  • Very Good Drill for the price
This review is for the Vevor 1550W 10 Speed Variable, 2" Max Bit, Mag Drill. I bought this drill for helping out with pins and bushings on my backhoe, which will be mostly horizontal drilling. I have only received the drill a week ago, and trying everything out, it will work great. The annular cutter drilled a perfect hole, and when I put the drill chuck on with a 1/2" drill bit, it spun perfectly. The drill takes the 3/4" Weldon shank annular bits. My only complaint is that I didn't have this drill last winter when I rebuilt pins and bushings, this would have saved me a lot of hard work and time. Things I seen on Vevor reviews was - able to start drill before the magnet was engaged, drill not spinning true. Mabe Vevor made some upgrades, because the one I pruchased - the motor will not run until the magnet is engaged and it spins perfectly, annular bits and drill chuck. ... show more

  • Product review.
Bought a 5/8 annular cutter with it so I could make sure it works. It cut a beautiful hole in 3/8 plate, plenty of power. The variable speed control works great. I'll buy bits as I need them so I can afford the highest quality. It's a good buy.

  • Well made! Better than I expected
My observation was the maker improved quality even branding their products which encouraged me to buy. The body is metal, it works well and is heavy as it should be. I was surprised as it is much better than I expected. The speed is variable and the magnet is strong. It came with the portabroca. Im glad I waited before purchasing the portabroca. This saved me about $36. The drill came with several accessories. I am very pleased. I am excited to go make some holes! Not a paid review! Me sorprendió, mucho mejor de lo esperaba, si gradua la velocidad y su magneto esta muy fuerte. ... show more

  • Very capable, but do not leave the magnet on.
Style: W/ 1.57'' 11pcs
Pictures: 2 views of my drill press conversion. One elevated and rotated to show depth stop. One in typical position. Two showing the range of drill height adjustment. One of the carbide hole-cutter I used. One to remind me to use hearing protection. Things to know: Like a drill press this model has only forward rotation. A single speed. No motor brake. Much louder than a typical drill press. Full magnetic clamping requires about a half inch of magnetic metal under the whole shoe. My setup is good with a quarter inch of steel under the 7/8th of its shoe. Be advised that clamping to thin metal will not be as effective. Vibration is mentioned as a potential hazard, but I noticed no vibration when boring the two holes in the cast iron foot of my converted drill press, which I did execute very slowly with no cutting oil. Pulses are mentioned in the manual, but I think they mean rotations. There is no hammer drill action going on here. Access to the drill power button is not ideal with the elevation wheel in the way. Better if that switch traded places with the magnet power button. In a panic stop situation, you might not want to turn off the magnet by accident while the motor continues to run. In a related observation, the magnet is not supposed to stay on longer than two or three hours. Do not forget to power-off before going to bed. Therefore, I'm thinking about running my rigged drill press through a separate power switch that also controls a light. This might be OK if I secure a harness to the drill, as is recommended in other use situations. The drill motor would be turned on or off as needed. The magnet would be turned off when I turn off the light at the end of the job. That being the most important thing. If I still feel insecure, I'll run the power through a one-hour timer. If I have to reset it, that's no big deal. I do like that I can very quickly and easily remove this device and take it somewhere else. I'm not reporting on the water-cooled drilling feature or the hole cutters. I have carbide hole saws that are better than high speed steel for my purposes. The chuck that is included is perfectly fine. I did have to adjust the friction on the rack and pinion elivation mechanism. It would not stay up when running. This required quite a few minutes of trial and error, but I got it, eventually. This is not the sort of tool everyone needs, but if you do, this has what seems like basic pro-level capability at a much lower cost. For me a good deal, but I cannot speak for anyone who might use it very frequently. After all, I'm just trying to avoid buying a new shop drill press. Good hunting! ... show more

  • Good value. Not top of the line by any means, but good for the price.
Style: W/ 1.57'' 11pcs
At the current price of $248 this is a good deal if you need a magnetic drill. Its features, especially the switches and lack of speed control, are its biggest limits so far with the little time I have used it. The magnet works well, although the manual says not to use it for more than three hours or it will overheat. I suspect the time to overheat may be significantly affected by ambient temperatures. It comes with metric core bits. They cut well but I will have to order some SAE sized bits for most of my work. The manual states to not use this on steel less than 13 mm. I have used it on 1/4" steel and it seemed to be okay. I am sure it holds tighter on thicker steel. The quality of the cutters seems to be good. The chuck is so so quality but works. As mentioned above, the controls are not the best. The location of them can make them hard to reach while the drill is in use. The lack of speed control limits the uses of this drill. I do believe the manufacturer also makes a model with a speed control. If I needed one of these drills for frequent use I would likely look at a better, and more expensive, model. For my occasional use this should work fine. Of course there is no telling how this will hold up over time. For now though I think it is a good value. ... show more

  • Solid Performance, Some Quirks
Style: W/ 1.57'' 11pcs
Overall I’ll start by saying this thing delivers some great performance with few issues. It operates like most basic drill presses, with the notable change up of using a powerful magnet to lock itself in place instead of a base. In practice this may be a little limiting in surface to attach to, but also has the advantage of making this extremely stable once locked in. The room for improvement isn’t really in performance so much as refinement. The motor is a bit louder than others out there, and the controls are not easily accessed at all times unlike others that put the on/off prominently on the front directly in front of the operator. Overall this is a very solid 4 star product and if half stars were allowed this would be a 4.5. ... show more
