This completely blew away my expectations. I'll admit, I had no idea how this thing would actually work—I figured you'd put on the goggles, look at the book, and maybe see some wonky 3D effects. Boy, was I wrong. The execution is brilliant: you download their top-rated app, slide your smartphone into the front of the VR goggles (there's actually a product image showing this, though I missed it initially), and suddenly you're racing cars and flying WWII planes. The VR experiences are genuinely immersive, not the gimmicky afterthoughts you might expect from an educational product. But here's what surprised me most—I found myself just flipping through the book without the goggles and getting completely absorbed. The production quality is that impressive. High-quality printing, engaging illustrations, and content that's genuinely interesting whether you're 8 or 80. It's the kind of book that makes you forget it's supposed to be "educational" because you're too busy being entertained. The VR goggles are substantial and well-made—definitely not the flimsy cardboard contraptions I was half-expecting. Even the wooden puzzle is solid and satisfying to assemble. Here's my one gripe: finding the activation code turned into a treasure hunt. The app confidently tells you it's "under the goggles in the box," but it's actually printed on the back of the puzzle instructions. I searched everywhere before stumbling across it there. Either the app needs updating or they need clearer labeling. Just make sure your recipient has access to a smartphone—this won't work with grandma's flip phone. I wish there was one free sample experience to try without burning the activation code, especially for gift-givers wanting to test it first. I'm already excited to order more adventures from this series. When educational technology delivers this level of quality and genuine engagement, it's worth celebrating.

There are a ton of "Abacus Brands" apps in the Google Play store (Android user here), but I cannot find the app for this book. The book looks great, but there's so much interactive material, and that's why you get this set. All the Abacus Brands VR apps in the store also have low ratings, so I'm not very hopeful my son will get any use from this - it sounds like so many users are frustrated with their app experience. It's too bad, too, because the book looks great.

I would give this a 5 star, the app has been trying to download for at least 2 days already and it's still not done yet. I know it's a big file, which is also a deterrent to download the app onto the phone due to space.

The book is great. The VR system is ok. How good the VR experience is will depend entirely on how good your phone is since it uses their app. Honestly, the book alone is worth it and is great for young curious engineering minds.

This VR Discovery Box was the first "toy" I ordered this summer vacation and it has become a favorite one in our home! Both my 7yr and 12 yr old boys love it. Don't expect Oculus type experience but this serves the dual purpose of education and entertainment. The book is loaded with great visuals and easy to understand text. It is good learning for adults too. The included VR viewer is easy to use although a little big for my younger one. I wished they had included a few more of the 3D wooden puzzle instead of just one. Overall, very happy with this one. Highly recommend it. And anything which keeps the kids away from phones and tablets and video games always gets my highest recommendation!

This VR Discovery Box is such a fun and educational experience for kids! Once we downloaded the app and entered the code, everything worked smoothly. The setup was simple—just install the app, unlock the content, and insert an iPhone into the included VR goggles. The app is hands-free, and the animated videos are incredibly vivid and engaging, appearing right in front of your eyes. It really brings the content to life in an exciting way! The only thing to note is that the goggles can feel a bit heavy for younger kids, especially when using a heavier phone like an iPhone.
