  • Not to shabby greenhouse after all
Material Type: Green PE Style: 57 x 57 x 77-Inch
I was afraid when I made this purchase because I saw a lot of advertisements saying it was gonna blow away. We had a wind storm and it was able to tolerate the storm. As a precaution, I did take it apart and bring it in. But then after the storm, I put it back outside and it’s been doing well. It’s winter where I live right now and snow has fallen, but it’s still standing. Can’t wait till the spring to get started all over again pretty sizable and easily installed. Nice size and keeps temperature for plants steady ... show more

  • Gets the job done but worth a little extra work on your part!
Material Type: Green PE Style: 57 x 57 x 77-Inch
I live in America's wind tunnel, so I was nervous about utilising this structure to house seedlings that I began in my home in late winter. These were my babies, after all. After taking some precautions, here's the pros/cons: 1. Easy to assemble. It took me about an hour. I invested an extra fifteen minutes in landing each piece with the part number (1,2, so forth) as I intend to break this down and resemble next year. Some pieces were already labeled, but to avoid frustration I reinforced that and added my own marking on each piece in two places. You'll want short zip ties (like others suggested) to secure the metal shelves to the poles. Otherwise you risk knocking off the shelves and your trays. Putting the cover on is best done with two people but it is possible with just one person and patience (and possibly a step stool). Once you get the tubes assembled, so yourself a favor and go back to check once more that they are completely pushed in together. 2. Heavy, reinforced plastic. I really didn't know what to expect here. I'm happy to report that it's much better than it could be yet still flexible and less rigid so it will hopefully last more than a season of six to eight weeks of use. I see myself getting several years out of this. Now, today we are getting 2" hail. I anticipate the hail will put holes in the plastic, but my plan is to throw a lightweight blanket over the top of it to soften the blow. If we get the hail, I'll update this post. 3. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. To be fair, my greenhouse doesn't get much wind block, and we do live in a very windy area. If I had not reinforced my greenhouse, it would no longer be standing. Here's what I did. I purchased four heavy-duty plastic spikes at my local hardware store as well as additional rope. I used the rope and little metal stakes provided but added one additional stakes at each corner. I could feel the greenhouse jiggling and shifting in the wind, so I also added a heavy paver on top of the metal tubing at the entrance and rear of the greenhouse. Finally, I lost two trays of seedlings when the vibration/ shifting caused them to fall off the shelves. I remedied this by wrapping the trays with long pieces of painter's tape that are then affixed at the corner metal poles. It should come off easily but will prevent the containers from getting "shifted" off the shelf. Overall, I'm readily pleased with my greenhouse. Yes, I put extra work and a little money into securing it, but the payoff is less worrying and less risk. Just buy it but be prepared to put a little more money and work into it. ... show more

  • Installation Tips, etc.
Material Type: Clear PVC Style: 57 x 57 x 77-Inch
1. You don't get instructions per se. You get a schematic. It's a one page sheet. However, it clearly outlines each part and what you need. Start by putting together the base (floor). Don't insert all the tubes into the connectors FULLY. Leave it a bit loose so you can put in further tubes. When finished take a rubber mallet and a piece of wood and GENTLY tab the tubes into the connectors fully. The frame will only take you a bit over 1 hour to assemble. 2. Put together the entire frame first. Leave the plastic cover alone for the time being. 3. Carefully think about where to position the unit. Think about sun and wind, and seasons. 2 people can easily lift the frame up and move it where you want. 4. Finally, put the plastic cover over the frame and secure it. 5. The shelves will fit over the frame section; if it doesn't seem to quite fit over it, then tap those frame section in to the their connectors and re-fit the shelves. 6. The shelves are pretty flimsy; consider placing some kind of thin wooden shelf over top of them. 7. If you can't use the tent stakes, then be sure to place some heavy material over the floor frames such as bricks or really long plant pots. 8. After a week of opening one of the zippers, it developed about a 1" tear that had to be repaired. That's not a good sign. Keep this in mind: VIVOSUN does NOT sell replacement plastic covers!! You'd have to buy a completely new greenhouse. That's really strange and poor business practice. I wish they would explain that. It's just odd as heck that you can't buy a new cover for it. Oh, well. Just beware of this fact. 9. The greenhouse does get warm if it is sunny out--even in the winter. You can put about 2 small chairs inside if you want to sit inside it in the cold. it will warm up nicely. A small heater can be used as well, but be cautious about that. It's great for plants and for humans to improve your mood during a cold, but sunny day. 10. It does stand up well to winds. I'm not sure that howling winds of 30MPH or above would be good for it, but it does hold up quite well in normal winds. Hope this helps. Good luck. If you have other questions, just ask. ... show more

  • Covering way too thin, ruined my plants and made me cry.
Material Type: Clear PVC Style: 57 x 57 x 77-Inch
I was so excited to receive this greenhouse to be able to have my herb garden all year around. My brother-in-law and his wife have this same one hand have had great success. We assembled it very quickly and easily and put my plants in there and it looked so pretty. However, the very next morning the greenhouse looked like we had a hurricane come through. It was ripped down one side and leaning, the frame broke and all my plants on that one side were dumped out. We had absolutely no wind whatsoever nor had we had any storms come through our area. This is our dry season in Georgia, not windy or rainy season. We made sure the greenhouse was level and assembled it as the directions stated. We even went a few steps further and watched a few YouTube videos and tutorials. We don't know what to do now that my plants/herbs are exposed to the elements and we're supposed to have our first frost/freeze next week. I don't want to loose my precious herbs that I've worked so hard to grow and keep all spring and summer. I'm disabled and this is one thing I am able to do and this just made me almost cry when I saw it all on the ground like that. I hope at least the company will make it right by sending me another one with a stronger plastic covering. Because this one is way too thin. ... show more
