While the cargo shorts are cheap, it appears to be a bit TOO cheap, as the materials used appears to be thin and unsuitable for even normal wear. I own several pairs of cargo and regular shorts, and this one was the only one that already developed one hole around each cargo pocket area. And I don't even load the cargo pockets that much! The design of pockets is also rather weird. The big pocket is big enough, and I rather like velcro enclosures... Until they snag in the dryer. The outside small pocket... What is that for? They interfere with the big pocket flaps. They don't fit anything useful for me. It's almost as if they added it just for kicks. I will need a different pair soon. ... show more

These shorts have a flaw in the design. I really liked them online and when they showed up they fit great. I bought (2) khaki colored, (1) gray, and (1) black all at the same time. After 3-4 wears the front cargo pockets separate from the short and tear holes in the front of every pair. Must be a design flaw because I've had it happen with all of them pair with less than 6 wears of normal walking and driving...I wasn't hiking or working or anything active at all, very diss appointed. ... show more

    • Slightly loose fit, but true to size

I initially bought these a size larger after reading some reviews (I'm slightly larger than a 34 in dress pants, and was worried that the size 34 shorts would be too tight). The pants are usable with the belt, but fit much better when I later ordered them in my usual size (slightly loose, and only requiring a little bit of tightening in the belt). Overall, I like these. They have deep slash pockets and good sized cargo pockets (albeit with velcro, rather than buttons). The material is also nice and thick and looks like it will last for a while. While I ultimately found I'm not a big fan of the belted style, as it's just one more step in getting the pants on or off, it's hard to complain about something that was literally written in the product title. Also this is more of a small inconvenience, and I still wear these shorts regularly. Oh, and because they're still a bit of a loose fit, going beltless means there's a good chance that if I'm carrying something in both hands for a long enough distance, I'd have to start adjusting my walking stance to try and coax the pants to ride back up just enough to not end up around my ankles. But I just use the pants with the belt, cinch it in a bit, and avoid the unpleasant sight of people trying to claw their own eyes out. Are you 50 years old? Have you been looking to replace the cargo shorts you've been wearing since your 21-year-old was a baby? These are the shorts you want. Give the included belt to your more stylish son or daughter and wear the belt you've had since you grew a waist-size. (The loops in the shorts are big enough for your CCW belt.) These shorts have plenty of (Velcro-closed) pocket space for all the usual "Dad" stuff that you get laughed at for - until you save the day. I just got them a few days ago but they are comfortable and appear to be fairly tough and durable. I'll do a follow-up review in 15 years to let you know how they worked out. ... show more

I have been a big fan of these particular shorts ever since I discovered them in Costco many years ago. I'm so happy I was able to find them on Amazon (not going to Costco in these Covid times). What I like about these shorts is that they are really comfortable, practical, very well designed and look good. The main pockets (not the side or back velcro cargo pockets) are deep - something that is not the norm with many pairs of shorts and a requirement for me as it's easy for your valuables to slip out of shallow / unsecured pockets. Also the side and back pockets are great for stuff you want to secure because you can velcro them shut. All in all I love them and hope that they will continue to be manufactured by UNIONBAY. ... show more

Fantastic brand , got first pair years ago and still going strong so decided to get another two pairs in different colors. Casual but smart and love the belt that removes. On the generous size waist wise so tend to fit low on waist but look great and super comfortable. Superb value.

Love these cargo shorts because the quality, look and fit are great! I have 3 pairs or the army green and one dark blue and have no complaints. I wear a size 34 waist and that’s what I got. You don’t need to go a size up or down, the fit is perfect. Great looking shorts for the spring and summer months. My husband has worn this type of cargo shorts and stone color for years. Thank goodness Union Bay is a consistent choice. I wish they would have this color in the longer cargo pant. They are very comfortable.
