I’ve long held onto my old craftsman drill which was in perfect shape but the NiCad battery had long ago died, so I was excited to finally revive it with this lithium pack. The batter came with a decent charge out of the box and worked flawlessly. Do note, that the lithium battery does take a different charge than the old NiCad batteries, so if you too are upgrading to lithium you will also want to go ahead and buy a charger. What I like is having a fairly reasonably priced battery pack to keep the ancient Craftsman drill and circular saw in the game and out of the e-waste stream for a few years (hopefully) longer. I had been helping these limp along with NiMH packs (slight upgrade compatible with the original NiCd charger), but modernizing to Lithium also brings a significant weight advantage. (Of course, then I had to shop for a "modern" Li-ion C3 charger.) The instruction (a note, really) which came with this pack along with the reasonable expectation that this should have come -partially- charged, and the all-red LED response to the button press (green is more typical/expected) caused me to attempt an inquiry: with replacement the only recourse. On a positive note, I was able to guess that, intentionally, this pack has red charge state lights and comes with near 100% charge level. The main negative for this unit is how difficult it is to mount onto either of my Craftsman tools. Their original packs slide on and latch effortlessly, and are easily removed. Not even close with this pack. Installation can be coerced with difficulty and force, but it's just barely possible to tug and rock and despair, and wrest this free --from either tool. (And it's not the retention latches causing this.) ... show more

    • Great replacement/spare battery for your aging C3 tools.
I'm heavily invested in the Craftsman C3 line of tools. . . I have most of the pieces made for it (I think). Batteries are getting hard to come by, but these replacements are up-to-task. They work well and charge in my Craftsman 4-port charger.

    • A good clone Craftsman 19.2v C3 battery
Wow, battery technology has come a long way since I got my original Craftsman 19.2v C3 lithium batteries. This is lithium, so make sure your Craftsman charger does both NiCad and lithium. This new battery was nearly fully charge upon arrival and no issues at all on my old C3 multicharger. Comparing this battery to my old, still functioning OEM lithium batteries, the build quality on this new one is good and on par with my Craftsman OEM battery, except this one has a charge gauge on it, but is otherwise identical but a milimeter taller than the OEM. Also, when used in my old C3 caulk gun, it runs at the same speed (the new NiCad clone I have runs the motor a lot faster, but the gun was made for NiCad). This is where the similarites end. Looking at this battery's rating sticker, it is rated at 3Ah/54Wh, but that is at 18v, not 19.2, so the 19.2v Ah rating is 2.8Ah. Looking at the OEM battery I have, it lists the rating as 19.2 @24Wh, which is about 1.25Ah. This new battery packs more than double the capacity in the same size case, and the new one weights a little less at 391g vs the OEM at 429g, and it has a gauge. I definitely recommend this battery to replace any old C3 ones you have. ... show more

Lithium-ion batteries have totally transformed portable power tools. They have high capacity, deliver high current, and don’t suffer from charge memory issues. I have a Craftsman 315.DD2101 drill that came with a 28Wh (equivalent to 1.45Ah) C3 lithium-ion battery that has served me well for several years. On occasion, I find that I still need a backup battery, especially for long jobs, and this product seemed to be a direct replacement for the original battery so I thought I would try it out. The new battery was shipped in a stout cardboard box. It was unbranded and no instructions were supplied. It fitted my drill perfectly and seemed to work as expected. The original Craftsman battery charger supplied with the drill worked well with the new battery and the LEDs indicating the charge status appeared to be working. The battery stopped charging when a voltage of about 20V was reached (4V for each of the 5 cells), so there’s overcharge protection. During use, the drill turned itself off once the voltage reached about 15V (3V for each cell) so over-discharge protection was also present. I read the very long and detailed review by another reviewer complaining about the apparent lack of certifications marked on the battery. I looked at the original Craftsman C3 battery and that had no certifications marked on that battery either - so is the Craftsman battery very dangerous, too? Further investigation online revealed that vendors of lithium-based batteries must first complete a detailed application form to get an ASIN (product number) from Amazon before they can offer these batteries for sale (see document entitled “Requirements for lithium batteries and products powered by lithium batteries” downloadable from the Amazon SellerCentral and other websites). One of the conditions for Amazon approval is that the batteries must be pretested according to UN 38.2 and the test results submitted to Amazon. So, these batteries should be in compliance with at least some safety standards even though they are not marked as such. I further decided to look inside this battery pack (I have a set of the needed Torx security bits) to get a feel for the design, manufacture, and materials used in this product. I’m not an electrical engineer but the board layout and complexity looked similar to that used in the Craftsman C3 battery. The main circuit board had an RU label on it indicating that the board had been approved as a UL’s Recognized Component – again indicating some recognition of safety requirements. I’ve included some photos to compare the innards of the new battery against the Craftsman C3. The final observation I have is that although the battery purports to have a 56Wh (3.0Ah) capacity, I found that it could only deliver about 1.5Ah (measured with a DC programmable load device at a fixed current of 1.0A). It was rather disappointing to only get 50% of the claimed capacity which is why I’ve dinged it a rating star. Otherwise, the product looks good and works well with my Craftsman drill. ... show more

This is a direct replacement battery for my Craftsman power tools that charged, fit, and lasted as long or longer as the original ones did. It is nice to see replacement parts that are of the same quality at a much lower price than Sears that is no longer around.
