Description

Developed in 1983 for jazz and popular music, the JAVA reed incorporates a thicker tip and a more flexible palette than the Traditional reed which allows the reed to vibrate over a larger surface area with maximum elasticity. This type of vertebral column gives the musician much greater playing flexibility, as the resultant elasticity zone is very large. The palette is the zone where the air waves are propagated with the greatest range. From the tip, the waves are absorbed further in the JAVA reed.

These reeds are the softest u can get from vandoren. They are a size down from the red ones, so if the red ones are too hard for you, I recommend these. Though be careful of not jumping too far of a mouthpiece size. I tried play these from a yamaha 5c .48 inches to a size 6 mouthpiece 6.2 and it didn't work too well for me. These are not only softer than the reds but a bit more brighter in sound response. Good for jazz mouthpieces for easier sound production and bright response ... show more

I've used Vandoren Java reeds for many (20 or more) years and they continue to be one of my favorite reeds on soprano/alto/tenor saxes. Clear and FAT sound and they last through a lot of playing! Also...out of a box or 5 reeds...I almost find 5 that are playable and 3-4 that are REALLY GOOD! They have a brighter sound, so would not recommend them for classical sax...but for all the other music styles...they are perfect! ... show more

The one reed I've tried from the box worked quite well right out of the package. Unfortunately I needed the reed right away and was unable to give it my usual break in procedure so it only lasted the one gig before it lost its resiliency.
