I purchased these a few months ago from SlashCool. They kept my 30 gallon stock tanks ice free through the harshest part of winter, even with -20F temps and heavy snow falls. After a few months the units failed. One day when the temp is only a little below freezing my tank froze over. I contacted SlashCool and they immediately replaced the units. I bought this at the beginning of December so as to have it in hand to keep my goats’ water from freezing over since carrying 5 gallon jugs of water out to the barn is tedious. Mid January we started to see freezing temperatures and I put this thing to work. Right off I was skeptical since it had no indicator on it to tell the user if it is on or not. I set it into the 50 gallon basin and connected it to a gfci protected plug. It was working for a couple weeks, but this morning I woke up to a popped breaker for the outdoor lights. Tried to reset it and it just popped again. Unplugged everything on the circuit and it stayed on. Plugged things back in one by one, and as soon as I plugged in this item it popped again. Bear in mind that we are talking about 2 led porch lights, a smoker that was not in use, a small fan also not in use, and this pond heater. I checked for any visible damage, there is none. I ran the cord in such a way that the goats cant get to it, but for good measure checked to make 100% sure they didnt chew on the cord. There is none damage to that either. Tried it in a couple higher amp outlets i have in my workshop. Popped the breaker there too. Worked well for 2 weeks or so, but not reliable enough to justify the price.

We just purchased this tank heater after the last one was retired from corrosion after 3 years. Works great in the winter in our 50 gallon tank used for the backyard water feature. I believe it would have lasted much longer had I not left it in year round. The tripped GFI circuit led to the discovery of my mistake and the poor condition of the tank heater. I used to shut the water feature down in the winters before discovering this application. As a result the various birds went away. Not anymore!

Living in Minnesota we reached lows as bad as -50. This heater keeps my 110 gallon stock tank from freezing. My last heater was the same one and lasted me two years until my horse damaged the cord. Love this heater!
