I absolutely love this immersion blender by Vitamix! It has some weight to it and seems very well made, out of metal, not plastic. It has great features. It works so well to make homemade tomato soup, right in the pot. No more having to transfer to a blender. It works great for making smoothies with the Vitamix container (sold separately) as the lip around the top prevents splashes. I also bought the mini chopper attachment which works great for onions and all sorts of other vegetables. The beater that comes with it works well for beating eggs and all sorts of other things. This is such a great addition to my kitchen. I hope they make more attachments. ... show more

I’ve used a few immersion blenders over the years, and this one from Vitamix stands out for its power and build quality. It feels sturdy in the hand and has a nice weight to it—not too heavy, but solid enough that it doesn’t feel cheap. The motor is strong and blends things quickly and evenly without struggling. The 3-piece set is really convenient. I use the blending jar all the time for smoothies and sauces—it’s the perfect size for small batches, and cleanup is easy. The blade guard is also well-designed; it doesn’t scratch up my pots when I'm blending soups directly in them. Overall, it’s clear this was made with care. This is the kind of thing you wonder if you need until you get it and find a million different uses you never had thought of until you purchased it. For example, soup -- you can puree just about anything into a soup with this in seconds, hot or cold. Make homemade mayo in a jiffy -- nothing else whips it up quite like this. Even meringue, egg whites in cocktails, whipped cream. Amazingly enough it can handle very heavy duty jobs like making nut butters, and grinding up dried fruits to add to breads and cakes. Solid, good construction, and good ergonomic design without a cumbersome interlock like many are adding these days. No frills, but does what it does extremely well. I anticipate this product will last for many years. I tried a couple other top brand immersion blenders to replace my 15-yo one but they had one issue or another so I returned them. Took a chance on this higher price blender but glad I did. Bought the separate mini-chopper too for the set. ... show more

    • Exceeded expectations. Powerful.
I regret that I did not buy this sooner. I wanted a handheld blender to replace my heavy duty counter top blender, but wasn't sure a handheld blender could handle the task. I make protein smoothies daily. My smoothies are the consistency of slushies: starting with frozen fruit and heavy on ice cubes. After hours of reading many technical comparisons (Good Housekeeping, NY Times, Serious Eats, etc.), many customers' reviews, and watching videos; I chose the Vitamix. The Vitamix was one of three that made almost every list, Vitamix usually being first or second. Big concern was could it handle ice cubes. I contacted tech support to ask that important question. The first company (one of the other top rated brands) replied that their handheld blender was not made to handle ice. When I asked tech support from Vitamix, they almost laughed. Now I know why. The Vitamix blasts ice cubes to smoothie texture in seconds. It does not even slow down. Also, Vitamix has a four-blade design compared to two blades for most other handheld blenders. Clean up with the Vitamix is a breeze. Stick the business end in a glass of water with a squirt of detergent, turn it on for a few seconds, rinse and done. It also freed up a lot of space on my kitchen counter. Caution: It is heavy. The women in the videos made it look easy, but my wife who is 77 has some difficulty. However, after some practice, she has been able to use it by holding it with both hands. I don't recommend it for use by children. Also, the Vitamix is powerful enough to require some practice to get used to handling it. Recommendation: I bought some stainless steel tumblers that are large enough to make my smoothie right in my drinking container, eliminating another step. ... show more

    • OK So Far But Not Perfect
Even though there are cheaper units on Amazon, I spent the money on the Vitamix banking on longevity and reliability. I don't want a blender that dies in a month. My use will be light duty two times every day for a cottage cheese mix with flax seed oil so no thick mixing will be performed. I've been using it for a week and the only concern is the vibration with the blender attachment connected under no load. Running the motor without the attachment is butter smooth and whisper quiet so this gives me concern about the attachment longevity. The claimed wattage is 625W which equates to over 3/4 horsepower. This rating is ridiculously overrated. There's no way this is 625 watts in real life but it's adequate for what I need it for. I was also disappointed to find this mixer IS made in China so I'll report back, good or bad. ... show more
