  • Great multi functional unit for the price.
Color: Black Style: Record Player
We bought this for LP records and it's bluetooth connectivity although it has great sound with additional speakers. For a multifunctional device, this is GREAT for the price. It has CD Cassette LP 33/45/ 78 Records and USB capabilities. Great sound and the needle is heavy enough to miss some of those scratches and skips. The lid closes while your record is in play or has a great hinge to keep it open if desired. We paired this with a budget friendly set of surround sound speakers and it easily paired via bluetooth. The cabinet is wood (we chose black) and it's got a great retro/chrome look to it. Really classy and solid. The size is nice because it's not huge but big enough to be a statement piece. Quality seems great so far. Also in the set-up directions...WHEN UNPACKING...BE PATIENT WITH THE SCREW TO HOLD THE TURNTABLE IN PLACE DURING SHIPPING. It is very hard to remove and frustrating and it's in the back top which is hard to reach and unscrew. When it finally releases, it feels like you have broken the machine. You more than likely have not. It comes with a handy remote. You can connect additional speakers via RCA cables or bluetooth. You can also use this VICTROLA as a bluetooth speaker from your phone or desktop/PC/laptop. Great for beginners or those with multiple types of music media (ie: old people like who want an easy machine to play ALL their favorite music from the last 4-6 decades). Definitely recommend! ... show more

  • It works with linux!
Color: Espresso Style: Record Player
I got a few things to say about this "record player". It's also plays: * MP3s from USB drive * FM Radio * CDs * Streaming from bluetooth * Anything that can plug into AUX * Cassette tapes * 1 other thing I can not remember right now. Recording to PC is easy. 1. Turn on your computer. (Skip this step if it is already on) 2. Turn on the Victrola 8-in-1. (Skip this step if it is already on) 3. Plug in a simple-no-nonsense USB-A to USB-B cable (If you only have USB-C ports, you will need an adapter) to your computer. (Skip this step if you have already plugged in the cable) 4. Plug the other end of the cable to the back of the Victrola 8-in-1. (Skip this step if you have already plugged in the cable) 5. Lauch the audacity program (You can download this from audacityteam.org) or if you prefer another recording program you can use that. Personally I have been using audacity since the early 2000's so it came about about the same time that records got popular and therefor it is in my opinion the best software to use for recording records and cassette tapes) 6. Select which source you want to record from. There are many options: * Record player * Cassette player * FM Radio * Possibly other sources (although I do not know why you would want to record what is streaming from your mobile device, USB / MP3, or CDs as those formats are already probably on your computer except for perhaps the CD but it is easier to copy a CD using your computer's CD drive, unless you do not have one, then this seems like a viable alternative although I have not done so myself so I can not guarantee it. In fact I don't guarantee anything, I did not invent, produce, market, and sell the Victrola 8-in-1, all guarantees must be made by the aforementioned entities and I take no responsibility) 6. Hit record on your computer. 7. Play the soutce material as described in the manual. 8. When the song or whatever is finished, press stop on your computer. 9. Stop the playback from the source. 10. It is now time to export your audio. Go to the file menu, and choose "export audio" 11. Save it as either MP3, OGG, or WAV format. OGG is a good lossless compression, MP3 sounds pretty good but is lossy. WAV uses no compression, so it is a larger file, but has perfect sound quality. This is a good option if you do not want todeal with lossy compression but do not have the ability to play ogg vorbis files for some reason. And that's it! Make sure you select the appropriate device for your audio in, it will show up as a digital SPDIF device. Also this might not work if your computer is too old or does not have USB ports of any kind. Pros: * Adequate sound quality. 4/5 stars * Record any format to any other format that your computer can play * Looks great * Bluetooth has great range * Compatible with the linux operating system, although not mentioned in the manual Cons: * Cassette player is not great, they could have put a player with proper play, rewind, fast forwar, and pause buttons. Instead you stick the tape in and you can only play or fast forward, you have to flip the tape over to reqind. There is only one putton, so you push the tape all the way in to play, then push the button half way to fast forward, then push the button all the way in to eject, then push the tape back in to play. * There is not support for external speakers. In may cases this is fine because the internal spearkers are pretty good. But if you wanted to have more speakers you can not easilly do this, you would have to hook the headphones up to a seperate amplifier which defeats the purpose of having a single unit, and will turn off the built in speakers. You could also open it up and hack the main board to add additional speakers, but this will VOID YOUR WARRANTY. * it was slightly too big to fit on my record player cabinet so I had to get a different record player cabinet that was slightly larger. This turned out to be a good thing in the end because it can hold more records, but it was very dissapointing at first but still not bad enough to leave a bad review. Overall I give this a 4.6 star review, I put it in as 5 stars because that was the closest I could get to 4.6 ... show more

  • Great sound and performance but remote a bit quirky.
Color: Mahogany Style: Record Player
I needed a compact all-in-one sound system for my living room to put atop a new bookcase. This Victrola 8-in-1 delivered just fine. It contains a record player, CD player, cassette player, FM radio (no AM in mine though some models come with it), Bluetooth connectivity and the capability to record off your Cd's or USB. At only 13 pounds it stands on my bookcase without any fear of damaging it and it looks beautiful - the woodwork is outstanding in my opinion. This is what a retro sound system should look like. But the real factor is the sound and functionality. First the sound. The sound from all sources is great overall, but I would have hoped for for bass or at least a treble-bass knob to customize the sound so what what you hear is what you get. The bass is not bad by any means but if onw wants more in this area perhaps get external speakers to boost the sound. For my purposes in the room it's in I am satisfied. Note however that the unit comes with a wire antenna and not a metal telescoping one. You will have to adjust the placement to get the best sound. Now to the remote. it is a bit quirky and here's why. For starters there is no On/Off button on it - you must turn the unit on manually with the power button on the front left. Then after you turn the system on, you must wait a second or two for it to power on before you select what mode you want to listen to. This also applies even when the unit is turned on and you want to switch from one mode to the other. You just have to let the unit breathe so to speak before each function is enabled. Not a big deal to me but you should all know this. Please note that the buttons on the remote are duplicated on the front of the system so you have a choice of how to make it work The remote also has the usual controls for volume and CD function ( FF, reverse, track, pause, mute). The record player functions just fine - just read the directions first. There is a grip to hold the tonearm in place when not in use - please use this. Also, the tonearm is manual and not automatic so be aware of when the side ends to lift the arm and put it back in the cradle. The stylus seems OK and does not to damage to the records as some have said but I will keep an eye out for this. The CD player has a tray for the CD which works fine and seems sturdy but if using the remote to get the tray out you must point it directly in front of the tray for it to come out. There is also an eject button in the right front of the unit for this purpose. CDs sound fine. The radio also sounds great - just know that when you turn it on it will sound at the highest volume level so be prepared. Depending on your reception you may need to adjust the placement of the wire antenna. You decide whether you just move it curled up or whether to unravel it. You should know that you cannot change stations with the remote. You must use the dial in front of the unit for this. Some may not mind this but others may. I just listen to one FM station most of the time so no big deal for me. Again there is no AM on my model. Bluetooth connectivity is quick and easy with excellent sound quality. The manual says the Bluetooth operates a 30 foot distance from the unit but I have not tried this so I cannot say for sure. As for the cassette player I have not tried it so cannot comment on its functionality. I did not buy this system because of the cassette player so that was not am issue for me. So to sum up the Victrola 8-in-1 is great unit for the price. The remote will take a little getting used to but should not be a deal breaker. The sound and functionality are just fine for an average size apartment - I can hear it playing clearly from the back of the apartment. So I would say go for it - you should be fine with this unit. And it looks great too. ... show more
