  • Works exactly as advertised for SDG&E meter
I had solar panels installed recently and was disappointed that my service panel box was not compatible with the consumption monitoring clamps provided by the microinverter manufacturer. I picked up this affordable device and am pleased to find it can give my realtime net metering energy import or export figures, nicely visualized within the same app I use for the very nice Emporia EV charger I previously purchased. It's not as convenient as having consumption data integrated with the solar production data in one place, but it's the best I can do with my hardware. I can export data from those two systems and review it combined offline when I really need to geek out. ... show more

  • Works Like a Champ!
We use West Penn Power which is a FirstEnergy Corp subsidiary and provisioning is done through Honeywell. Submission process only involved a form, which I filled out electronically to avoid handwriting illegibility issues, and included a picture of the device ID, MAC. If you submit through FirstEnergy, know that it takes 4-6 business days for Honeywell to enter your information then they send it over to the power company for smart meter provisioning, which is another 1-2 days. I ended up calling Honeywell and the power company to nudge it along but it began logging this AM and it works. The functionality is exactly what I had been looking for: I can see the wattage, amperage, and even $/kWh for both low and high stages of my heat pump, ECM air handler, water well pump, dehumidifiers...I already love it. More features are said to be coming through the app but I can deduce appliances right now with exactly the level of detail I wanted. I will be installing transformer clamps onto certain circuits later to narrowly monitor specific devices but this is a great wholistic view of the house straight from the same source the power company uses for our bill: the smart meter. ... show more

  • Easy to install, easy to use.
I live in California, PG&E territory, smart meters have been installed here for several years. The app walks you through installing it, then a quick call to their "Stream My Data" rep and it was all hooked up and displaying energy use in about 5 minutes. I will be using this in conjunction with their other product for more granular consumption and solar reports. ... show more

  • Works well with SCE meter
The app is very nice, and the billing period can be set to the ending date of the last bill. Very accurate since it's reading the meter itself, instead of estimating with wire clamps. You can see how much power your appliances use by switching them off and on and noting the change in the real time measurements. My 75" TV was set to 100% brightness and drawing over 300 watts. I shaved off 120 watts by adjusting energy saving modes and brightness settings without affecting picture quality. So with the $25 SCE rebate, this will pay for itself in a couple months. ... show more

  • Phenomenal when it works; getting/keeping it online: TBD
The web interface from the local utility(SDG&E) didn't automagically "provision" the VUE as advertised. But after calling/emailing for assistance with HAN configuration, they were able to get the VUE streaming power consumption data within hours by manually entering its MAC ID and Install code. Online data streaming only worked for a few days, but I was able to get real power consumption numbers for things that I couldn't disconnect - overhead built-in lights, water heater, etc. The folks managing HAN from the utility side have generally responded within 24 hours; they've indicated that the problem is on their side (twice). Hoping to get this resolved soon. ... show more

  • You can monitor your power consumption
I have 21 solar panels and an electric car. I can fully charge it at home but want to control the charge rate to be at or lower than the solar panel output. With this device I can monitor and adjust instantaneously with their app. Before I had to set the charge rate then go look at the meter, make best guess adjustments and go look again, rain or shine. No more. ... show more

  • Needs firmware update for SDGE
Update to my review: I have SDGE and solar. When I first installed the system, it wasn't showing solar production, and it would show power usage as spikes. After a couple days of very slow email responses they told me the firmware needed to be updated. Once it was updated it now works great! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons: 1. Kind of lame that it didn't work out of the box, and it took several days to resolve the issue. 2. If you have a wifi access point that has rate control (such as Unifi), you ~may~ need to turn it off to get a stable connection. I'm still seeing the occasional wifi issues, but otherwise now that the firmware is updated it seems pretty stable. Original Review: I have SDGE. It was a very simple process to get it hooked up to my meter. The app seems nice. That's why I give this 2 stars instead of 1. I had 3 issues with it, each is 1 star off. 1. I have solar, and despite what it said on the website it did not work with solar, at least with SDGE. When my solar was producing more power than I was using, I could see the production getting sent into the grid directly on my meter, but the Vue would just show 0 watts. It was supposed to show my energy production in the app, but it did not. 2. When I was pulling energy from the grid, it wouldn't show the usage as constant. Instead, it would show the usage as a 40 kW spike every 2 minutes or so. As far as I could tell the hourly average was correct, but it didn't show me any kind of information as to when things turned on and off, just general information. 3. It has wifi issues. While researching my first two issues on their forums, apparently all of these devices lose wifi every 1-2 hours. When they lose wifi the app will show a flat amount of usage roughly where it thinks the power usage would be. When the wifi was working at all, I saw those flat lines, meaning even the daily measurements would be off. However, after it working fine for 16 hours, it stopped connecting to my wifi at all. It would only connect when literally right next to my router, which was way too far from the meter. In sum, I don't know if it's my meter, my utility (SDGE), my solar, or a combination, but it just did not work well for me at all. If you have a smart meter it's worth the time getting it and setting it up, maybe it will work better for you, and at $40 it's way cheaper than the ones that go in your panel. But be warned, it has a lot that can apparently go wrong with it. ... show more
