  • Compact and well organized - good value
Style: With Repair Tool Set
This kit is chock full of items. Some of the items a bit on the cheap side, but wholly adequate for one-time use with the cheapest items and long-term/multiple use for many of the tools. For the price, it would certainly make a good gift to a new driver or even a friend that needs to be a bit better prepared for an unforeseen event while in their vehicle. My favorite thing about this kit is actually the bag the whole thing is packed in. It has a great shape, appears sturdy, and is attractive (black with an orange reflective stripe). Here is a breakdown of the contents and my opinion of each item: 1. Jumper cables. I haven't used them, so I can't vouch for how functional they are. However, they appear of decent quality. I didn't notice any defects that would give me cause for concern. 2. Tow rope. I would not recommend this tow rope unless absolutely desperate. A tow rope is a very high-stress item and only a very high-quality tow rope should ever be used. If this was all I had in a life or death situation, I'd give it a shot, but I'd be very careful. Even then, I'd immediately discard it after one use. It's not that it appears defective in any way. It's just that you usually need something better for a potentially dangerous activity. 3. "Emergency Kit" There is a little black bag within the kit. It was a bit puzzling at first, but I'm sure you could make use of some of these items if things were extremely bad, lol. There are q-tips, safety pins, and a few other odds and ends. 4. Tool Kit. Decent. Not bad at all for the price of this kit. It has a hammer, plyers, adjustable wrench, screwdrivers, hex wrenches, and much more. 5. "Snow shovel" (that's what they call it). It's really an ice scraper for a windshield, etc. It appears pretty good. I haven't used it, however, so I don't know how many uses it would hold up to. 6. Folding shovel. This is a cool tool. It seems very sturdy and has several functions. It can be a regular trowel-type shovel, an ice pick, snow shovel, and more. Quite a good tool! 7. Safety hammer. IMPORTANT NOTE: Remove this item immediately AND place it in your glove box or center console, etc. If you need this tool in an emergency, you won't be able to access it in your trunk. This is an excellent tool that every car should have in a readily accessible location. It is a bright orange (highly visible) mini-hammer and razorblade. It is designed to let you RAPIDLY cut off your seatbelt (if stuck) and quickly shatter a side window (if the door won't open) in a fire or water (e.g. lake) emergency. 8. Reflective warning triangle. Good quality, compact and just my keep someone from rear-ending your parked car in a breakdown on the shoulder of the road. You place these about 50 to 100 yards behind your car if you are changing your tire or something else. It allows other drivers to see you much sooner and avoid hitting you. I was skeptical at first if it would stand up and remain standing if there were a strong breeze, but I test it and it seemed very stable and functional despite being so lightweight. 9. Safety vest. I tried it on and it fit me, but barely (I'm 5'10 and 185 lbs). It won't fit a larger person. If you're working on the side of the road, I do recommend putting this on. You may look "stupid" but you'll likely live to the next day (to look smart! lol). 10. Gloves. My first impression was that these cheap cotton gloves would be pretty worthless. However, I tried them on and found that they would be wholly adequate for a one-time use emergency such as changing a tire. They will keep your hands cleaner, provide some basic protection and they have little rubber grippy material dots on the palms on the inside of the fingers that just might happen to help hold on to things in the rain or if your hands are just generally slippery. 11. Poncho. Pretty straightforward. If it's raining and you have nothing else, it will work (one time...it's disposable). 12. Flashlight. Very cheap feeling and not good compared to a *real* flashlight, but if you have nothing else, it will make light. The good: it doesn't need batteries as you "pump" it yourself to charge the little capacitor in it. This means it will likely still function even if you never use it for 10+ years. The bad? Well, even after you "charge" it by getting a super hand workout pumping it for several minutes, the light is quite dim and will not last long. Save this item for the Zombie-Apocolypse. Your grandkids and their grandkids might need it. With the above caveats in mind, I recommend this kit if you don't have something better and don't want to spend a significant sum. ... show more

  • Decent assortment and seems to be built well enough. Perfect for Commuting Teens
Style: With Repair Tool Set
I bought one of these kits for my daughter's car as she is living on the college campus over an hour away. Gives me a little peace of mind knowing that she has the essentials with her in case she needs them. I will admit that I probably worried a little too much and ended up buying a regular first aid kit, spare folding snow shovel and a Green Slime air compressor/tire sealer combo just to be on the safe side. And just to make sure she was over prepared, I bought her a AAA membership. Anyway, on to this specific kit. Everything was packaged really well, and everything seems to be decent quality. We took everything out so I could explain to her what they are used for and to make sure nothing was damaged or missing. Everything was there, in new condition and it all went back in the bag easily. The jumper cables were thicker than what came OEM with my Atlas so that was a nice surprise. Overall, really happy with the purchase and even happier she hasn't been in a situation where she actually needed to use it. This does come with a nice window punch/seatbelt cutter combo so I would highly recommend that you take that out of the bag and put it in the center console or door storage pocket so that it's within easy reach in case of a water or overturn incident. Especially if you keep the bag itself in the backseat or trunk of the vehicle. If you find yourself upside down in water and need to cut the belt or break the window, you probably won't be able to reach the bag or access the trunk. I did like the quality and usefulness of this kit enough that I bought a second for my wife's car. It's a great kit to have and I would definitely recommend this particular one after the hours of reviews I went through and seeing it for myself. I'm confident it will have everything possibly needed for a roadside emergency. If you're like me though and buying it for your teen, I would definitely recommend looking into getting a supplemental full 1st aid kit and compressor/sealer combo for even more peace of mind. ... show more

My niece just got her license. I bought this for her so she could have it in her trunk. Hopefully it never gets used, but if it needs to be used, it’s a solid kit.
