  • Great classical sound
Style: TL3 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
After many years of not playing, I needed a decent "standard" mouthpiece for playing classical music with to get back into the habit. I've found this mouthpiece to work great for that purpose and the sound is really good. The one Amazon shipped appeared brand new and untested. Quality reminds me exactly of the pieces vandoren made back in the late 90s. I suspect I'll be happy to keep playing this mp for the next decade or two. Tip opening on the TL3 is perfect for me. I am pairing it with a Vandoren ebonite lc28p ligature with good results. ... show more

  • Great mouth piece

If you play jazz… this is your next mouth piece. The sound is great.

  • Versatile mouthpiece for tenor
Style: TL3 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
I've been using an AL3 on my alto for years and love it, so decided to try the TL3 on my tenor. Initially I was surprised that it had a brighter sound than I expected vs. my AL3. I've been experimenting with different reeds and ligatures and found I can create a wide range from warmer & darker to brighter. Would recommend for anyone looking for a mouthpiece with a lot of versatility! ... show more

  • A pleasant sound and excellent range
Style: TL5 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
An excellent sound for full concert band semi classical. Intonation of my tenor sax was improved.

  • Great Mouthpiece!
Style: TL4 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
I had been playing on a Vandoren OptimumTL3 and wanted to try a slightly more open tip. The TL4, even though it's not significantly more open than the TL3, allows for slightly more airflow, making it easier to hit notes at the bottom end, like low B and Bb. Also, the sound (to my ear) is moderately darker. Other gear: Rovner Versa lig., Legere 2.0 reed, Yamaha YTS-23 sax. ... show more

  • A staple in all of my sax cases
Style: TL3 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
I recently played my Tenor Sax in a concert with my local community band and needed a new mouthpiece for it as the only one I had was heavily geared toward jazz. I have an Optimum mouthpiece for soprano and alto which I find good for concert repertoire, so I bought the tenor version. It works just as I hoped it would. It's free-blowing, and the intonation I find is very controllable. Like I said, I find that the Optimum mouthpieces are geared more toward classical/concert band type music. It's not the best mouthpiece for jazz or rock as I find it doesn't project as well as some other pieces. However, the tone from this piece blends well and leans to the dark end of the spectrum. Overall, lived up to my expectations. ... show more

  • Change of heart
Style: TL3 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
I really do not like evaluating subjective things like this. This might be a great mouthpiece for some people. I have only been playing for a year with no training from a teacher because there are none available where I am. At least not now. I could play with this mouthpiece but was hoping for more and better from it. But since we humans are all different, what is good for one may not be good for another. I have to change my evaluation of this mouthpiece to be fair. I tried a new reed and ligature on this mouthpiece and it played great. Full and rich lows and nice dynamic highs. I should have done much more experimenting than I did when I wrote my original evaluation. Now change my previous rating from a 3 to a 5! ... show more

  • Nice for beginner
Style: TL3 Pattern: Saxophone Mouthpiece
I'm going with this over the Vandoren V5 T25 series. While I really loved the sound of the V5, I just didnt have the "air" for it. Even with a softer reed. I'm a total beginner btw. The sound of this isn't quite like the V5, but still nice. I moved up from a Yamaha 5c due to the Yamaha having a terrible cut on the facing / table, making it impossible to use. Oh I'm sure it was just a bad one out of many good ones, but also I just don't see the point in putting a $25 dollar mouthpiece on an expensive sax. Yes even a beginner can tell the difference. If your having trouble with consistent sound out of your hunk of metal, maybe its not you? It could very well be that cheap mouthpiece your using! It was "weak link" for me anyways. Oh I still have a very long road ahead, but the mouthpiece issue is behind me now! ... show more
