I am a complete newcomer to welding, and I did not expect to find a kit this nice for someone like me. When I cobble together things for my shop, I have always managed to get by with drilling holes and attaching pieces of metal together using rivets, or nuts and bolts. The thought of welding things instead just never seemed to catch on with me until now. Rather than jump in head-first, I have a friend who can guide me on the basics. I can also access lots of online video tutorials. In the beginning, I want someone to talk me through the process. Everything included in this kit looks good except for the welding mask. To someone new to this like me, it feels thin and a little flimsy, being that it is made from relatively thin, and slightly flexible plastic. It also leaves your neck unprotected, so welding safety gear is really needed in addition to this. I may be mistaken, but I do not expect the welding mask to hold up very well to spatter that might fly back in my face. I will be investing in a more appropriate (at least in my mind) welding mask. The provided instruction manual offers many safety related precautions which really are required reading for the beginner. It also covers routine inspection and troubleshooting tips. Unfortunately, it does not go into details on materials that it can weld, thickness limitations, or really any instructions for welding. It apparently assumes that you already know these things. As far as the value of this kit is concerned, yes, it is a great value for the price. It is a very basic beginner’s welder that will get small jobs done. And with tutoring from my friends, I will be better able to fabricate more things for my shop.

I am a novice at both topic and task when it comes to any form of welding. I do have a 220V line into my workshop for a welder, but do not want to begin developing my knowledge and skills at that level of investment and risk. Thus, I obtained this to help me develop my Knowledge and skills. That is the entry cost and risk (though there) are both manageable. Because I am not familiar with welding, I asked a good friend who has welding experience to examine the literature on this MIG welder and give me his opinion. He said he was impressed with the features and functions. According to him, all the important ones are there. He was surprised that there was a ‘Lift Tig’ welding option. He was impressed with the size of the digital display and the fact that safety materials (e.g., welders gloves, face shield, and light-adjusting glasses that snap into the face shield) came with the unit. I am writing this cautiously, because I have not yet had the opportunity to weld anything and test the machine. However, even if I had, the value of my limited experience could not match that of an individual whose welding experience far exceeds mine in years and application. There are two items that appear to be barely functional. First the wire brush. With few bristles, it seems to be insufficient for the long-term and might not be effective even in the short term. Second is the face shield. It appears to be too thin and flimsy to be effective. To use the face shield, you need to snap the auto-darkening glasses to it and then attach an elastic strap to the two temples on the eye glasses. After you slip it over your head, you can adjust it as needed. (I did not expect that to be satisfactory. So, before I begin learning how to use this properly, I will purchase a better face shield. I’ve seen some that appear to be very good for less than $50.)

Very impressive little Welder for the price. Great for hobby use, or if you are just interested or curious about getting into welding. I would say the best thing about this welder, aside from the price, is that it only requires a standard wall outlet to run. Based on that, you can correctly assume it is not an extremely powerful machine, so you are limited to shorter usage and thinner materials, however for the average hobbyist who just n needs a little weld here or there, this is perfect and affordable. I ran it on an extension cord from a 110v wall outlet and had zero problems. It is extremely easy to setup and start using, with good instructions included. It is pretty well built as well. It also allows for a variety of welding types, stick, mig and lift tig, though for the tig you would need to purchase a tig gun in addition. The machine comes with some basics, welding gloves and goggles with a face shield. The gloves are OK for what this machine is capable of, though i would recommend better eye protection personally. The goggles were extremely uncomfortable, and that is not something you want when welding. You want to be as comfortable as possible. I only ran a few stich welds with the included spool of wire, and the results were on par for gasless. A little splatter, but a decent weld. Worth the price!
