  • More relevant today than ever... a cinematic tour de force!
Where to start? How about the beginning with Fred "The Hammer" Williamson laying out some inconvenient truths... this movie hooks you in and doesn't let go till the stand up and cheer ending. Robert Forster plays a Joe Sixpack everyman that gets pushed to the edge from street crime to a revolving door justice system that puts him in jail and releases criminals with a pat on the head (like i said... ahead of its time). The cast has some of the best character actors ever seen from New York Salsa King Willy Colon to New York Hells Angels President Sandy Alexander to Joseph "Long Shoe Charlie Murphy" Carberry, Richard Bright, a drunken Joe Spinell... these guys bring the authenticity. The Hammer brings a barely controlled fury that is palpable and he is terrifying as he toys with the street punks before dispatching them brutally. Gritty, unflinching and a postcard of late 70s New York... this movie is Ay Oh Cee's greatest nightmare! Enjoy the bad guys getting blown up, beaten, shot and clubbed by some righteous dudes without being lectured on how you aren't woke enough... soy based life forms can consider this a trigger warning. ... show more

  • So-so for vigilante sympathy, horrible as a film.
Poorly produced, poorly written, poorly acted, poor edited, lacking in every way except one. It will somewhat satisfy the inner vigilante of those who wish the criminal justice system actually provided justice. Carol Lynley, normally attractive, was not believable as an ADA. Robert Forester was weak Fred Williamson was okay. Sad that there was no justice for the smarmy defense attorney that helped the judge conspire in favor of the criminal. If your inner vigilante needs a fix, this will provide some, but not with any real satisfaction. As a crime drama or art, it is one-star at best. ... show more

  • "Good Vigilante Film!"
I won't spoil this on everyone who hasn't still seen this. Trust me it's definitely a excellent vigilante film probably next to Death Wish from Charles Bronson and a blaxploitation actor from Fred "The Hammer" Williamson. And Robert Forster (Emergency!) had a good role. I think they make a lot of these type of films in 80's because the system failed to give families justice from a loss. Justice is blind and it still is to this day. There are a lot crook judges and juries. And some police officers are too. Great film. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good
I was suprised how much i liked it. I think it was good. I think Fred Williamson was very good and the best character in the film. He got charisma. He had several lines in the film which i liked. When he said "Save some for me, Burke", i couldn`t help but to smile. I must say i liked that dark Synthesizer music that was used to great effect. This was a good purchase. Picture Quality: 4.5/5 I was impressed with the picture quality, which i think was pretty sharp and detailed. The colours and such looked clear and strong on my flat screen. I satisfied with it. I didn`t notice any use of noise reduction, which i was glad i didn`t see. Audio Quality: 4/5 I was less impressed by the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. I think the some of the gunshot effects could have had more bass. Like for example when Fred used a shotgun. It didn`t have a lot of bass. Strange thing, when he used a somekind of Revolver, it had more bass than that shotgun!. Hm. Also one other problem i had with this audio track, was that i feel the music was mixed too loud and the dialog too low. I often had to turn the volume down when i heard the music. When there was dialog scenes i had to turn the volume up. I think people doing this remix should have corrected these problems. I did find it annoying. The music sounded pretty good and clear in the Center speaker. I heard some good bass coming from my subwoofer when the Synthesizer music was used. The Rear speakers was mostly used for good effect, like for example, i heard: of course music there, gunshots, people in prison shouting and cars crashing. So, i think the people in charge of making this audio track could have done a better job. Except for the problems i mentioned, i think it was good, but not very good. Film: 4/5 Overall: 4/5 ... show more

  • Gritty, Brutal Film in the Vein of Death Wish
Released in 1982, this film certainly takes a bleak and pessimistic tone towards rampant crime and law enforcement's lack of effectiveness in modern-day America. Its very similar to "Death Wish" in tone and follows the plot of that film in many ways. Its about a small group of vigilantes who take the law into their own hands and exact extreme punishment on the criminals terrorizing their neighborhood. When one of their friends loses his wife and child at the hands of a group of thugs, he enlists their help in getting revenge after the courts fair to punish the punks for destroying his life and family. The criminals are suitably nasty and deserve the punishment that they get as they find themselves victimized by the gang of vigilantes. There is a lost of violence and gore as you would expect from a film directed by William Lustig. Plus, it stars the totally superbad Fred Williamson who plays one of the vigilantes. I give it four stars because it is certainly a good film but overall lacks the punch and originality of "Death Wish". ... show more

  • 35 ratio and a tad better than the DVD but I highly doubt anyone will ...
Blu-Ray Review: Blue underground version. This Blu Ray comes with 2 audio commentaries, trailers, radio spots BLAH BLAH BLAH!! The picture quality is in 2:35 ratio and a tad better than the DVD but I highly doubt anyone will even notice. Movie Review: This film is about vigilantism but more about a family man who seeks vengeance against some annoying retards for killing his kid and mutilating his wife's boobies. This is an excellent vigilante movie but it's nowhere near as good as Death Wish but still provides some great acting, blooding violence and a good story. Yippy. Conclusion: 4 stars for the Blu Ray and 4 1/2 for Vigilante. ... show more
