My downstairs neighbors probably didn't enjoy this...but we had a blast hammering away our shelves to get them together. Sturdy metal, sound construction. And overall - a GREAT buy. I bought this brand because it seemed to be the best value for a storage shelf. The Item arrived damaged on all 4 corners of the packaging, so all of the press board wooden shelves the corners were broken. This is because they used FedEx who damages every single package I receive, So not really a seller fault, just a horrible delivery company. I contacted Amazon and provided them with pictures, and they gave me a partial refund due to the damages. So, I kept the shelf and assembled it knowing I would likely need to replace at least a few of the wooden boards. The shelf goes together fairly easy, but the included mallet is a child's toy and basically useless. So, I used a real mallet and problem solved. The included gloves are also a joke, I felt like OJ Simpson trying these on. If the glove doesn't fit, use it for padding when hitting the shelf parts with a mallet so you don't damage the paint, or something like that. Overall, this is a decent storage shelf. The hammer and gloves are useless, but the shelf itself is good. If they packaged a little heavier duty or used a shipping company that wasn't worthless there would be no problem. ... show more

It’s actually heavy-drop-it-on-your-foot-hospital-trip-heavy metal. The boards are fine they’re just thin slabs to lay on top of the metal frame. If you don’t like them you could totally have a different wood cut at like Home Depot or somewhere to use instead. I greatly enjoy that these are the type of shelves that Durant require you to disassemble the whole thing just to move one shelf. If it’s a notch too high no worries you can just use the included mallet to move it down one so it suits your needs. We use it for misc and my husband army stuff. ... show more

The boards that come on here that you're supposed to sit your things on is just a disappointment. Not only are they thin, but they also are very dirty with black, scuff marks and things all over the place and even oil stains. I don't know if I got a return use one or what but they were a disaster. Also, the instructions are terrible. I mean this should be fair symbol together, but instructions don't tell you what to do Really. Nothing is really clear and I hate the fact that when you are hammering it, if it even budges that it tends to chip and peel the paint. On another note, the paint was chipped in so many places and already peeled off. Also, the little hammer thing tightened the heads because they're not screwed on all the way. I am really disappointed and the fact that I even bought these and I am so tempted to just take them apart and put them back in the box and send them right back because they're a disaster. Also, these are very small compared to the heavy duty rack that I had before this and I'm not sure that this is even worth it. ... show more

I have put together a few sets of shelves like these in the past, so i have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Assembly is pretty simple, however, the metal is flimsy on this set of shelves. If you use the included hammer and hit the beams hard enough for the pegs to drop down like they are supposed to, the hammer starts coming apart and the metal bends easily. They should meet my needs, but I am not convinced these shelves would hold up to much more than light use. I am also not convinced they will hold together if i ever try to move them. They should not be labeled heavy duty. The shelves are also crooked -- i counted holes between beams multiple times during assembly to make sure everything was level. After i realized the shelves were crooked i went through and counted the holes between shelves again a couple times to make sure I hadn't goofed. The counts still match on all 4 sides. Normally i don't like to leave bad reviews, but overall, I'm sorry to say I am not impressed. You get what you pay for, I suppose! ... show more

These shelves are great. I suggest getting a rubber mallet. It comes with a little one. It’s very basic to put together and figure out. The only thing is it takes some strong banging on the bars for every keyhole it fits into, so be prepared to “bang” it about 40 times with all your might (I am a 180 pound woman in my 40’s).
