  • The table clamp makes a great portable vise on a jobsite
At first I thought great, now I'll have a vise and not limited to the space in my small workshop for longer materials. I could temporarily mount this to a table outside for unlimited space. After it arrived it dawned on me this could be even better used as portable on any jobsite instead of dragging materials over to the truck mounted vise. This isn't huge and weighs just over 10lbs, and with the clamp just over 13lbs. TABLE CLAMP The clamp without the plastic protective pad has an opening of 2-1/4" enough to fit over two 2x4's. If you use the plastic protective pad it opens to 2-3/16" plenty on a workshop tabletop. You can always bolt it down for a more permanent installation using the included bolts. ROUND MATERIALS The jaws for round materials are good for OD, (outside diameter), of 5/8" to 1-5/8", anything smaller the "V" notch jaws don't go down that tight unless you remove the flat vise gripper plates, anything larger and the material curvature is outside of the "V notched jaws. FLAT VISE PLATES Max opening on the flat vise plates is 4-1/4" leaving enough threads on the screw driv still in the vise base. The plates have a diamond pattern to resist slipping, but they aren't aggressive teeth and less likely to marr the material. SCREW DRIVE The screw drive moves fairly smooth out of the box, but I used some dry lubricant on that and now it's even better. ANVILS The flat anvil is closer to the center of the base and could handle some heavier blows, while the round anvil is more of a shelf and I wouldn't be confident using a sledge on it, just some necessary taps with a hammer. The curved anvil is something none of our large vises have and it's definitely a nice feature and time saver when trying to get a nice curved bend. It's a handy little thing, whether you use it occasionally at home and don't want a vise permanently mounted on your workbench or if you need the portability at a job site. Hopefully this was helpful, Thank you! ... show more

  • Dual Purpose Vise
Lets start by saying that this is a solid performing vise, with a good metal construction and smooth operation that demonstrates solid craftsmanship. When it comes to mounting, this struggles slightly, mostly due to the varied nature of the "clamp" option. In bolt configuration, where the vice is bolted to a work bench via the four mounting points, this vice is a solid 5-star product. In clamp configuration though, this vice actually proved unusable for me. My workbench that requires clamps is a garage rack (gorilla rack, or similar) has a thicker edge and thus requires a deeper clamp option than this offers. I was unable to get the screw to clamp down far enough to contact the underside of the table, meaning this didn't function. If you use this kind of configuration as I know many folks do, you may find you aren't able to make this a removable clamp vise and you will need to drill and bolt through the OSB topper. ... show more

  • Great for working in multiple locations
The media could not be loaded. This is a well built heavy duty vice and a lot of thought went into the design. I got this vice to solve a number of issues I frequently run into. First off I needed a vice that I could mount where I'm working not just in a stationary spot on my fixed in place work bench. So the "C" clamp that the vice mounts to solves this problem enabling me to clamp the vice to any work table. Second I frequently find that I need a vice hold items while I cut them and my current vice, which is mounted parallel to and at the same level as the bench top, makes it impossible to cut without potentially damaging the workbench. This device solves that problem because it can be rotated to angle perpendicular to the table so that the end of the item being cut is out in front of the table providing clearance for cutting. Another great feature is the way the clamping jaws are flat on one half and rounded on the other so that cylindrical items can be clamped firmly, which is great for when I'm working with pipes. Finally, I often find myself trying to find a hard surface to use to strike a piece a metal that needs straightening and I don't want to use my workbench surface possibly creating dents in the surface. This vice has a mini anvil that solves this issue for small projects. I found that the vice jaws open and close smoothly and are able to hold items very tightly. The vice rotation function is easy to use but does not allow a full 360 degrees of rotation, only 270 degrees. The anti rust coating on the vice looks good though I did find a small section on the "C" clamp that was not coated and has already begun to rust. I will put a little anti rust paint on it and that should prevent further rusting. Overall a great well built, medium size vice with many useful features. ... show more

  • When an iron blockhead met this cute C clamp....
For the longest time I had to make do with mounting our current vise/anvil to a separate board, and then clamping that to a work table as I didn’t want to drill into the surface of our only workbench. This vice with built-in clamp from Gohner’s (Gottinfurt) neatly provides a solution as an elegant workaround to alleviate the need to do that. The quality seems to be in line with its suggested price point as the machining is better than expected. The main USP with this unit has to be the integrated C clamp and on that front this unit also scores well. Time will tell if this will hold up as well as our US-made vintage Dunlap but as I’m sure it won’t since things aren’t made as well as they used to be, even lasting 30% as long is almost a win at this point. A full complement of hardware of adequate quality with longer and shorter bolts is included. In terms of clamping strength, so far, so good. With a bit of lithium grease positioned in strategic spots, it was placed into service and has been operationally steady for over a week now. Overall, a choice worthy of recommendation for those looking for a vise with clamp integration. ... show more
