  • Amazing flute for the money
Color: KEY C
The media could not be loaded. This is so fun! I’ve never tried playing flute before so I’m essentially a beginner to blowhole instruments. This is a perfect instrument for the cost. And it is a low cost! I only just started yesterday so I’m sure with more practice it could sound better. I try to do 2 octaves in the video. The dimo makes all the difference. It sounds better and is easier to produce a tone. The design quality looks like a high quality hand made instrument. The carvings are laser etched then painted. It’s coated in a clear coat and the ends are acrylic or something. ... show more

  • Hard to learn but sounds great when you do
Color: KEY E
Really good flute, great quality but if you’re like me and have never touched a flute before keep reading cause this may help. I got this cause I wanted to learn the flute but wanted to get something cheaper than a western flute, that being said it took me 2 days just to figure out how to get it to make a decent sound, so keep that in mind. I highly suggest for anyone learning this instrument for the first time to use tape instead of the membrane it gives you, it made it a little easier for me at least. I also suggest looking at YouTube videos of people showing you how to play or even videos of people playing them and examine their posture and such. ... show more

  • A playable wall-hanger : )
Color: KEY C
I admit I bought this primarily as a wall-hanging decoration because of its very low price and attractive appearance-- and in this I am not disappointed. I ordered the 'C' flute, which measures 25 1/4 inches long and and 1 1/16 inch outer diameter... 2 inches longer than the advertised size. It comes with ALL the trimmings: two-part jointed (tunable, I highly recommend a light coating of mineral oil on the joint), a very nice looking red knot-tassel decoration, dimo membrane with glue and a vinyl aperture guard. I ignored the membrane and used clear tape over the dimo hole (for beginners: that hole must be covered for the flute to be playable). I put all the extras in a drawer and set the flute on my flute collection display (I own a few flutes, as I build them by hand as a hobby). It has attractive Chinese lettering on the front-- which I have no idea what it says (probably something like: This American bought this flute and doesn't even know what this says). ;D This isn't your typical tiny 'piccolo' Dizi. It is a significantly large flute-- which being a Dizi is still an octave higher compared to Celtic flutes of this size (Dizi's are by nature higher-pitched due to their smaller inner diameter). As a display piece, it's gorgeous and well worth the price on that alone. (To be honest, any more expensive and I probably wouldn't have bought it. The price of 18 bucks hooked me.) I did drop it a star for NO INSTRUCTIONS. A Dizi pretty much requires instructions if one is a beginner. My suggested instruction: feel free to use clear tape instead of the membrane; a lot of people do on inexpensive flutes for simple convenience. We're not playing in a concert hall. To the manufacturer: include instructions! It's one sheet of paper. ;D PLAYING: I was expecting it to be 'reasonably' playable... and it is. It took me very little time to adjust to the aperture and finger spacing, after which I was pleased to produce reasonable sound all the way up and down the scale. Of course this isn't professional flute, and doesn't have the vibrant, reverberating tone and ease of play one would find in a $300 Dizi... nor should it be expected to. I had to work to reach some of the notes but still got decent tone out of each note. No note failed... which at this price range is saying something. A flute like this can be both good and bad for beginners. Good because it gives a starting point at a cheap price... and if they learn to play this then they'll do great on a quality flute. Bad because it's admittedly more difficult to play than a quality flute. Still, it played to my personal satisfaction (since I build flutes, I tend to be critical when it comes to tone and playability). So it passes my 'acceptable' test... by a nose. Summary: I'm pleased with the purchase. I don't know how it will hold up over time, if the bamboo will crack (I won't know about that for a year or three from now. It is air-dried rather than time-dried, so we will see)... but the artificial horn ends are very nice looking, the bamboo is a pleasant color, the joint fits perfectly (again, use a little mineral oil), and it is pretty pretty pretty. The fact that it actually plays is icing on the cake. ;D ... show more

  • Perfect tone if you are looking for authentic dizi sound.
Color: KEY D
The media could not be loaded. There were no issues whatsoever with this flute. Being my fourth dizi, something was off with my other two, the first one of the three having gotten broken in an accident. With the other two, I could not get that sweet song song sound no matter what I did embrochure, dimo, tuning the flute by the ring. Nothing. I literally just got this 5 minutes ago cut a new dimo and played it. I'll play a short piece for you now. I mean no disrespect by my next statements, but, I read a few bad reviews on this product after I ordered it and was excited to get it because it fairly well confirms my wonder, if those people either don't know what it is supposed to sound like or don't like the sound. The tuning of the holes on the flute I got is absolutely perfect. I am very grateful to have found this flute and I will be ordering more from them in the near future, I love my new dizi. And for the record I'm a 40 year old white marine vet. So if I can get this thing to sing so can you just practice the peace the dizi can bring is powerful, do your research on it and love your new friend it will love you back. A few tips. Let the glue soak in water for like half a minute before rubbing it around the dimo hole then apply the dimo watch some videos YouTube too. Listen to it and tune your ear to the sound ... show more

  • Dont get it. Trust me.
Color: KEY D
This thing sounds and feels cheaply made. I've heard plastic kid flutes sound better than this. It comes with no instructions. Dont let the fake reviews say its good because its not. The membrane constantly falls off and you only get 2. Not worth your money. Its better to get one at an actual instrument store. ... show more

  • AMAZING ONCE YOU COVER 2ND HOLE WITH TAPE!
Color: KEY D
Beautiful piece! Unreal for the price. For a beginner use tape over dizi hole (2nd) hole. YOU MUST COVER HOLE TO GET SOUND. Using real stuff they sent is awesome, but not until you can get sound out of the whole thing. Watch few YouTube videos on it and practice blowing like you would a bottle of water. Took me a minute but now I want one of each key. Great for hiking etc. Low weight, beautiful, and cheap enough you can give it to kids or beat it up. Then come back and rebuy to support this great product. Wait to buy nicer pieces till you love it. Great for kids to learn. So thrilled now i know the tape trick, packing works great, then scotch for more resonance sound. 💓💞💓🌬 ... show more

  • Entry level
Color: KEY C
Good purchase for the price to check out the capabilities of a dizi. Comes with the dimo and what you need to apply it and a membrane cover. Quality feels solid and not super cheap. Can play two octaves. Can't quite get some of the higher notes but note holes seem to be tuned properly so may be a player issue. Would not recommend the lower tuned dizi for someone with smaller hands, finger holes are big and further apart. ... show more
