I've been suffering from issues related to a disk on L5 pinching my sciatic nerve. Sitting for long periods makes the problem worse so my doctor recommended I get a sit/stand work station of some kind. Next I went to facilities where I work to find that if you work in an office, they'll provide a unit - complete with ergo eval, etc. Great until I found out that home office workers (i.e. me) don't receive this benefit. Next I spoke with one of our ergo experts (outside consultant) and he specifically recommended this Varidesk model. His opinion is that it is one of the best for the money. Here's why I'm a big fan: 1. Well packed. Came out of the box easily with no damage. 2. No assembly! Just remove packing material and put it on your work surface. 3. Very sturdy and well designed. The spring mechanism makes adjusting from sitting to standing simple and smooth. I often have a cup of hot coffee sitting on the stand when I adjust it - no worry of spilling because it moves so smoothly. 4. Lot's of positions. The unit easily 'freezes' at many heights. I'm 6'1" and it is plenty tall with more room to go up. 5. More work space! I compared this unit to the Ergotron WorkFit-S 33-341-200. My wife's company uses the Ergotron so I was able to go in after hours and play with one. While the Ergotron is a high-quality unit and seems to serve the purpose well, it pretty much has only enough work space to hold your keyboard and mouse. But this Varidesk model has room for a notebook (great for taking notes during calls), keyboard, mouse, and tons of additional room to spare - hence my hot coffee. The Ergotron also requires that you clamp it to the front of your desk. Simple enough. But for me that meant limitation in the front to back positioning. I like that the Varidesk can be placed anywhere on the desktop, allowing flexibility in front to back positioning. Varidesk is a winner. One of my favorite purchases in a while. BTW, my back feels WAY better these days. :-)

I did not want to buy a whole new desk to start standing, so I hesitantly gave this a try. I am pleasantly surprised/thrilled with how sturdy it is, and that even though it is so sturdy it is also very easy to maneuver. I like the different height options as well. I wasn't expecting it to hang over my 30" desk since it says it was 30 inches wide, but it does. The "feet" are solidly on my desk, but the keyboard tray hangs over a few inches. At first I was a little ticked, but then I sat down and used it. Of course it needs to hang over a bit and it makes complete sense and comfort. This is the perfect standing solution for a sitting desk, and even when you are sitting it's a great "desk". I like the extra room available for things like my phone, calculator, glasses, whatever to be right there even when I'm standing.

I was using one of the hacked up Ikea LACK tables as a standing desk at work and through 3 months I found out I needed to really balance sitting and standing. Standing has fixed issues for me like tight/sore hips but introduced a sore knee. Enter...the Varidesk. I really was not sure about purchasing this as it was a lot more expensive than my Ikea hack job but what a huge step up. With this desk I comfortably fit my two 19" wide screen monitors and I have no issues with the keyboard and mouse area. I use a regular full size keyboard and while it does not sit directly in the middle of the keyboard tray area I do not need it to. The mouse area fits my regular size mouse pad fine and that's all i ever need. Raising and lowering the Varidesk is super easy. Pull in each easy to use handle on the sides and pull up or push down. Like a manual car seat it has certain points where it locks in so beware of that. At full extension there is definitely some wobble but I won't use mine that high. People who are over say 5'10" might not like it (I am 5'8" and this is is just right at about 3/4 extension) but that is hard for me to say. All I can say if I'm not sure I'd like using this at full extension all the time. Build quality is top notch and you cannot beat just opening a box and being able to use a product. This is the single plus and, again, it's more than enough space for my two 19" widescreen monitors. If you don't mind the bases sitting off the edge a little bit (that's how my Ikea desk was) you could probably fit two larger monitors if you're careful raising/lowering it or depening on their base design. Moving forward with this product I will probably split the day 50/50 between sitting and standing and feel that was well worth the money.

I purchased one of these about two years ago for my work office. Now that I'm working mostly from home (COVID-19), I wanted one for my home desk, also. Works great, easy to use. I can raise or lower it in a couple seconds, with modest effort. Wide enough for a full-sized keyboard and mouse pad, plus enough space for a small pad and pencil to the left, on the lower level. This size is not suited to two monitors on the upper level, so if you are using two monitors, or need other space-eating accessories to the sides of your monitor, I suggest you look at a wider model. Very easy to raise and lower. It is quite deep and so not good if you have a shallow work surface - confirm the measurements. It also comes up and out as one raises it, so there cannot be too much above your work surface, such as shelves or a monitor bracket. No provision for cable management (they do include a couple velcro bands, but nothing that anchors the cables to the platform). I sometimes have an issue with cables being pulled out, or speakers being pulled off the back of the shelf, etc. when I raise the platform. This is a minor issue and one for which I've improvised some solutions, but it is my one minor gripe in an otherwise great product. As I said, I liked the first one enough to buy it again for home.
