  • Good Value
The borescope worked as advertised and is very reasonably priced. Image quality is quite good if you get close to the correct distance from the object (up to maybe 4 inches). However, be aware that you need to get an Android app from Play Store to operate the camera. Not a major issue, but the available apps are of very mixed quality. I found one that worked well, but I had to pay an additional $9 to get the high resolution version of the app. I couldn't find a free version that worked very well (also, be aware that some apps might share your information). I suppose the app issue would apply to other borescopes out there. For the price, this one does the trick. A more expensive one might have things like variable focus, zoom, and a moveable camera lens (other than manually moving the cable). ... show more

  • Great addition to my 3D printer.
I picked this up to add as an extruder nozzle camera on my 3D printer. It connects to my Raspberry Pi running OctoPrint with no issue. The It's been great so far. Love the shots I get. The camera quality is not the best, but how much can you expect from such a small camera and for this price point. The only reason I dropped one star is because, before I installed it on my printer, I attempted to use it as it is advertised and if you have recent Android device, you (at least I couldn't) will not get an app that supports this guy. I had to pull out an old back up device running Android 7.1.1 to get it working in any of the apps I could find. My S22 Ultra just would not work with any of the apps. But fo rmy purpose, it's worked great! ... show more

  • Basic Borescope/Endoscope - "Just Works" in Ubuntu Linux 22.04
I plugged it in, then opened VLC and used the menu option to open a capture device. This was super easy for me since my Ubuntu 22.04 media center has no other v4l2 devices attached. If you use it with a laptop, open VLC before plugging in the camera and find out what your internal camera /dev/video* device(s) are ahead of time. Opening the capture device immediately shows a 640x480 image of medium/low quality. It sends the image in MJPEG format, so don't go expecting amazing imagery. ffplay also works, as does Cheese. lsusb identified this as: Bus 001 Device 009: ID 13d3:784b IMC Networks XHC Camera Although they say you can get higher resolutions, I'm not seeing that listed in the v4l2-ctl output. Only 640x480 is listed, unless I'm missing something. But for less than $20 this gives you a camera that is good for close-up images of small items as the focus seems to be better if what you're looking at is within 2-4 inches of the camera. Further out, it starts to get fuzzier. I have not tried this in low light situations yet. My particular need is to see inside a wall, so I will be testing the lights in there. I am not expecting much as the LEDs are bright white, but I suspect they aren't bright enough to light more than a few inches away. Overall, I expect this is mainly designed to look at small things closely, The 16.4 ft. cable is nice and firm and easily bent into whatever shape you need. Not having used it much yet, I can't attest to its durability. I would guess that the conductor inside might break after being bent a few times too many. Since my need is short term, that isn't likely to matter. Hope this review helps some Linux based folks out there! ... show more

  • Needed to see a part number not easily accessible
I needed to see a part number on a unit which was not visible on the side of a unit. I tried a mirror, but could not get close enough to read the name plate. I found this unit which is compatible with a cell phone and my old tablet. The application was an easy download and I was surprised that it actually worked the first time I tried to use it. The brightness can be a little tricky to get right and the orientation of the camera is a bit hit or miss but it does the Job! Very happy with it. ... show more

  • Works well, well worth the price. A pretty handy gift to give.
Started up without a hitch, and did the job I needed it for. The depth of field is a little too far, the image got unfocused just at the distance I needed it to be clear. The cable is long enough to reach farther than you can control it, but I was able to get pretty darn far down my ductwork. Couldn't use it with my iOS phone, so can't comment on that feature. ... show more

  • Plugs into Windows 10 laptop no issues
Plug and Play with Windows 10. Just start the camera app and switch over from the default camera. Camera end has built-in LED. Brightness control part of the very long cable. With android devices the requirement is to download a app as descrived in the insturcions.

  • Nice tool to run wire in hard to access spaces
Love this setup, easy to use and was able to run wires through the crawl space easily enough. The light does not extend far enough, but I guess that is not its role as it must focus on the near and not the far objects.
