Description

The Vater brand was officially established in November of 1991, but the Vater family history with drumsticks started decades earlier, in the basement of Boston's legendary Jack's drum Shop. There, Alan and Ron's grandfather jack Adams, hand turned drumsticks for the drummers like Buddy rich as early as 1956. In the early to mid 1980's, the Vater Brothers began producing private- label drumsticks alongside sticks for Vic Firth and Zildjian. A few years of this LED to the brothers deciding to move their business to a new factory in Holbrook mA. Over the past decade, the Vater family and product line has expanded greatly, introducing innovative products such as the splash stick and acoustic, and welcoming renowned drummers like Chad Smith, Stewart Copeland, and Josh freeze. At Vater, our goal is simple. . . To produce the very best drumsticks and percussion accessories in the world.

I love the feel of these sticks I’ve experimented with about every stick out there and these are the best feeling and most durable. Vater is definitely the go to company for now on not just because of their amazing sticks, but because they actually price sticks reasonably which really helps a lot these days with how expensive everything gets. I’ve tried the SD1 general from Vic firth and they have nothing on these sticks the 3A fatback is the best. It also really makes your cymbals sing.     • One of the better rock drum sticks out there

Before I discovered customized drum sticks I struggled to find a pair that was exactly what I wanted and that felt right in every way. I went through a decade of buying hundreds of pairs and these were one of the best ones I ever found. First of all Vater makes their sticks in a way that doesn't waste as much wood as the other big name companies often do, and the way these sticks felt in my hand were winners. They are thick enough so that you don't get used to playing faster than you can really go on those thin sticks, but they aren't so big as to make you feel like you are gonna tire out your arms faster. They are also a tiny tiny bit shorter in length that typical which gives you more control over where you hit and how loud. Also, the round tip of the stick produces a nice rebound and gets a nice beefy sound of the drums when you hit em. They are also pretty nicely symmetrically balanced from top to bottom which felt better when I play with them and it makes flipping sticks and doing tricks MUCH easier because unlike other sticks, these aren't top or bottom heavy. I don't know any drummer that doesn't like these sticks so if you're still searching for a good fit and don't want to go the custom route yet, give these a try :) Oh one more thing...don't get these sticks if you play jazz...the bead is too big to produce a soft defined sound like you need in a swing beat. For any other genre, especially rock, these sticks are great. ... show more

I switched over to Vater a few years ago, and now this 3A is the only stick I use for live rock shows. Nice feel, grip and control. Rounded tip gives clean definition on ride and high hats, while the weight allows me to have a clean snap on the snare. Quality wood, and very little breakage of sticks even with heavy play. I'm a huge fan of these sticks. The Vater Fatback 3As are very durable, and I've had pairs last months. I sometimes use electrical tape on the bottom halves to save my hands a little, but it's not necessary and often the sticks feel better plain. They pack a punch, and every time I hit a drum I feel the power of the sticks. They're not so bulky that I can't do fast fills around the set, yet they're still strong sticks. If you play frequently and are a very hard-hitting drummer that still likes to have some mobility on the set, as I tend to be, these are a great pair of sticks. Work great in concert band for snare drum as well. I'd highly recommend them, they're worth your money for how long they'll last. ... show more
