  • Not optimum for cymbals, but great for toms
Style: Wood Tip Size: 5A
Up front: if you are looking for mallets that you will mainly use on cymbals I recommend the Zildjian model that has yarn heads. I purchased these because there a few songs in my band's setlist that require mallets (the most prominent one is Blue Bayou.) My toms are configured with Remo Coated Ambassadors, and the small, dense heads on these mallets give a nice tone when the toms are tuned medium high. Perfect for the songs that I perform. The beater heads on the mallets seem sturdy enough, but since I am using them for four songs, and am not gigging much these days I cannot be specific regarding longevity. Having a dual purpose mallet that can be flipped and used as a stick is a nice touch, but frankly not a feature that I much use. I am adept at switching between mallets and sticks, so it's moot. However, while the "handles" are thicker than I would use for drumsticks, they are pretty thin when compared to other mallets. Factor that into your decision. The feature that drew me to these mallets, and why I personally rated them so highly, is the small, dense beater heads and the tone I get from them. Very staccato, but you can still control the dynamics. ... show more

  • I like them.
Style: Wood Tip Size: 5A
I was looking for the old swizzle sticks with the felt ball stuck on the butt end of the stick. These are a little different design. It's a 5a with the felt added extending past the butt of the stick. The felt is like a general timpani mallet but smaller diameter. They are really good for tom and cymbal rolls, timpani too. The stick end is a normal 5a. It's good for really quick changes. But, like all combination sticks, the balance is odd. I prefer the Peter Erskine model tips on cymbals. It would be really nice if Vic Firth would make a Duo model out of those. And maybe figure out a way to balance it like a normal stick, that's always been my problem with combo sticks. I'd also like to try a duo with wire brushes and soft mallets. I still give 5 stars. I use them for musical theater. Toms, cymbals, timpani, electronic pads to minimize pad sound. ... show more

  • Great alternative sounds for your kit
Style: Wood Tip Size: 5A
Play like regular sticks... The mallets are pretty dense but they work well in church. I am able to get more volume from toms and roll on the cymbals.... I use these all the time.

  • Hope the felt stays on, overall great stick!
Style: Wood Tip Size: 5A
Love them. The added weight does not make the regular side feel out of balance. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the felt part feels like it could fall off, I think the construction is a good idea, seems like the wood is a single piece, including the ball shape of the mallet, with a piece of felt glued or sewed onto the wooden ball. Its a good idea, but the felt does not seem like its attached well. I had promark sticks with mallets on the end. Their design was different, the mallet head was screwed on to the stick, but I don't like the promark feel, the sticks are so top heavy, better for heavy hitters I suppose. Overall a great desgin! Swells and toms sound fantastic, mellows out the snare. good prices too! ... show more

  • Great.
Style: Wood Tip Size: -inch
I am not really a drummer, so I had no stick allegiance when I recently purchased a Yamaha DTX520 electronic drum kit to do some home recording. I tried several types of sticks more or less at random, including some (the Zildjian Trigger stick) specifically recommended for electronic drums. Once I tried the Vic Firth eStick, I put away all the others and ordered three more pair. The sticks are light and feel very fast, but are substantial enough for heavier playing. Either because of their weight of flexibility, they seem to reduce the shock of playing on relatively unyielding pads, and are very comfortable to use. I am completely satisfied with them and won't be trying any other stick unless these are discontinued (which, unfortunately, tends to happen with products I like). ... show more

  • Son loves them
Style: Wood Tip Size: -inch
My 10 year old son loves these sticks for his Alesia Nitro Mesh Kit. I’ve used them a little bit also, and agree that they feel much better on the mesh heads. Not a giant difference, but enough that I’d buy them again. They’re much lighter and rebound better than standard sticks. I also feel like my son(and myself) are less prone to damaging the mesh heads with these as they are lighter. ... show more

  • Awesome stick/mallets
Style: Wood Tip Size: 5A
I just recently started playing drums and these mallets are really nice. Allows me to drum with one side and create awesome sounding symbol effects with the mallets! Definitely recommended for those drummers that want something different!
