I have been looking for a machine like this for years. I got quotes for other ones for thousands of dollars and they were just too big for home use. But this little 44 lb/day machine works great! It does require a drain, which is unfortunate. I just use a small bucket that I empty about once a week. It’s too bad that it doesn’t recycle this water like other machines, but it isn’t a big deal to me. The quality of ice is top notch. I have had the Opal nugget ice machine, Mueller nugget ice machine and other less popular brands as well. This one tops them for production, ice quality, performance and I have high hopes in its reliability. It is a bit noisy, if you were to have it in your home kitchen. They are more so made for commercial or restaurants. But they are very cost effective, and I highly recommend them if you don’t mind a little noise and have a drain and water supply. I installed an inline filter on my supply line to reduce buildup in the machine and improve taste. ... show more

Received product and very easily installed… it worked for one batch of ice then quit working had to work with company for over a week to get refund… but the ice was perfect I wish it would have kept working… major dislike was how loud it is… it is not recommended for home use unless in an enclosed pantry ... show more

    • A Solid Performer for Flaked Ice

We have had a number (4) of commercial ice machines and once we had flaked machines, were set on that type. Flake machines use a cylinder evaporator that freezes the ice around its inside wall. An auger scrapes this ice upward and deposits into a storage bin. The water level in the cylinder is set by a small tank with a float valve connected to the cylinder. When the storage bin is full the system shuts off until either the ice melts or it is consumed for use. There are a lot of moving parts, but these are built to last for years. It is important to filter as much as the mineral content out of the supply water as possible. It requires a water supply line and a drain since the stored ice melts away, this prevents the ice from clumping, but you can always harvest some and put it in a freezer. I chose this unit for its size, capacity and power consumption. Since they can run a lot, for home this was a consideration. Hands down this unit is the best match for us, making plenty for our needs. The unit is built solidly, worked as advertised, had a good manual and looks like parts would be easily available. It was a good price, probably the best for a new flake machine. I have had it about 6 weeks now and it is very impressive! Someone had asked what the noise level was and I just got around to measuring it and it comes in at 60 dB standing 4 feet in from of it, very quiet. Compared to other ice machines I've owned this is the quietest by far! ... show more

Love the ice this machine makes, but I will say the door could use some improvement, you have to open very gently, or it does get off tract and very difficult to put back in place. Also, I agree with other reviews I read, the machine is large and is loud. Mine is in the garage so it is fine but also it drains quite a bit daily possibly due to heat also this time of year, But the ice is perfect. Love it! ... show more

First, my background. I'm a 40 year ice machine specialist and Sr. technician. Ive been telling myself for decades that I was going to buy myself a FLAKED ice maker....and FINALLY did after much research. Having dealt primarily with commercial grade equipment and how LOUD it CAN be....this little baby is NO EXCEPTION. it IS loud especially for being so small. Most of it is fan noise. If you are not used to a noisy kitchen....ie, foodservice, restaurants, then maybe you should skip this particular ice maker. The unit itself produces ice mostly likely above the rated amount and makes a very adequate product. The ice storage area is supposed to be well insulated to reduce meltage, THIS one is NOT, and as such has a LOT of melting drainage. make sure you have an adequate drainage system for it. Additionally, the machine runs almost continuously because of the excess meltage, constantly working to keep the bin full. Dont get me wrong....was this machine worth the purchase? Absolutely! but there are additional issues most people are not aware of with is FLAKED or Sno cone ice maker. Here are just a coulple of things of importance. Premium Water Filtration: Unlike Ice cube makers which throw out the non-used or waste water with each batch, a Ice flaker uses nearly 100% of the water feed to make ice, impurities and all....bad water = bad ice and worse wear and tear on mechanical parts. Cleaning: ALL ice makers should have the water circuit disassembled and manually cleaned / sanitized evey 6 months of use minimum. From the documentation that was provided, I saw No such instruction. If you decide to call a professional like myself in to clean your machine, it could easily cost you more than the machine itself. All Ice makers make a FOOD Product, and should be treated as fairly sterile environment. Note: I'm attaching a couple of before and after pictures of an ice machine that had a normal routine cleaning. This is NOT the same machine but just an example of why cleaning is necessary. We bought this as a Christmas gift for my mother whose old commercial size machine died after 30 yrs. She loves it, it works great, is quiet, easy to set up and makes the shaved ice she loves.
