  • This encoder is quite impressive! This is the right one
TLDR; Encoder is easy to use, feature packed, reliable, well built and customer service is extremely helpful! I wouldn’t buy an encoder from any other brand going forward. Full review; I had purchased an HDMI encoder from another brand that was advertised to work with VLC. Spoiler alert it didn’t work with VLC player well at all! This uRay encoder is high quality and just works, very simple to use, it streams reliably and has every setting I could think of. Customer service is very responsive to questions and request for assistance. I was curious about the API this device uses and they were able to help me formulate an API call to change the setting I was looking to change. Most other AV companies don’t provide such a high-level of customer service and it’s so great that they provide awesome customer service like this. One thing to be aware of; so far I have only been able to get L-PCM 2 channel stereo audio working with the HDMI encoder. I’ll probably have to down-mix my Dolby 5.1 bitstream audio to 2 channel stereo, not a dealbreaker and I’m not taking off any stars for this since it’s easily fixable on my end and I have not even asked customer support about it yet. I’m sure they would go above and beyond to help anyway they can! All around a great product, great company and good people! ... show more

  • The cheapest and easiest way to stream to Youtube without a computer.
If you’re looking for a cheap and easy way to stream one camera to Youtube this is the device for you. You don’t need an expensive computer and external encoders. This little box does it all. Full disclosure: I was offered monetary incentive for a five star review. But despite the less than stellar documentation I still think it deserves a 5 star rating. I bought this encoder to stream church services to Youtube. The hardest part of the setup is getting the encoder connected to your internet network if your router’s IP address (the IPv4 Default Gateway) isn’t set to 192.168.1.1. If it isn’t you need to temporarily change your computer’s IP address so you can log into the encoder’s control panel. Once logged into the encoder it’s very simple to make the change. The recently updated manual and videos can help guide you through this process on Windows and Mac OS. I used a Canon VIXIA HF R800 camcorder to provide the video. Canon camcorders work well for this task because they can output clean HDMI video (no display indicators). You simply go into the menu of the camcorder and turn off “Output Onscreen Displays” and turn off “Power Saving Mode”. For audio you can use the 3.5mm jack on the encoder if you want to use external audio. Or you can use the audio from the camcorder’s microphone coming through the HDMI cable. ( FYI - the Canon camcorder also has an audio input jack so you can route external audio through it). Just make you set the Audio Input field in the control panel to the correct setting. "HDMI" setting means it's getting the audio from the camcorder. "ANALOG" means it's getting the audio from the 3.5mm jack on the encoder box. The manual does a decent job of going through all the options available through the control panel. settings I used for youtube Bitrate: 6000 Encoder size: 1920x1080 Bitrate control: VBR Audio sample rate: 48000 ( Youtube sounded awful if you use 44100) Audio bitrate 320000 If you need technical help you can get support using email, skype, or whatsapp. Tech support is based in China so it normally takes a day to get a response via email. I needed Tech support because the documentation was lacking. They were helpful but I still needed a technician to log into my computer using TeamViewer to set the DNS configuration in the encoder’s control panel For connecting to Youtube **Update 11-20-2020 Ever since Youtube removed the "Start Stream" button I've experienced an audio/video sync issue when you reuse a stream key. The stream will briefly be in sync and then the audio is ahead of the video. You can use a new stream key each time but that is inconvenient. Currently the only work I've found around is to manually disable/enable the ‘‘RTMP(S) /RTSP PUSH URL’’ field on the encoder box. **End update The DNS configuration. The documentation is incorrect. It says to enter the router gateway address in the fields for DNS1 and DNS2 . That does not apply for all networks. Mine was not configured this way. You need to check your network setting for IPv4 DNS Servers and enter those values. To connect to Youtube you need to enter the “Server URL” and the “Stream name / key” you get from Youtube into the ‘‘RTMP(S) /RTSP PUSH URL’’ field located in the control panel. It would have been much easier if they would have split this into two fields, but they make you combine both pieces of data into one long string. Just don’t forget to add an extra “/” character between the two pieces of data or it won’t work. In the manual there is a sample of what the string should look like. The encoder also allows you to add some basic texts or logos to the screen. The encoder will broadcast a test pattern when it doesn’t detect a video stream which is very helpful. For creating a simple stream this encoder works well with minimal equipment. The documentation is still a work in progress. I would like an explanation of all the options. Once you get the encoder on the network it’s pretty easy to use and configure. ... show more

  • Great personal streamer!
This product has exceed my expectations! I looked around for a similar product a few years ago and the prices were just too much for an HDMI version. Now there is this product which does an amazing job and then on top of it a price point that seriously can not be beat. I have also dealt with the company directly and have been getting timely replies back to my questions. There is a reason these have high ratings. They are earning them! My next purchase from them in the future will be this same model family but the 4k version and no doubt will be just as good as the one I have now! Thanks again Linda and crew! ... show more

  • Great Device, Excellent Value
I use this Uray HDMI Encoder to extend my cable throughout my house via cat 5 ethernet cable. My cable box is centrally located and controlled with a wi-fi remote control. I feed the hdmi from set top box to the encoder then from encoder to network switch where it is distributed around the house and decoded by any device with VLC player (**Samsung TVs do not offer VLC for some inconvenient reason). The picture quality seems perfect with 1080p @ 60fps. The lag is a very acceptable 1/2 second or so and the unit is not warm and sits around 6% CPU for this single stream operation. I have read reviews which complain about setting this unit up on the network but the instructions that come with it are very easy to follow. Maybe some more instructions on the settings could come in handy but a few quick google searches had me up and running in no time. I reached out to customer service with some issues but they turned out to be my problems with vlc and not the device. Linda was very responsive and helpful. All in all this is a great device for my purposes. Great picture, easy to use, excellent customer service and exceptional value. Highly recommended! ... show more
