  • Install may require some innovating on your part
Style: Standard
I like the hoist. For me it was to save space in the garage for my second kayak. It's important to note the direction of your studs before starting your install, as you may need to install a board across multiple studs if they run perpendicular to the way you want to hang something. I attached the boards with lag bolts, and in turn attached the hoist hardware to the boards I installed with the provided lag bolts. Another tip, measure the length of your item you're going to hang, as I placed my hardware a bit too close together. This becomes an issue as you reach the top, as the ropes splay apart and can make it difficult to release the rope. It still functions fine, I just have to put more effort forth for the first 20 percent of lowering before the hoist will drop as designed. It's sturdy, and it takes little effort to lift and tie it off. There is plenty of extra rope provided for those that have taller ceilings. ... show more

  • Holding the kayaks amazingly well!
Style: Standard
I added 2x4s for stabilization, it’s holding very strongly, if you can get paracords, do it, the ropes that came with it is pretty good, looked and felt strong, I just liked the paracords better. Would recommend!

  • Used to hoist 2 ladders into the garage rafters!
I used these to hoist a pair of ladders into my garage rafters, to completely get them out of the way. Took some planning on my part, some structural mods, but I am pleased with what I did! I created my own "rafters" to mount these too, to get them high into the "attic." Now that these are up, I love it! ... show more

  • Great for my bikes
Style: Standard
I use these to hang my bikes out of the way in the garage. Once you get it installed and run the line the correct way, it is very easy to use and has a sturdy locking mechanism. The only issue I had is one of the lines snapped after a couple months of use and I had to go out and buy a replacement line. It may be that the line chafed somewhere in the pulley system. Recommended. I would buy again. ... show more

  • Kayak Lift
I don't like the locking mechanism. It's a two person operation which sucks. Everytime you pull down on the rope to lift the kayak the lock engages. You have to have someone on a ladder to stop it from doing so. Not a fan of the rope. It frays when it goes through the holes. There should be softners in the holes so it does wear the rope. ... show more

  • Certainly not heavy duty
Style: Standard
One reviewer put this up in 30 minutes: either they worked for the manufacturer, had a poor sense of time, or got extremely lucky. Budget 2-3 hours minimum. The printed directions are diagrams only, so look at the pictures on Amazon to get an idea of what you are trying to do. Be prepared to put up some blocking if your ceiling joists run the wrong way or don't match up with where you need to mount your hoist. The mounting brackets have round holes on one side and square on the other so they have to match the pulley brackets; pay attention to which way the pulleys will mount before you install the ceiling brackets so you get it right. The pictures in the directions make it look like you will have a single rope to pull but you will have a loop, pulling on one or other side of the loop to lower the front or back pulley. The instructions recommend the pulleys be 90cm(3ft) apart, which is too close for a canoe or kayak or long ladder, but the cord was just long enough for hanging my canoe with the brackets 6ft apart. The pulleys and hangers add almost a foot from the ceiling, make sure you budget for this if you have a low ceiling. All in all this hoist functioned well for my 50 pound canoe. It took over 3 hours to install but I had to add blocking because the joists ran perpendicular to the mounting brackets. It would be difficult to lift a 125 pound canoe with this thin cord and single pulley system , but I don't think it would break. If you have more than 50-60 pounds consider a truly heavy duty hoist. ... show more

  • Fantastic deal for two nice kayak lifts
First I will say, the instructions that came with this were not that great. However it seems there are a lot of different people selling the same basic kit, and better instructions are available online. I actually watched a youtube video to see exactly how the rope is ran through the pulleys. Aside from that, you can't beat this price for a nice sturdy way to lift your kayaks off the ground and get them out of the way. I have two 14ft kayaks and these lifts handle them with ease. This kit includes the pulleys, mounts, ropes, and even the strap that goes around the kayaks for lifting. One addition I made was after everything was installed, I ran a single piece of rope between the two separate hooks at the ends of the kayak, so that when I lift my kayaks, the loops that go around the boats don't start slipping toward the ends of the boats. ... show more

  • Handy for storage
I used this to store my cartop carrier when not in use. I have tall ceilings in my garage and it works great for me. It would be a problem if I had low ceilings, there is a few inches of hang above the carrier. I placed the mounts above a parking space in the garage and I can drive the car under and lower onto the rails, then slip the straps off and tighten in place and go. Then when I’m done using the carrier I pull in under the mounts and undo the clamps, put the straps around the carrier and lift and I’m done. Soooo much easier than having to drag the carrier out of a corner and put it up on top of the car every time I wanted to use it. The lock holds fine, but I wrap the rope around a wall hook to keep it out of the way and just in case it slips. Getting the lock to release when lowering requires an alternating between the two ropes to hold the lock open. Great buy! ... show more
