  • Great! (The second time around)
I have what's supposed to be an omnidirectional antenna already, but it is so obviously not! I live in the country where it means I can pick up stations from multiple relays from 50-150 miles away. So I need something that does the trick. This Vansky antenna rotates beautifully 360 degrees...at least the second one I got does. After a lengthy email discussion with a Vansky rep who used English as a second language (sort of), I finally forewent all of my queries and settled for asking her to confirm that it was not functioning properly, to which she replied that it wasn't and I should exchange it. Fortunately, Amazon was very quick with the exchange and my new one functions perfectly. The first one I had did not turn more than a third of the way and it skipped/bumped as it turned. This new one is smooth and fully functioning so I expect yours will be too. I get 35 channels with some exceptional visual quality! However... 1) It should be noted that I still have my old omnidirectional antenna hooked up because I wanted to point each antenna in two separate directions and get the most channels I could. I used a splitter to bring both signals into my TV. Why didn't I just get another omnidirectional one instead of this Vansky? Well, I don't believe omnidirectional is what they say it is, given my recent experience, and the Vansky is the highest rated antenna by a number of rural living websites, so I problem solved my omnidirectional needs with two antennas. 2) I have three stations that used to come in normally with my old antenna that now come in with a picture smaller than the screen size. It's like a miniature perfectly proportioned image that could fill the screen nicely but instead decides to dwell within the tiny center of my screen. Whatever, though. I don't watch those channels anyway...? Note on the remote: There are two buttons on the remote. They both do exactly the same thing. When I asked the Vansky rep why, she said that one button was redundant in case the other one failed. Hmmm...that seems silly. But there it is nonetheless. When pressing the button, the antenna will turn in one direction until you stop pressing. If you press again immediately, it will continue in that same direction unil you stop pressing, allowing you to pinpoint the sweet spot for your reception. If you want to go the other direction, press the button (either one will do apparently) and hold it. The antenna will proceed in the same direction until it reaches the 360 pinnacle then it will go the other direction. There is no way to go back and forth without rotating the full 360 first. By not exceeding the 360 point and continuing rotation in one direction for eternity, the antenna's cable will never get tangled. But I'm sure there's someone out there who could figure out a way if they really tried. Oh! And fortunately for us, there's a label on the remote surrounding the light in the corner. It reads: "Instruction Light." Its really important to label the instruction light, but I don't know why yet. There is also a label between the buttons that reads "switch." But the only switching that's happening is your thumb going back and forth between redundant functions. Finally, your remote must be able to make visual contact with the power supply box. When one of the redundant buttons is pressed, a green light will show up on the box to indicate that something is happening. You'll want to have eyes on the antenna as well as be within range of the power box for adjusting the antenna. Good luck with that if you're single and don't have any friends. ... show more

  • Perfect reception, really light weight.
I live 85 miles outside of NY city (NY’ers who use this type of device would normally aim it towards the Empire State Building for broadcasts. ) and I get perfect reception with this device. Infact We get about 75 Channels perfect quality. You just have to know which direction to aim the Antenna towards. Infact, the reception was so good we actually took down our huge antenna that we had bought this to replace. Obviously with these devices the higher you place them the better the reception so our house has it on a pole next to the top of our chimney. We had tested the antenna ground level just to see what type of reception we can get and we received about 40-45 channels (incase anyone has a one story house and were worried sbout getting reception that low.) so we most likely could use this on a one story. The antenna itself is really light weight, feels like cheap plastic and litterally weighs next to nothing which made me worried when I first unboxed it. The assembly was very easy to do, comes with ‘English’ written instructions and there are Youtube videos of people putting this thing together if you prefer visual instructions rather than reading them. I was surprised at the reception quality on such a light piece of equipment. It comes with a motor and a remote control so you can remotely aim your antenna, but honestly if you look up in which direction to aim it you don’t really need to fiddle around once you got that part down, like I said, 75 Channels perfect HD quality with out that stutter and lag 85 miles outside of city limits. It claims that it ranges to 150 miles but I couldn’t tell you if that were true or not, but I read a few other reviews and people who live further away from me get about the same amount of channels with perfect reception, for me at the range I am at it works perfectly. It is 4k ready for in the future when HD becomes a thing of the past and they start broadcasting in 4k but that’s probably a few years off so it’s future proof if anyone cares about that for their tech. I recommend making sure you fasten the unit at your home’s highest point for maximum reception and as I have said it’s super light weight so fasten it sturdy and well what ever you feel is necessary to weather a heady storm so the unit doesn’t fly away. Overall, for the low price I paid for it, I am not disappointed at all with this purchase. Only one tiny gripe, not about the unit itself but the cable it comes with, the length was perfect about a 50 ft cable out the box, but BE very Careful pulling it, it will snap easily if you tug on it too hard. Obviously you can rectify this issue easily if that happens by going to Home Depot and buying another one, but it is more brittle than other tv cables I’ve bought for the home in the past. Other than that the unit works perfectly. There is a RED light on the Unit, that MUST be glowing in order for the unit to receive signal. If it isn’t glowing make sure you’ve secured everything in the right spot. Easy to put together, easy to install, perfect reception and no issues that I’ve found cept for how light weight the unit is but that’s my personal gripe on it. ... show more
