took it off and started over with a fresh Wagner mid-job. Just remember, you're going to need a solid 30 minutes to clean up. If you decide to let this sit and not clean it properly, you won't get another use out of it. Have some vasoline or grease or oil for the areas where the rollers connects and rotates. You'll notice they come oiled and if they go dry, this thing will squeak and be harder to roll. Yes, this thing gets heavy...surprisingly. I'm a grown man in good shape and it was heavier than expected when full of paint. A GOOD contractors pole will help alleviate some of that, even if you're not going high up. The 2-4' extendable one (solid metal interior...not a cheap broom handle type) work really well...you can control pressure with one hand and movement with the other - splits up the work.

I'm in the process of selling a rental house I own. I had intended to paint the entire inside of the house, as well as the inside of the attached garage. I decided to test this out in the garage first, knowing i'd be doing all one color, and didn't have to be overly concerned about the dripping. good plan! This unit is good for painting walls, but not for the ceiling. The way it operates is there is a switch which turns the pump on, it pumps paint to the roller and loads the nap via holes in the roller. There is no adjustment for the rate of feed. Which is teh major issue I have with this unit, if you could adjust teh rate down to a reasonable amount this unit would be great. The pump is switched at teh handle, which when doing areas within reach is good. however when you have to use an extension it puts the button out of reach, so you have to lower the handle down to load...and stop the pump. The pump puts out more paint than you can roll, which is where you get the dripping from the roller. As for walls it does a good job, provided you get the synchronizing of pressing the button to start, and stop before the pump over loads the roller with paint. The roller has holes in it to allow the paint to get to the nap. too much paint and the nap starts dripping. this is why you really can't do ceilings with it. By the time you lower it down to turn the pump off it's now full and dripping. For walls it's OK. provided you get the synchronizing of teh button start/stop down, otherwise you'll be dripping paint. the unit comes with a 3/8 nap roller which is fine for most jobs. be sure to add the recommended vaseline to the rubber seal on the roller to avoid (not eliminate) leaks. Clean up wasn't really that bad. i cycled through warm soapy water, and removed the roller and hand washed. I decided agsint painting in the rooms as the dripping was a bit much. I'd be Ok with exterior painting as long as it was only as high as a small extension would reach.
