  • Outstanding Cat Perch, Looks Great, Good Value
Color: Walnut
Was intrigued with this lovely cat perch, read every review, added it to my wishlist, 2 days later price dropped to 87 and I had to go for it. Arrived today and I just finished putting it together. IT LOOKS GREAT! And I'm 64, female and partially disabled - this isn't hard to put together! Took me approx 30 mins. The hardest part is unpacking it all, comes very well packaged. Just relax, go slow and enjoy it. Some tips: 1) Put aside the directions and just watch the video on YouTube. 2) Keep in mind that on the 1st step, you're putting the box together upside down! 3) Get your multi-head screwdriver out - it's much easier than the included tool for a lot of it. 4) Go slow, hand-tighten until you're sure things are properly aligned, then tighten with the tool. My unit doesn't wobble at all, it's very snug and secure. Regarding the so-called horrible smell, there's no horrible smell. There is a slight odor of the natural sisal rope (plant fiber) used to wrap the legs. That's it. I'm sensitive to everything under the sun and this doesn't bother me or my kitty at all, and it will prob dissipate in the next few days anyhow. You could put it on your porch or in your garage a few days if the smell of natural sisal gets to you. Overall, this furniture is even better quality than expected. Love that it can be wiped down and the cushions washed or even replaced. (btw, cushions aren't pieces of carpet, but super plush & cushy) Love the modern look. Much easier to put together than expected. Taller and sturdier than expected. My Maine Coon mix has circled it a few times and rubbed on it, must try kitty treats ;) Sandy Claws came early for him today =D (He's 13.5 lbs and fits great in the box) FOLLOW UP 12/9/16 Some things that helped get my cat loving this even more: 1. He liked it much better on carpeting than in the primo place by window that had no carpet. It's more stable and I think he likes being in the living room overseeing us, rather than further away. He is now the master of all he surveys. 2. Like another commenter suggested, I removed the metal bracket and dangly rope toy. He now has more clearance to jump up and down from the top level now, and no worries to me about him getting hurt on that metal piece. He was pretty blah about the balls anyhow, he'd rather be eviscerating a stuffed rat toy. 3. I removed the little round sisal mat from the 2nd level on top of the box and replaced it with a 2nd mat just like the one on the first level. This gives him a much more secure surface for bouncing up and down from the top level, more area for his claws to grip, Vesper V-Plush, Replacement Part for V-High Base (52045) Scratching Pad, 11.2" x 15.2", Walnutand he now has one more place for snuggles there, too. I got it for 15.99 & free shipping last week, I added the link so you can see which size it is. Added photo of mods below. Still love this cat furniture, VERY happy we got it, big success with kitty. ... show more

  • Large, sturdy, and roomy
Color: Walnut
Sturdy and holds up to my Chonk cats. Nice large base, no wobbling even when my 19.2 big fella ( who is not obese per vet he is a tall, large cat) launches himself at this behemoth. The smaller cats appreciate the nook- it can fit 2 medium cats easily. The detachable pads nice, easy to shake out to clean. Once they actually acknowledge the 3-ball toy it won’t last long. But that’s fine, this cat tree is had a cool mid-century modern aesthetic which beats a carpeted cat tree any day in my book. Assembly not a breeze, and friend who did it for me highly skilled - we blame the directions. This is a great looking cat tree worth what I paid. I have cats of my own, and constantly foster for a local Rescue organization, have good frame of reference. Will update in 3-4 months hopefully it keeps holding up. Right now it’s a win for me and my cats. ... show more

  • Lovely and Functional Piece of Furniture Despite Image Inaccuracies
Color: Walnut
I have a large three and half yard but unfortunately I also live on a relatively busy highway currently, so my cat doesn't get to go outside (with supervision) much. So I figured he'd enjoy the V-High base with vertical space and height and all. First of all the tree is really nice and the rope wrapped around the poles smell really nice. I read reviews saying they had to air out their house, but in my case I didn't have to. The only part with a vaguely bad smell was the circular mat on top of the box (I sniffed it to see what material it was lol), but that's only if you get your nose right up on it. It does wobble a bit if my cat jumps on it rather vigorously but is steady overall. He'd really have to try to knock it over and he's a pretty big cat (not fat, just really big, around 11 pounds). He also fits just right curled up in the box and fits fine on the top platform, so if you have a smaller cat you'll be fine in that area. The picture is a little misleading however, because it's mirrored and the first platform is not long enough for cats to jump on it and into the box. Your cat(s) will have to jump directly in from the floor. My cat does not seem to care, but it's kind of an unfortunate design choice that was not accurately reflected in the provided image. Also, the rope color is a little more green tinted than it is in the photo and when you twist them in, they can scrape off the finish of the wood (you can't see it because it's covered up by the bottom of the pole so I'm not that beat up about it lol). I took off a star for those inaccuracies. Honestly makes me not want to buy from this company again unless I see the product IRL, because who knows what other discrepancies there are with the picture and product online? Assembly: Instructions were a little confusing but doable. There's videos on Youtube that show someone putting together the regular V-base and assembly is pretty much the same for both in the beginning. You might want to have someone help you as you do it especially if you're like me and could barely lift the box lol! It's also easier to put in the screws when you have another set of hands to hold the bronze screws from moving (you'll see). All you need is the allen wrench that's included and you're good to go. It's nothing to be intimidated about, took me about 40 minutes (mostly pondering the instructions). All of the parts needed were present, so no problems with that. Overall, me and my cat really do enjoy it and it was worth the purchase but the picture inaccuracies kinda pissed me off (really need to get that together), thus the four stars. It's a pretty piece of furniture and not ugly like most cat trees are (that gray, dingy, stained off-white color...or brown or zebra, almost equally as bad lol). My 9yro sister also enjoys it, she's currently using it as a Littlest Pet Shop house with cardboard ovens, couches, and everything while my cat bats them off hahaha. Not sure I'd recommend to a friend, but it definitely works me and my cat! This review sounds a bit too negative, so I wanted to include that it is a good product and better than what you'll find most places. My cat enjoys looking out the window, sleeping, and playing on this tree (actually uses the rope toy). We have a lot of fun with it overall and I'm still not over how pretty it is, thanks for saving me from super expensive gross carpet by making this product available! ... show more

  • finally a stylish cat tree!
Color: Walnut
assembly this was a breeze- i didnt have to watch the video mentioned in other reviews, but im glad its there because im sure its more helpful than the wordless ikea-style instructions that were included. i put it together in less than an hour and it looks so nice! i have 2 rambunctious cats that love to climb everything. the first cat tree i got from petco was covered in carpet and despite my best efforts to clean it and keep it sturdy, the carpet got dingy and the structure fell apart in a little over a year. this tree is made so much bettet than that. they're rough on this one too, but when i go to tighten the poles, they're already still tight and holding up really well. the removable pads are an amazing feature. the velcro holds them in place even when the cats pull on it as they climb and play. i was concerned the cube wouldnt be large enough for our bigger cat (he's probably about 12 lbs and really long) but its way bigger than i expected and he fits in it comfortably. my favorite features: its not covered in carpet, and that doesnt stop them from climbing on it. its insanely easy to assemble and holds together well. you could even set it up a little differently than instructed if you wanted to. my only complaint: the hanging toy you can attach to the top (and by all means, it is totally optional) is connected with a long piece of metal that sticks out like 4 inches. i know they're smart and agile but it makes me a little nervous. i've left it on since i got it about a month ago but i may remove it because they dont play with it. * this would never deter me from buying this again- i still highly recommend this product- the price is perfect and it is really well made. i read in some other reviews that you can buy replacement pads, which is really nice! ... show more

  • Functional and Attractive Design
Color: Walnut
I was a little afraid to spend $109 on a cat tree but it was worth it! I got V-High Base. Our kittens love it and it looks great! I love the modern design with the clean lines and wood. I did not want one of those typical cat trees that are covered in carpet because I hate how they look. This cat tree is so much better than those! It's sleek and has all the things that the cats want. Places to scratch, a high perch, a toy, and a covered place for more privacy. The tree is a pretty good height. It's higher than the couches which allows them to have a birds eye view when we're sitting and short enough for me to still pet them when they're on the top (I'm only 5'2"). The top is big enough for both of them to lay together which you can see in the picture. Though, as they get bigger that might change since they're still kittens. It is also pretty sturdy. It does move a little when they jump onto it but it does not phase them at all. It may also move a little more since I have it on carpet and not on tile or wood. It might be more stable if you have it on a smooth surface. I trust that it will hold up even as they get bigger. The wood also creaks a little when they are moving on it but it's nothing that bothers me. I really like removable pads. They are made better than I was expecting and seem like they will last a while as long as you take care of them. One of my cats has long hair and she does not seem to get hot or uncomfortable since she will sleep on the top for a few hours. It wasn't too hard to put it together. I did it by myself and I actually had a little fun doing it just because I couldn't wait to see the finished product and let my cats get on it. The instructions weren't the greatest (which seems to be the case for every put it together yourself product) but I figured it out. The only part that was a little more complicated was the box but everything else you could probably figure out yourself even without instructions. Overall, it may seem expensive but it is worth it to have something that both my cats and I like! ... show more

  • I absolutely love the design
Color: Walnut
*UPDATE* I'm adding another star because my punk cats finally decided to love this cat tree as much as I love its style. It's still wobbly, but my Maine Coon fits fine on the top perch, and he and the other cat wrestle on it without breaking anything or knocking anything over. 10/10 would buy again. I needed a cat tree so my biggest cat (a 20 pound Maine Coon) wouldn't scratch up my new couch, and so all 3 cats would have a place to lay since the new couch doesn't really have a back. I absolutely loved the design of this one. I was a little worried because of all the reviews saying it was a nightmare to put together. It absolutely was NOT hard to assemble. I did it myself in a little more than an hour. I realized after I'd gotten it all together that the hole for the box was upside down. I easily unscrewed the scratching post attached to the box, swung it around, took the top of the box off and fixed the panel. All the pieces came in the box and nothing was damaged. It is a little wobbly on the box side, and screwing the tallest scratching post pieces together took a little finessing. So far, only one of the cats is interested in it, and not the one I intended it for. My only complaint is the structural integrity: it seems like the scratching posts supporting the box could be a little bigger to better support it. Also, while the top platform is large enough to fit my biggest cat, it's too wobbly to for him to be comfortable on it (which other reviews said similar things, but I was in denial). I'll see if I can shore it up so he'll use it and stop breaking my heart. The cat in the picture is almost as long as the Maine Coon, but not as heavy, and he fits in the box. ... show more

  • Sturdy construction and great design. Good value for your money
Color: Walnut
I looked at a lot of cat condos and thought I wanted a really high one, but this is a good height( thinking to add wall shelves later) for my little house. The design fits perfectly with the MCM scheme. Sturdy pieces that fit together the way they are suppose to! Be sure to look at directions carefully before assembly for placement of each piece. I found the instructions helpful, but small to see and I had to refer back many times. Very easy to put together in about 45 minutes. Not sure why the base to this condo is hinged. What I hated about putting this together was the little wrench/Phillips screw driver. Way to small for my hands. As you can see in one picture when assembling the box, I had to continually adjust the wrench to tighten the screws inside the box. I guess you could skip the white opening for the box. They slide in grooves along the side pieces. I like it for contrast. Gingersnap had no problems getting in. When I used the Phillips side, it kept falling off. That is my only big complaint with assembly. I probably could have found one that worked better from other projects. Love the removable pads to clean. They feel almost like memory foam. My second complaint is, I wish that it came with a safety wall strap. My newly adopted kittiah was very excited while I was putting together and insisted on doing quality control checks. Currently she is relaxing on the top with a great rear window view of the backyard with a big smile on her face. Not sure she will be coming down anytime soon. Well worth the money in my view for quality, design, and construction. She is able to reach each level without any obstruction of other levels. She has already been playing with the attached toy. So happy I got this one! Gingersnap seal of approval!🐾 ... show more

  • Not Bad Overall; Some Quality Issues. Top needs a way to keep cats from rolling off.
Color: Walnut
We got this tree during the summer sale for $70. It ticked a lot of boxes for us - right height, not too expensive, not hideous-looking, doesn't take up a ton of floorspace (we don't have a lot of square footage!). We have three cats, and two of them are always in need of access to more high spaces. The assembly wasn't difficult; there is even an online video showing all the steps if you search YT. The memory foam pads are soft and comfortable. The item was pretty stable (a little wobble, but not a ton), as long as the surface beneath it is level (e.g. not half-on-rug, half-on-floor). We placed this in a sunny window with a great view for our cats of the birds, squirrels, and sometimes even foxes and deer. Our cats really love the highest perch. The box and lower perch unfortunately don't get much action. They also liked the toy that attaches to the top perch, but after about 6 weeks, we found the toy on the floor. It attaches with two screws into a custom-cut groove -- one screw had sheered off at the head and the other had yanked right out of the MDF. Thankfully the pad mostly covers the ugly damage left behind, but it's not fixable. It also poses safety concerns - it seems like a cat could be injured (or a screw could be swallowed), but we're lucky that ours were OK. It would make more sense for the toy to attach to the underside of something rather than on a piece of metal that juts out. That piece made me nervous from the start. What if a sleeping cat were to roll on it? What if they stand on it - can it take their weight? We weren't there to witness what happened, but clearly my worry was not misplaced. I wish the top platform was more like a basket or something with raised sides to help support cats when they sleep, so they can't easily roll off it. I also wish it was a little larger, as they can't really splay out or stretch up there either. The lower padded level is even smaller - only a kitten could maybe sleep there. And the box bed, which I really hoped they would like, isn't super convenient for them to jump up into and out of as there is a lip to each of the entrances and no accessible ledge -- our cats can't easily see the bottom or whether the way is clear to jump inside (which is instinctively what they need to feel safe jumping in), so have mostly ignored it. The scratching posts are used a ton by one of our cats, who likes it a lot, but the material shreds off and does make a bit of a mess. I did reach out to Amazon, but they had no way of contacting the manufacturer and could not provide a partial refund or return. So I'll have to reach out to Vesper and hope there's something they can do. ... show more
