If you're looking at v-flat reviews then you probably already know how valuable it's going to be in your studio. Maybe you've tried using DIY solutions, or you've rented time at a studio that had massive v-flats that you couldn't imagine fitting in a smaller space, much less transporting. The real beauty of these V-Flat World foldable v-flats is how versatile they are and how easily they pack away. They are big enough that you can fold them out and have great fill (or negative fill) for your shooting space, but small enough that you can fold them away again and regain the use of your space. When folded down they're in that category of seeming awkwardly large to throw around, but yet really quite light for their size. I'm not a big guy and these are no problem at all really. The folded size is good to fit in your average hatchback or mid-size trunk too. I have a feeling if I'd tried one of those DIY videos you've probably seen on youtube, I'd have spent a lot of time making something heavier, bulkier, less evenly surfaced, and probably less durable on top of it all. Well worth the money to get the better outcome.

I've used V-Flat World's V-Flats for a few years now and I have nothing but great things to say about them. As someone who works out of a small studio, the foldable design of these v-flats makes it easy to store them away when not in use, and not take up too much space. Additionally, the practical use of v-flats is an absolute must for those who do studio photography and are shaping light on a professional level.

I've used the vflat on many indoor studio photoshoots now. I bought it about 10 months ago. It's been very useful for bouncing, absorbing, flagging light, etc. It's large, lightweight, and easy to set up. For my studio at home I can't leave it setup all the time because it's just too big so I am setting it up for each shoot. As a background it's decent. However, I prefer not to use it for a background (except headshots) because the tape shows up if you don't light it correctly. When I bought it I searched for alternatives because it's so expensive. There are many others but the v-flat world panel looked like the most well built. Possibly they are the most well built. That said, at this point the surface of the v-flat is pulling off the foam board where the velcro attaches. While this doesn't currently impact the performance of the v-flat for my uses I do worry that the velcro and the surface will tear away soon. The panels are also warping a bit. Anyway, just thought I'd put this out there because these are in my mind expensive and I'd hoped they would be a bit more durable.

I don’t have any complaints about the quality of the product. It is well made and easy to set up and break down. It also comes with a bag for storing it to keep it clean. My first problem was the shipping. It ships in the manufacturer packaging, and it is not packaged to handle normal shipping wear and tear. The packaging tape was completely ripped off on mine and the v flat had taken several impacts on the corners, due to the packaging being wide open. I saw many reviews on here saying the same thing, I was hoping they would have fixed this. Very disappointing. The other minor annoyance is that because it breaks down, you have to try to align everything when setting up. Easier said than done. If you don’t align things, then you will likely have an inconsistent background when taking pictures that you will need to fix in post processing. It also has a tape seam when putting together, that will stand out in photos if you use it as a background. You will also need to edit this out on post processing. In the end, I’m using it mostly as a reflection surface. It works well for that and it is what I originally bought it for. It is subpar for a background. You are better off buying a roll of paper.

I knew that V flats could be useful but held back for two reasons. The DIY build process seemed to have a lot of steps for someone who isn't very gifted in the craft department. And storage of large pieces of gator board posed a problem. Being able to get pre made flats which folded addressed both problems so I gave it a try. I only got these yesterday but I already know they are great. First, they are absolutely dead simple to use. Just pull them out of the box, fold them up, attach them with the velcro, and they're ready to go (a Youtube video made them look more complex than they are). Second, they are incredibly light. I didn't expect them to be heavy but they were far lighter than I expected. This is important because it means they are super portable and maneuverable. Piece of cake to get them up, move them where you want them, or change the configuration. When you're finished you can just fold them, put them in the bag, and store them (mine went under the stairs). In fact my only criticism -- and it's minor -- is the bag could be an inch wider so it would be easier to get them in (wasn't a huge problem as is) and that the handles would be shorter. The handles work fine but they extend the bag a foot or so, making it impossible for anyone less than eight feet tall to easily walk when holding the handles (I'm over six feet and it's not close). Of course these are total quibbles. The bag even with two is so light I can easily lift it over my head, and it's not a problem getting them back into the bag (no doubt some experience will make it easier). Just some suggestions for making the bag a wee deeper and having the handles attach on the side. If you do lighting, especially in a home studio but pretty much anywhere including on location (folded down they should fit in most vehicles), these are a great buy and well worth the price. These don't cost a lot more than two good standard light stands, a support bar, and two rolls of seamless paper, but they are far more versatile. If you're on the fence go ahead and order. I think you'll be very happy with these. A great and super easy to use product.
